After seven years on ABC‘s The View, co-host Sherri Shepherd says goodbye on Monday, August 11 at 11a. The hour-long celebration includes guest co-host Arsenio Hall, friends and gospel superstars Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin and Donnie McClurkin, and Bell Biv Devoe.

IN THE NEWS

Meanwhile, the ABC talker has started shooting audition tests to replace Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy. It’s been reported that Whoopi Goldberg participated in the process that included Lauren Sanchez (Fox‘sKTTV Los Angeles Good Day Live),  October Gonzalez (wife of Tony Gonzalez), Republican adviser Ana Navarro, CNN contributing legal analyst Sunny Hostin, S.E. Cupp (CNN’s Crossfire), Bloomberg Television’s managing editor and news anchor Stephanie Ruhle, ESPN and ABC’s Sage Steele, Jemele Hill (ESPN’s  Numbers Never Lie) and MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace.

Parents Television Council President Tim Winter sent an open letter to The Simpsons creator Matt Groening asking him not to air rape jokes during the comedy’s crossover episode with FOX‘s Family Guy, slated to air in the fall. Winter was prompted to contact Groening after content was widely disseminated on YouTube. “I respectfully and humbly urge you not to allow ‘Springfield’ to be a place where we are asked to laugh at humanity’s most heinous and disgusting crimes against children,” said Winter.

Another coup for Netflix: The streaming video service passed HBO on the subscription revenue front last quarter, earning $1.15 billion to the cable network’s $1.14 billion. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings posted the news on Facebook, noting that HBO is still ahead in profits and Emmys, but "we are making progress. HBO rocks, and we are honored to be in the same league. “

The results of a survey conducted by celebrity brand strategist Jeetendr Sehdev on the popularity of YouTube stars versus Hollywood stars among teenagers showed that 5 and 6 of the top 10 were YouTubers. And Internet celebs scored significantly higher than Hollywood celebrities on characteristics considered to have the highest correlation to influencing purchases among teens. “Digital broadcasting has moved from being an afterthought into the forefront,” said Internet Marketing Expert and WebiMax CEO Ken Wisnefski. “Today adults are spending a full hour more per day on their mobile devices than they do watching television, and as this survey indicates, that gap is sure to widen in the future.”

Dane Cook returns to the stage with his directorial debut in Dane Cook Troublemaker, premiering Friday, October 17 at 10p on Showtime. Special was filmed last fall.

Khloe Kardashian and Scott Disick grace the Hamptons in the season finale of USA Network‘sRoyal Pains on Tuesday, September 2 at 9p. Playing themselves, the pop culture stars are having dinner at a local hot spot when they’re recognized, prompting Hank’s (Mark Feuerstein) girlfriend Charlotte (recurring guest star Gillian Alexy) to ask Evan (Paulo Costanzo) to make an introduction.

BRANDS AND ADVERTISING

Total Market enterprise was the hot topic at yesterday’s “Reframe the Brand” summit in NYC.  “Change is happening,” event organizer Jeffrey Bowman, founder of the Cross-Cultural Marketing and Communication Association, told the audience of advertising execs of the new industry vertical. “You cannot go after Millennials without going after Hispanics,” said Revolt CEO Keith Clinkscales, “this audience does not spend its time on the petty nuances of race.” From Met Life VP, product development Lewis Goldman: “It’s become a business necessity, not a ‘check the box’ decision.” “Be smart but be brave,” was the advice from Vice chief strategic officer Spencer Bain. “Do something a little different.”
