DoubleClick Bid Manager: DoubleClick Bid Manager is Google’s programmatic demand-side-platform. Among other things, advertisers can buy YouTube video ad inventory through the platform.
FACEBOOK has gained the live-streaming rights to all nine Team USA basketball exhibition games over the next two weeks. Simulcasts of the games, which are airing in the lead-up to the Olympics, will be live-streamed on the Facebook pages of USA Basketball and NBA TV. Both the women’s and men’s games will be covered, beginning at 9PM ET tonight, when the USA men’s team plays Argentina. Verizon is sponsoring the simulcasts.
YouTube has been blocked in China for some years now, but the gaming-oriented digital media company Machinima is finding its way into the country nonetheless. Under a new exclusive licensing deal with the Chinese Internet company Sohu, Machinima will make ad-supported programming available on the Online Video PGC (Professionally Generated Content) platform, Sohu’s online video service. (For the record, it’s the second most popular streaming service in China, after Alibaba’s Youku Tudou.). Content included in the licensing deal will range from original series to eSports content.
At New York’s Comic-Con, Google and Paramount partnered to test out “instant video ads,” an ad format allowing brands to shoot and edit video, then immediately deliver them as programmatically placed advertisements. Over the course of Wednesday, the cast and crew of Paramount’s Star Trek Beyond used phones to capture red carpet events at the IMAX world premiere screening of the film. They then used Google DoubleClick’s experimental tech to edit the videos and serve them to fans as ads in real-time. “Paramount is the first advertiser to test [instant video ads],” Google confirmed to Media Daily News.
The mobile marketing tech company TUNE has launched Multiverse, a new standalone product. Multiverse is designed to help marketers quickly determine return on ad spend across all their channels, all on one platform. The company says that the product has already been integrated with over 100 ad partners.
The mobile ad-serving and mediation platform AerServ has partnered with The Media Trust, a company that works with digital properties to provide first-party data protection and real-time security. The partnership is designed to offer customers safer ad environments by automatically detecting suspicious or malicious creative, and then making an alert or removing the creative in question. "Through this partnership, major mobile publishers can keep their consumers, their site and, most importantly, their brand safe from malicious mobile ads on a continuous basis," said Chris Olson, The Media Trust’s Founder and CEO, in a release.

Redbox confirmed to Variety that it has begun testing a new streaming service with some customers. Called Redbox Digital, the service will focus on transactional VOD and EST. No word yet on when the app will launch widely. Variety initially reported on Redbox’s plans to launch a new streaming service back in April.

Live-streams from Periscope, Twitter’s app for broadcasting live video, can now be embedded on any website. Periscope live-streams have been available through Twitter timelines since January, but this move potentially exposes Periscope streams to a significantly wider audience.

Canvs, the language analytics company that measures emotions around content, analyzed tweets about TV and streaming programming for July 12 through July 20 using Twitter data from Nielsen. Trends and insights from the 3,036,240 tweets expressing a specific Emotional Reaction (ER) include:
– Viewers were glued to Netflix, which garnered 23.1% of the 10,565 “addicted” ERs across networks, thanks to its original programs Stranger Things and Orange is the New Black.
– VH1 ruled in beauty with 12.2% of all “beautiful” ERs, driven by the Hip Hop Honors: All Hail the Queens.
– NBC was the home of awe, receiving 13.2% of the 25,094 “mindblown” ERs, thanks to a particularly compelling The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with singer Troye Sivan.
– Some CNN viewers were disgruntled, with 9.5% of the 118,946 “hate” ERs being driven in part by coverage of Donald Trump and a broadcast from the Republican National Convention anchored by Don Lemon.
Disney-ABC Television is beefing up digital team. John Solaro, who previously served as design/UX director for Microsoft’s Xbox Design Studio, will serve as Disney-ABC’s Head of User Experience and Product Innovation for digital media. Roger Tsai, who previously served as metadata provider for Gracenote, will serve as VP of Digital Strategy, Business Planning, and Operations for digital media.
MasterClass, a startup specializing in adult education videos featuring big-name celebs, has made a new hire. Matthew Rutler has signed on as the company’s new VP of Talent and Business Development. Rutler, who is engaged to musician and MasterClass instructor Christina Aguilera, was already an investor in the company.
