Nielsen will add Facebook to its ranking of TV shows generating the most activity on social media and plans to add Instagram in the future. Currently, the chart only measures Twitter. The new Nielsen Social Index will rank series as well as sports programming separately. The chart will show how many total social-media interactions there were for each show and break it down by Twitter and Facebook as well.
Viacom is making a shift to use more comScore data in its data-driven ad deals based on its Viacom Vantage product. Helping comScore get a leg up was its purchase of Rentrak last year.

GoDaddy will be the first brand to use a programmatic video live-stream ad unit from Traction Labs. AdExchanger reports that attendees at this weekend’s SheKnows Media conference in L.A. will be able to pitch ideas to GoDaddy execs. That live-streamed event will feature programmatic ads. Traction previously did work for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders to “distribute live videos of his rallies to programmatically targeted audiences, who could click to watch at the campaign site.”
Open ad management company for multiscreen campaigns Sizmek has announced two enhancements for StrikeAd, the mobile-first programmatic media solution for global brands and trading desks, as part of its self-service SaaS offering. Ad buyers can now access hyperlocal and contextual video ad targeting capabilities on StrikeAd’s mobile first demand-side platform. StrikeAd also now has a partnership with Dailymotion Exchange, the private video exchange of Dailymotion.

Washington, D.C., will be the home of the first virtual reality arcade on the East Coast. D.C.-based virtual reality software developer Notion Theory took some of its office space and made it into the new arcade that is called notionVR. Gamers there will use HTC Vive headsets.
Two former musicians from Dublin have launched Firstage, an augmented-reality music stage platform to help bands show off their live performances. The organization films performances in front of a green screen and then consumers across the globe can watch using an AR-based smartphone app.
Lexus and Comedy Central have teamed up to launch Junketeers, which gives viewers a fictional look behind-the-scenes at what it is like for journalists to cover celebrities. The eight episodes of the first season are all now available via L/Studio, the Lexus-owned digital content channel.
Vimeo is launching its first concert film, Toro y Moi: Live From Trona. Shot in the Mojave Desert, the film was directed by Harry Israelson of Bunker fame. Residents of New York and L.A. can go see the film on the big screen but everyone else can check it out on Vimeo.
Collider has a new app available on all Apple TV and Roku devices allowing consumers to find the company’s original shows and video content. In addition, Variety reports Roku “may be getting ready to unveil a refreshed line of streaming devices.” Documents filed with the Federal Communications Commission show that the company is seeking permission to manufacture three new streaming boxes.
Asia’s first and only festival for web series is about to have its second annual go-around. KWeb Fest will be based in the city of Seoul and take place Aug. 18-20 under the slogan, “Make it Yours.”
As the Olympics kick off, video advertising software company Tremor Video has looked into how US consumers view the Games. Some findings are below:
– Half of viewers say the background stories of specific athletes draw them into the games, and featuring the drama and backstories of athletes also resonates more strongly in advertising.
– Two in five viewers multi-task while watching major sporting events like the Olympics, and viewers are also fairly active online using their mobile devices while watching the Games.
– Women and millennials are more likely to reserve viewing for the weekends; males and older adults plan to watch during primetime.
– Millennials are least likely to watch live via broadcast TV, but more likely to watch using non-authenticated sites or through social media platforms.
– While the majority of viewers plan to watch the games at home, consumers also plan to watch at bars/restaurants or at work. Compared to women, men are nearly 2x more likely to watch Olympic events at work (1.87x)
Marketers are loving Facebook video. In a new report by Trusted Media Brands published in Luxury Daily, 65% of those surveyed say social platforms are their most important digital video campaign partners over YouTube and Vevo. Live-stream video advertising has marketers intrigued: 89 percent are thinking of using it in the next year. It was also found that social platforms rule the roost when going up against video demand-side platforms, full-episode players and multichannel networks. In addition, 40 percent of those responding said that Facebook should set the precedent for the future of online video.
AOL surveyed 300 US-based, premium publishers on distribution, mobile, and video, among other things for its first-ever Publisher Outlook Report. Some of the findings include the following:
–75% of publishers will increase mobile investment in the next 12 months
-Video is projected to be the No. 1 revenue driver for publishers in 2016
-More than 90% of publishers find off-site distribution (Facebook, Apple News, etc.) has had a positive impact
-The biggest mobile challenge for publishers? Ad blockers (49%)
-Nearly half of all publishers polled use header bidding technology
-Over 75% expect to expand subscription options in the next 12 months
British media regulator Ofcom‘s Communications Market Report has it that Netflix is the “driving force” behind UK residents checking out more content on subscription video on demand services. The 1,512 respondents shared that demand for Netflix has gone up 10 percentage points to 23% since 2014. Amazon Prime Instant Video came in second with a weekly reach of 7%.
