NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

 
Multi-channel network MiTu and Maker Studios announced a partnership to create content for brands that want to reach U.S. Hispanic millennials online. Maker will work with MiTu’s Hispanic talent to produce “culturally relevant” programming that will be short-form and meant for English and Spanish-speaking audiences. MiTu’s networks pull in 55 million subscribers across its channels, and 470 million views per month. Spanish media company Televisa made a similar deal with MiTu in August. MiTu investors include The Chernin Group, Series B and others.
 
Discovery Communications
and Liberty Global finalized a deal to acquire content creator and distributor All3Media. The two companies initially made an investment in All3Media in May, and will continue to operate its 19 production companies across Europe and the U.S. All3Media CEO Garah Ramzan Golant will step down; current COO Jane Turton has been promoted to Managing Director during the transition.
 
Digital tech industry experts David Beck (former SVP/GM of Social Media at Univision), Jesse Redniss (former SVP of Digital at USA Network) and Gary Vaynerchuk (CEO of Vayner Media) formed BRaVe Ventures. “The entertainment industry is challenged with how to engage consumers at this critical tipping point,” Vaynerchuk said. “Jesse and David are two executives who were part of a rare ‘first-movers club,’ setting the competitive bar in this digital evolution…by joining forces, we’ve formed the perfect team and model to help executives, networks and brands get past these challenges in a dynamic and confusing space.” Clients include Mashwork/Canvs.TV, Watchwith, Spredfast, GLOW and more. BRaVe will consult on social TV, second screen, multi screen, interactive story creation and other digital elements.
 
AT+T rolled out an initial test of a package featuring Amazon Prime, HBO, broadband and broadcast networks for $39 a month. Variety reports AT+T did not disclose the roster of cable channels offered; the lineup will debut for U-verse internet customers in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston and San Francisco. A year of Amazon Prime is usually $99 per year in the U.S., which includes free shipping of Amazon products. The deal will end Dec. 13, 2014. Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Verizon have also been testing out low-priced bundles that include similar deals, with the exception of Amazon Prime.

AOL set premiere dates for its fall lineup, including the second season of #CandidlyNicole (Oct. 9), Zoe Saldana’s My Hero (Oct. 24), Laugh Lessons with Kevin Nealon (Oct. 6) and Tiffany Shlain’s The Future Starts Here on Oct. 23. Previously announced series True Trans with Laura Jane Grace bows Oct. 10 in a ten-ep season. AOL has yet to dish details on That’s Racist with actor and comedian Mike Epps and the docuseries Inspired, from NewForm, the digital studio. AOL’s first TV-length original series Connected – a show that follows five cast members recording their lives on personal cameras – is still in the works.
 
Vevo announced a slate of 100 new episodes of new programming this fall, starting with series Super Fan Showdown, You + Me and Bush. "This is our biggest season of originals to date,” Senior Vice President of Content and Programming Doug McVehil said in a blog post yesterday. Most recently, Vevo debuted animated series A.K.A, up-and-coming artists series Vevo DSCVR and the Fuze-sponsored Day Off With. Shows Lyric Lines, Guess The Video and other original series return with more episodes within the next few months.
 
Telemundo partnered with Blippar to host an integrated viewer engagement campaign for its reality show YO Soy El Artista and its primetime series Senora Acero and Los Miserables. Through the Blippar app, Telemundo fans can interact with exclusive content about the shows and create selfies to share through social networks.

AD PLATFORMS
 

The Exchange Lab launched a new automated programmatic platform called Proteus. “Proteus is modeled on the financial trading platforms used by banks and is a combination of the best of Bloomberg and FX,” CEO and co-founder James Aitken said. “It evolved from the need to deliver to our clients unprecedented access to the entire digital media marketplace.” Additionally, The Exchange Lab announced an integration with marketing software and analytics platform Turn. TEL’s clients will use Turn’s targeting abilities and inventory, mostly in Asia and Europe.

Simulmedia and Nielsen signed a development agreement to research “long tail” TV network measurement, to capture audience activity that goes unmeasured on niche cable nets. “We have found valuable blocks of audiences watching programs that may be under the radar of many network TV buyers,” said Simulmedia CEO Dave Morgan. “This research will surface both the value of these networks and their audiences to brands.”
