TUDN saw its coverage of the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup on Sunday night average 5.7 million Total Viewers 2+ and 3.03 million Adults 18-49 on Univision and TUDN to rank as Univision’s most-watched soccer telecast since the 2016 Copa America final. The US victory peaked during the 10:30p quarter hour with 6.21 million Total Viewers 2+ and 3.32 million Adults 18-49. For the tournament (31 matches), Concacaf Gold Cup on Univision’s networks averaged 1.36 million Total Viewers 2+ and 694,000 Adults 18-49, delivering the summer’s top rated soccer tournament on any network.

PROGRAMMING

In other ratings news, ESPN reports that its coverage of Formula 1’s Hungarian Grand Prix delivered an average audience of 964,000 viewers, the largest U.S. average audience on record for a Formula 1 event from Hungary. F1 races on ESPN networks are averaging 946K viewers – up 56% over the full season of 2020.

FOX Sports revealed its talent lineup for NFL coverage this fall, anchored by the return of Joe Buck/Troy Aikman and reporter Erin Andrews, while Tom Rinaldi, joins the crew for all America’s Game of the Week editions. Thursday Night Football will see Kristina Pink again join Buck, Aikman, Andrews and Pereira from the sidelines. Other pairings include: Kevin Burkhardt/Greg Olsen/Pam Oliver; Adam Amin/Mark Schlereth/Shannon Spake; Kenny Albert/Jonathan Vilma/Sara Walsh & Lindsay Czarniak; Chris Myers/Daryl “Moose” Johnston/Jennifer Hale; and Kevin Kugler/Mark Sanchez//Laura Okmin. Gus Johnson adds select NFL games to his schedule this year, calling matchups alongside Aqib Talib with Megan covering the sidelines. In the studio, Curt Menefee hosts with Terry Bradshaw, Jimmy Johnson, Howie Long and Michael Strahan for FOX NFL SUNDAY. FOX NFL KICKOFF sees Charissa Thompson return as host.

Speaking of the NFL, ESPN covers the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremonies this weekend with a pair of primetime presentations honoring both classes with Louis Riddick and Chris Mortensen. Chris Berman will emcee the Enshrinement Ceremonies for the 21st year.

Meanwhile, NFL Network’s live coverage of Pro Football Hall of Fame weekend begins Saturday at 5:30p with Hall of Fame Saturday hosted by Rich Eisen, Michael Irvin, Kurt Warner and Steve Wyche, leading up to the 2020 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony at 6:30p hosted by Eisen and Wyche. On Sunday, NFL Network’s coverage begins at 6p with Hall of Fame Sunday hosted by Rich Eisen, Michael Irvin, Kurt Warner and Steve Wyche.

FOX Sports is making the Aug. 12 MLB Field of Dreams game from Dyersville, Iowa, available in 4K/HDR. Delivering the New York Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox game from the set of the Academy Award nominated film, FOX Sports will leverage multiple aerial production drones, two Megalodon cameras, 4 Super SloMos and a Flycam as part of its arsenal of 39 native 1080p HDR cameras. The production also will include 50-plus microphones, including multiple mics buried on the playing field and one on each base.

The NCAA reportedly undervalued its annual women’s basketball tournament by tens of millions of dollars and should overhaul how it operates and sells rights to the event, according to a report by the law firm Kaplan Hecker & Fink LL designed to analyze gender inequities in its championships. According to the WSJ, the report concludes that maximizing revenues from women’s basketball and other sports will “promote gender equity while at the same time increasing and diversifying the NCAA’s revenue streams.”

SiriusXM picked up exclusive rights to weekly national show Let’s Go!, featuring Tom Brady and Larry Fitzgerald. Starting in September, the one-hour show will feature back-to-back, in-depth conversations with Brady and Fitzgerald, conducted by Jim Gray. The weekly one-hour show will air every Monday at 6p starting September 6 on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio.

Elsewhere in radio, Westwood One is expanding Rich Eisen’s role within the network to include pregame and halftime hosting duties for Monday Night Football on Westwood One. The Monday night schedule kicks off on September 13, when the Baltimore Ravens visit the Las Vegas Raiders and concludes on January 3. In addition, Eisen will host Westwood One’s broadcast of the NFL’s Opening Night on Sept. 9 and he will also contribute to Westwood One’s pregame and halftime coverage of Super Bowl LVI.

Brian Kenny, Cliff Floyd, Sarah Langs and Ken Rosenthal call the analytics-focused MLB Network Statcast telecast powered by Google Cloud featuring the Padres/Athletics at 3:30p. As part of the telecast, Kenny will share a signature MLB Now-like essay, Floyd will do a Skybox demonstration from MLB Network’s Studio 21, and viewers can interact using the hashtag #MLBNStatcast

Friday marks the return of ESPN8: The Ocho, transforming ESPN2 into a channel featuring everything from cow chip championships to cornhole. Overall, ESPN8 will feature 24 hours of unique programming/ As part of this edition, The Ocho will be live from the 2021 American Cornhole League (ACL) World Championships at 9p where Ryan McGee and Marty Smith will participate in the ACL Celebrity Throwdown alongside football legends and ACL Pros. ESPN announced that six renowned former LaLiga players will headline the company’s coverage of LaLiga Santander in the US beginning August 13, when the 2021-22 season kicks off. Talent will include former Atlético Madrid’s Luis Garc?a, Real Madrid’s Steve McManaman, and RCD Espanyol’s Pablo Zabaleta, who will share lead roles as English-language analysts. Former Atletico Madrid’s Diego Forlán, former Valencia CF’s Mario Kempes, and Real Madrid legend Hugo Sánchez lead the team of Spanish-language analysts.

As the WNBA continues to commemorate season 25, the league announced plans for the selection of “The W25” and the first ever launch of the “Vote for the GOAT” program. The W25 platform will consist of the selection and honoring of the WNBA’s 25 greatest and most influential players since its inception in 1997 and will begin with a list of nearly 75 nominees selected based on factors such as on-court performance and ability, leadership, sportsmanship and community service, and contributions to team success and the overall growth of women’s basketball.

Meanwhile, Gaming Society locked in a “first-of-its-kind” partnership and “Bet On Women” campaign with the Women’s National Basketball Players Association. As part of the agreement, Gaming Society licensed the phrase “Bet On Women” from the WNBPA to create a campaign that aims to propel women’s sports forward, maximize fan engagement, develop new audiences and increase visibility for women athletes through betting and gamification. Gaming Society will actively explore partnerships across the sports ecosystem – including with sportsbooks, brands, content platforms, leagues and teams – to encourage active bettors to engage with women’s sports by incentivizing users to literally “bet on women.”

The Professional Fighters League announced a strategic long-term partnership with Legends, in a move that also saw Legends make an investment in PFL for a minority ownership stake. J. Allen Brack, President of Blizzard Entertainment, is departing his role at the company less than two weeks after news broke that the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing that claims harassment and discrimination within the company. In a statement released by Blizzard, the company stated that he will be replaced by a leadership team of Jen Oneal and Mike Ybarra.

Riot inked a deal with FTX to become the Official Cryptocurrency Exchange of the LCS. The record seven-year partnership with FTX represents the largest sponsorship agreement Riot has ever signed for an esports league. FTX branding will be placed on the LCS broadcast around League of Legends Gold. Player net worth, total team gold and gold graphs will all be presented by FTX. Additionally, FTX will directly sponsor the LCS Most Improved Player Award.

FaZe Clan locked in a partnership with McDonald’s USA that will be anchored by a slate of content activations centered around diversity and inclusion, from capturing the diverse stories of FaZe Clan members and challenges in the growing gaming industry, to showcasing underserved and underrepresented youth. “McDonald’s is excited to partner with FaZe Clan to highlight the communities we serve and champion their passion points in a fun way,” said Christopher Mann, Owner/Operator and chair, McDonald’s USA Franchisee Marketing Committee. “Through this partnership, we’re proud to shine a light on the growing diversity of the gaming industry to positively impact the future of gaming for youth.”

The NBA 2K League announced that the 2021 NBA 2K League Playoffs Delivered with DoorDash will take place at Mavs Gaming Hub in Dallas. The opening round through the semifinals will run Aug. 26-28 and the Playoffs will culminate on Sept. 4. This will mark the first time that the NBA 2K League holds games in person since the 2019 NBA 2K League Finals in New York City. Games will be simulcast live at 5p each day on the NBA 2K League’s Twitch and YouTube channels, and will also be available on Dash Radio, ESRevolution, eGG Network in Southeast Asia, Loco in India, Sport1 in Europe and Tencent in China. For the first time in league history, the NBA 2K League will also implement a studio design featuring two stages allowing for simultaneous in?person games.
