PROGRAMMING
Scripps Networks Interactive is out to reach millennial foodies, whether they watch TV or not. The company, which owns Food Network and Cooking Channel, has created a new multiplatform digital media brand geared toward adults aged 21-35. Called Genius Kitchen, the new initiative will consist of short-form programming, along with licensed content that’s repurposed from Cooking Channel and Food Network programming. Genus Kitchen’s videos will also be integrated with a database of over 500,000 recipes from Food.com. (Scripps ultimately plans to phase out Food.com itself.) Genius Kitchen kicked off yesterday with an ad-supported website, GeniusKitchen.com. Over 150 hours of video will follow in October, available on mobile apps and a number of connected TV devices. Genius Kitchen’s content is being produced by Scripps Lifestyle Studios, the company’s digital production unit.
BRAND INSIDER
Craig Ferguson is coming to the digital space – and he’s leaving traditional ads behind. He’ll star in Couple Thinkers, an unscripted, six-episode show that will run on YouTube and other digital platforms in in 70 different countries. In the series, the former Late Late Show host and real-life wife Megan Ferguson will travel around the world and explore new topics. Thought leaders like astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and molecular scientist Daisy Robinton will appear in the series. Here’s where things get interesting: The show won’t have any commercials. Instead, Swedish fashion retailer Gant is funding the entire project. While the details are still a bit unclear, the show itself is meant to boost brand awareness and promote the company’s values. Gant does plan to advertise the show itself, supporting it with over 150 forms of media, including images, gifs, video segments, and pre-roll video ads across digital platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. Couple Thinkers debuts October 9.

Uber has filed a lawsuit against the mobile ad agency Fetch Media, alleging that the agency failed to prevent ad fraud and misrepresented how effective its ads were. Uber is seeking $40 million in damages. Fetch, which is based in the UK, strenuously denied the allegations. “We are shocked by Uber’s allegations which are unsubstantiated, completely without merit, and purposefully inflammatory so as to draw attention away from Uber’s unprofessional behaviour and failure to pay suppliers,” said Fetch CEO James Connelly in a statement.
