SIZMEKThough the original cast of CBS‘s The Big Bang Theory, scheduled to start production in two weeks, has yet to sign new contracts, according to CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler the net’s not worried. "We’re feeling very confident," Tassler said at TCA. "These deals always miraculously get done."
Tassler also had a few words to say about the net’s NCIS, the most-watched show in the world. "Our competitors call it old-skewing," said Tassler. "We call it a billion-dollar franchise."
Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) will reprise his Tony Award-winning role as President Lyndon Johnson in All the Way for HBO. The cable movie will be produced by Amblin Television, Tale Told Productions and Moon Shot Entertainment; exec producers include Steven Spielberg, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, screenwriter Robert Schenkkan and Cranston.
Time for Plan C? After the Supreme Court’s June ruling that Aereo violated broadcast networks’ copyrights, the Internet broadcast streaming service applied for the copyright license available to cable systems. But on Wednesday, the U.S. Copyright Office informed Aereo in a letter that it does not consider it Aereo a cable system. "In the view of the Copyright Office," wrote general counsel Jacqueline Charlesworth, "Internet retransmissions of broadcast television fall outside the scope of the Section 111 license."
Beyonce landed the most MTV Video Music Awards nominations, with eight, including Video of the Year for "Drunk in Love." Eminem and Iggy Azalea each scored seven nods. VMAs air Sunday, August 24 at 9p.
Fusion CEO Isaac Lee gave a tip of the hat to his staff Thursday in a note congratulating them on the net’s wide-ranging World Cup coverage. Lee pointed to digital efforts around Fusion’s Soccer Gods franchise, "increasing the social following of @SoccerGods by over 1000 percent," and noted the net gained exposure on parent company ABC‘s Good Morning America and with a partnership with Entertainment Tonight. Next up for the team? Midterm elections, said Lee, "And I welcome everyone’s input and thoughts in how we can bring Fusion’s bold, irreverent voice to our coverage of politics."

Dustin Lance Black (Milk) has been enlisted to write the TV adaptation of A. Scott Berg‘s Lindbergh. The limited series, a Paramount TV production, will be exec produced by Berg, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Killoran and Kevin McCormick.
Destination America renewed Mountain Monsters for season three, ahead of its season two finale Saturday, July 25 at 9p. Production for 16 new episodes is slated to begin later this year for a spring 2015 premiere.
The seventh and final season of FX‘s Sons of Anarchy premieres Tuesday, September 9 at 10p with a one hour and 45 minute episode, followed by live post-show Anarchy Afterward. The aftershow, hosted by Chris Franjola (Chelsea Lately), will air live on FX for the premiere and series finale, and stream on FXNOW three other times during the season.
With childhood diseases on the rise, NOVA dives into the confusion about immunization on Vaccines: Calling the Shots. "There is a tremendous amount of apprehension and confusion around the topic," said Paula S. Apsell, senior exec producer for NOVA. The documentary "dispels the myths and examines the latest science, engaging parents and viewers in a conversation with real answers about the best way to protect their families." Show premieres on PBS Wednesday, September 10 at 9p.
CBS‘ NCIS spinoff NCIS: New Orleans will feature crossovers with the mother ship’s cast; Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly and Pauley Perrette slated to make appearances on the new entry. "We’re our own thing, but we exist very much in the same universe," exec producer Jeffrey Lieber said at TCA.
Nat Geo spin-off Wicked Tuna: North vs. South pits New England fisherman against North Carolina captains starting Sunday, August 17 at 10p. The series will air internationally in 170 countries and 45 languages beginning this fall.
Destination America‘s A Haunting returns for season seven Friday, August 1 at 10p. The net is asking fans to vote in a People’s Choice Poll to determine which five episodes will air in a marathon leading up to the premiere.
Can’t escape ID’s Nowhere to Hide, with NYC private investigator Steven Rambam recounting his most dramatic cases. "Superman and Batman, combined, have nothing on Rambam," said Henry Schleiff, group president of ID, Destination America, AHC and Discovery Fit & Health. "He is the real deal, a modern-day hero." Series debuts Monday, August 4 at 10p.
Character creations from Syfy special effects competition series Face Off will be featured at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood’s "Halloween Horror Nights," beginning Friday, September 19. Season seven of Face Off premieres Tuesday, July 22 at 9p.
Esquire special Best of Running of the Bulls 2014 offers highlights from the net’s first live original television event, with interviews from runners including Bill Hillman, an American runner gored this year. Guad Venegas (Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste) and Jenn Brown (American Ninja Warrior) host on Wednesday, July 23 at 8p.
"Super enthusiast" consumers "do what they view," according to a new study, with one out of every two taking weekly action based on a TV show or ad. The research, commissioned by Scripps Networks Interactive and executed by Gfk, defined super enthusiasts as consumers actively engaged in home, food and travel. Based on an online survey of 2003 adults 25-64, the survey found the group is 40 percent more likely to shop at a department store and 23 percent more likely to explore the aisles in a home improvement store, and over-index on new vehicle purchases (138) and leases (160).
EHarmony is taking a more lighthearted approach in TV spots that will start airing nationally in August. "People have a heavy enough life," Neil Clark, the relationship site’s founder and CEO, told AdAge. "They just like to see something that makes them laugh." Directing the ads: Limp Biskit’s Fred Durst. "He just talks our language," said Clark. TV makes up about 80 percent of the company’s $90 million marketing budget.
Upcoming nets Escape (for women) and Grit (for men) announced the addition of more markets as they ramp up for summer debuts. Univision Television Group is tacking on Washington, D.C., San Francisco and Phoenix to the markets that will carry the channels; Cox Media Group will carry Grit in Orlando, Escape in Charlotte and both in Tulsa; WKWP-TV has Philadelphia covered and Citadel Communications will launch the nets in Providence and Lincoln NE. The additional regions bring distribution to 50 percent of the country.
Discovery Networks International announced new seasons of You Have Been Warned (October Films) and What Happened Next? (Twofour), headed for more than 220 DNI networks globally.
A newsroom restructuring, prompted by budget cuts at UK’s BBC News Group, will result in a reduction of about 220 jobs. The news division will be integrated with BBC World Service, and feature a new 24/7 digital news operation.
Continuing its European shopping spree, Liberty Global acquired a 6.4 percent stake in ITV from BSkyB, for $824 million. "This is an opportunistic and attractive investment for us in our largest cable market," said Liberty CEO Mike Fries. Liberty bought UK’s Virgin Media last year, struck a deal for Netherlands cable operator Ziggo this year and partnered with Discovery to acquire UK’s All3Media in May.
Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) landed the female lead in Netflix superhero drama Daredevil. The 13-ep series debuts in 2015.
June Diane Raphael (NTSF:SD:SUV) and Baron Vaughn (Fairly Legal) have joined the cast of upcoming Jane Fonda/Lily Tomlin Netflix comedy Grace & Frankie, slated for 2015.
Jodi Lyn O’Keefe (Hit the Floor) has been added to the season six cast of CW’s Vampire Diaries, reports EW. O’Keefe’s character is introduced on the drama’s Thursday, October 2 premiere.
Rob Kerkovich (Chasing Life) will play a forensic scientist in upcoming NCIS: New Orleans. Cast is headed by Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap).

CBS‘s Face the Nation was once again first in viewers on Sunday, July 13. ABC‘s This Week topped the news demo for the third consecutive week, according to Nielsen, outperforming NBC‘s Meet the Press in A25-54 by the largest margin in ten weeks.
CBS daytimer The Talk beat ABC‘s The View in W18-49 (.8/5 versus .7/5) and W25-54 (1.1/7 versus 1.0/7) for the first time ever the week ending July 13. "We’ve increased our ratings four years in a row, which in daytime is no easy task," Angelica McDaniel, SVP daytime, tells Cynopsis. "We’ve definitely figured out what works for us."
In its second week, CBS‘s Extant was down just a tenth from its premiere (1.5/5 among A18-49), opposite a repeat of NBC‘s America’s Got Talent.
