“Saturday Night Lives” returns for its 47th Season on October 2 and has named the hosts for its first four consecutive shows – all newbies. Owen Wilson leads the premiere episode with musical guest Kacey Musgraves. Kim Kardashian West hosts on October 9 with Halsey providing the musical entertainment, Rami Malek follows on October 16 with Young Thug, and Jason Sudeikis tackles the hosting duties on October 23 with Brandi Carlile.
Netflix released a trailer for its Britney vs Spears documentary just as the courtroom battle heats up over the conservatorship that’s controlled Britney Spears’ life. Among the highlights, Spears is heard saying, “It’s been 13 years and it’s enough!”. The doc is scheduled to debut on Tuesday, September 28.
CBSN streaming service is getting a new name: CBS News. Along with the move, local news streaming services will be rebranded, such as CBS News Denver and CBS News Boston. Neeraj Khemlani, President and Co-Head of CBS News and Stations revealed the name change during a town hall on Wednesday, noting that it is “another example of how we are bringing our divisions together.”
There’s another “Real Housewives” project on the horizon, only this one is of the literary variety. Andy Cohen Books will publish NOT ALL DIAMONDS AND ROSE: The Inside Story of The Real Housewives From the People Who Lived It, by entertainment journalist Dave Quinn (People, Entertainment Weekly) on October 19. “I like to think of NOT ALL DIAMONDS AND ROSE as the ultimate reunion,” said Cohen. “I know readers will be surprised, entertained and even shocked at what’s in store.”
Whip Media and NATPE have partnered to launch a report on global content viewership to help buyers and distributors evaluate what international content is most popular among US viewers. Leading the pack of the 10 most-viewed non-U.S. TV series is Netflix’s global hit “Money Heist,” followed by “Sex Education,” “Schitt’s Creek” and “Love Island.” Belgium’s “Into the Night” ranked #5, followed by “Kim’s Convenience,” “Slasher,” “Coroner,” “Doctor Who” and “Burden of Truth.”

Former “Dancing with the Stars” host Tom Bergeron has a new gig. He’s set to host a remake of the classic gameshow “Tic-Tac-Dough” that’s in the works at NBC Universal, according to Deadline. Harry Friedman and Village Roadshow TV are executive producing the project.
Showtime has ordered “Let the Right One In,” led by Oscar nominee Demian Bichir (“A Better Life”). Andrew Hinderaker (“Away,” “Penny Dreadful”), who wrote the pilot, will serve as showrunner and executive produce along with Seith Mann (“Homeland”). Inspired by the hit Swedish novel and film, the series centers on Mark (Bichir) and his daughter Eleanor (Taylor Baez) whose lives were changed forever 10 years earlier when she was turned int a vampire.
Baratunde Thurston’s memoir “How To Be Black” is being adapted into an animated series for ABC, with Thurston and “black-ish” showrunner Courtney Lilly writing and executive producing. The show is also being executive produced by Laurence Fishburne and Helen Sugland via Cinema Gypsy Productions. Thurston’s book focuses on the community and family that raised him as a youth in 1980s Washington, D.C.
Hulu has issued a series order to “Black Cake,” a drama based on the upcoming book by Charmaine Wilkerson. The project hails from “Women of the Movement” creator Marissa Jo Cerar, Harpo Films and Kapital Entertainment.
DreamWorks Animation’s series “Dragons Rescue Riders” is getting a spinoff. Peacock will launch “Dragons Rescue Riders: Heroes of the Sky,” an offshoot of the kids’ series that has run on Netflix for two seasons and will bow on November 24.
Casting Notes: Rashida Jones and David Oyelowo have joined AppleTV+ series “Wool”… “Chicago Med” and “Arrow” star Colin Donnell will lead Peacock crime drama “Irreverent”… Showtime’s anthology series “Super Pumped” has rounded out its cast, adding Virginia Kull (“The Looming Tower”), Amanda Brooks (“Aquarius”), Annie Chang (“Shades of Blue”), Erinn Ruth (“Billions”) and Mishka Thebaud (“The Boys”).

“Murder Nation,” an investigation docu-series that spotlights deadly crimes, focuses on homicides in the seaside towns of New Jersey in Season 2’s “Jersey Gore.” It bows Sunday, October 10 at 10p on HLN.
“Free Enterprise” premieres October 30 as part of Litton’s Weekend Adventure programming block airing every Saturday morning on ABC stations nationwide. The series shares the journeys of the formerly incarcerated who dream of starting their own businesses, after struggling to find employment because of their criminal records.
STARZ’s “Hightown” returns on Sunday, October 17 at 9p. In the second season, the picture-perfect version of summer on Cape Cod clashes with its off-season reality.

Dukes, Polaris aims to uncover and share stories created by Black, Indigenous and People of Color about Hip-Hop and Black culture with the world.
MATV Motorsports Network launched 24/7 streaming channel MAVTV Select on Pluto TV. It features a vast lineup of racing content including “American Sprint Car Series,” “Late Model Dirt Series,” “Pro Pulling League,” “ARCA Menards” and more available for free.
Crayola has launched a new season of “Scribble Scrubbie Pets,” produced by WildPark Spark. The 20 three-minute animations and 20 one-minute draw-along episodes debuted on the Crayola Kingdom YouTube channel, this month.

Connected TV is among the fastest growing channels in digital advertising today. According to eMarketer, 67% of the U.S. population is expected to be using CTV by 2025, representing a $27 billion dollar ad market. To that end, Viant Technology Inc. and Integral Ad Science announced an expanded partnership integrating IAS’s CTV fraud pre-bid solution within the Adelphic advertising software, enhancing CTV fraud protection capabilities for brands and agencies.
Comcast launched new wireless streaming device the XiOne, enabling the first delivery of video services over internet protocol for Sky customers in Europe. The device is part of Comcast’s larger hardware strategy to own “input A” on TV sets.
Wurl has unveiled Wurl Perform, a new performance marketing service that enables streaming TV apps to acquire new viewers and reduce churn via targeted promotional campaigns. With Wurl Perform, every campaign impression and conversion is measured, which provides streamers trackable return on ad spend.

MTV International announced three new specials from its “Teen Mom” franchise — “Teen Mom UK: My Mum and Me,” “Teen Mom UK: Mums Move In” and “Teen Mom UK: My Birth Story.” They’ll begin premiering on September 29.
STARZ original series “Outlander” is traveling to Starzplay as its exclusive new UK home. Starzplay will launch the show’s upcoming sixth season day and date with the U.S. and add all previous seasons of “Outlander” to its content library before new episodes roll out.
DCD Rights announced its new series slate and global sales for its line-up of factual programming. “Outback Car Hunters” produced by CJZ for Discovery, has been picked up by Nine Network – Australia, international broadcast Viasat World for Central and Eastern Europe and others. In addition, Season 7 of “Aussie Gold Hunters,” Season 2 of “Aussie Bull Catchers,” Season 2 of “Disasters Engineered” (titled “Deadly Engineering” in the U.S.) and “Fast Justice” have all been sold internationally.

Talk show hosts were the hottest sector in syndication for the week of September 6. “Ellen DeGeneres” (0.8 Live+SD national Nielsen Rating, up 14% from the week before) and “Tamron Hall” (0.7, up 17%) were major gainers in the top tier. “Ellen,” which was in repeats as it prepares to launch its final season on September 13, saw a 40% increase over last September. “Tamron” scored with the first week of its third season garnering the best national year-to-year performance of any talk show in the top ten. “Live With Kelly Ryan (1.7, up 6%) led daytime talkers for the 18th straight week, kicking off its 34th season.
Fox Business Network’s debut of its new “FBN Prime” lineup on Monday led the network to its highest-rated premiere of the year with Total Viewers. At 8p, “How America Works” garnered 236,000 Total Viewers, notching FBN’s highest-rated primetime telecast of 2021 and tallying triple digit increases with Total Viewers and A25-54 vs. 2021 year-to-date the time slot. At 9p, “American Built” nabbed 111,000 viewers, delivering triple digit growth year-to-date in the time slot.
