IN THE NEWS

Bundle up: Paramount+ and Showtime have combined into a single service, giving subscribers access to content from both streamers. A promotional discount offers the new Paramount+ with Showtime bundle for up to 33% off through October 2. “This singular user experience streamlines sign-up and enhances discovery, and this lower price will allow more households to enjoy this exceptional combined entertainment offering,” said Tom Ryan, President and CEO of Paramount Global Streaming. Showtime will continue to be available separately.

Young people watch the news, they just don’t like it, according to a study conducted by the Media Insight Project. Among people ages 16 to 40, 79% said they get news daily, with 71% citing social media as a source. But only 32% said they enjoy following news, down from 53% seven years ago.

California passed a children’s online safety bill, restricting data collection on websites likely to be accessed by minors. The California Age-Appropriate Design Code would prohibit operators of websites from sharing their personal information, unless necessary to provide a specific service the minor is actively using, or unless collecting or sharing the information is in minors’ best interests. Sites would be required to implement privacy-protective default settings for minors unless they can show a compelling reason for a less privacy-protecting setting.

Families are shifting from linear TV, according to a study commissioned by Future Today, with 62% of respondents who stream kids and family-focused programming saying they no longer have access to linear TV and 90% saying they rarely watch it when they do. Of the families surveyed, 85% of the parents fall in the 25-44 age range; 36% are more likely to identify as Black; and 78% are more likely to identify as Hispanic. Ninety-eight percent of families said they love watching TV and 81% agreed that TV is their favorite form of entertainment. The upshot? “For advertisers trying to reach a diverse and engaged audience, buying kids and family-focused inventory presents a rich opportunity,” said Vikrant Mathur, Co-Founder, Future Today.
