Nielsen has expanded its measurement capabilities to include Amazon Prime Video within its SVOD Content Ratings solution. “This is a significant milestone for Nielsen, especially considering the upcoming high-profile streaming service launches,” said Brian Fuhrer, SVP Product Leadership, Nielsen. “We think the addition of Amazon Prime Video will allow rights owners an added ability to understand both the size, as well as the composition, of their streaming audiences relative to other platforms or programs.” Nielsen, which also measures Netflix, counts streams taking place in the US via TVs.

Fox Corp. reached a new retrans deal with Charter Communications covering Fox stations as well its cable news and sports nets that appears to have been unusually amicable. “We appreciate Charter’s professional and collaborative approach throughout this process, and we look forward to expanding our partnership in the days ahead,” said Michael Biard, President of Operations and Distribution at Fox. Tom Montemagno, EVP, programming acquisition for Charter, was equally complimentary. “This agreement allows continued access to all of the Fox programming for our customers and Fox viewers, but it will also amplify our mutual efforts to address piracy and abusive password sharing issues. We appreciate Fox’s desire to further collaborate as the video landscape continues to evolve.”

Also addressing piracy issues are Comcast and Viacom, which have joined the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment, a coalition dedicated to protecting the legal market for content and reducing piracy. Viacom’s Paramount Pictures and Comcast’s NBCUniversal are already members of the group.

Up to 60% of search query results returned by the likes of Google, Bing, Baidu and Yandex lead consumers to websites that sell fake goods, according to research from Incopro that looked at pharmaceutical, automotive, children’s products, white goods and safety equipment. “Google appears to be exploiting a loophole in the law which means that search engines are not obliged to remove links to websites displaying items that infringe intellectual property rights or trademarks,” said the report.

Google is calling foul on Democratic candidate Tulsi Gabbard’s lawsuit over a brief suspension of her Google Ads account. While Gabbard claims Google violated her First Amendment rights by suspending her account for several hours on June 28, Google says, “Any suggestion that Google was attempting to abridge plaintiff’s speech by briefly suspending its ads account for a few hours in order to protect plaintiff from potential fraud defies logic. But plaintiff’s claim faces a fatal threshold problem: Google is a private company, not a state actor, and it is not bound by these constitutional limitations on the power of the government.” Google is asking a judge to either dismiss the lawsuit or transfer it to a different location.

Microsoft bought Canadian startup Mover, provider of cloud file migration, to help make it easier for customers to move to the cloud. “Mover supports migration from over a dozen cloud service providers – including Box, Dropbox, Egnyte, and Google Drive – into OneDrive and SharePoint, enabling seamless file collaboration across Microsoft 365 apps and services, including the Office apps and Microsoft Teams,” wrote Jeff Tepper, CVP Office, SharePoint and OneDrive, in a blog post.
