Tonight’s Premieres:
Cooking: Bite This with Nadia G at 10p
CW: Backpackers at 8:30p, Seed at 9:30p

Christopher Walken (Deerhunter) will play Captain Hook in NBC holiday event Peter Pan Live. "He might just be the first tap-dancing Captain Hook," said chairman of NBC Entertainment Bob Greenblatt at the TCA press tour Sunday. "I started my career in musicals and it’s wonderful after all this time, at this point in my career, to be in this classic musical I watched as a child and to work with [producers] Neil Meron and Craig Zadan again after Hairspray," said Walken.
NBC announced the renewals of all three of its unscripted summer series: American Ninja Warrior will return for a season six, Last Coming Standing for season eight and America’s Got Talent for a tenth go-round.
21st Century Fox Television chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman are reportedly on the verge of signing a deal to also oversee Fox Broadcasting, filling the spot left by Kevin Reilly‘s June exit. Walden and Newman have run the studio for 15 years.
NBC‘s still in business with Bill Cosby. A series for the Cosby Show star is in development, confirmed Bob Greenblatt at TCA – and scant details are no indication of the network’s interest. "We haven’t made a bigger series commitment, [but] we have a big commitment to Bill himself," said Greenblatt.
Approved by the national board of SAG-AFTRA, a three-year film and TV contract is headed for final ratification by the union’s members. The new agreement unifies the two separate television contracts that entered the merger of SAG and AFTRA in 2012.
Tracy Morgan was released from the rehabilitation center where he was recovering from injuries suffered in a car wreck on June 7. He will continue his recovery with "an aggressive outpatient program," shared his publicist. Morgan and other victims in the accident, including the widow of James McNair, are suing Wal-Mart; a limo bus in which the 30 Rock alum was riding with other passengers was rear-ended by one of the retailer’s tractor-trailers.
Amazon Studios is stealing a page from Netflix‘s playbook and releasing all 10 episodes of dark comedy Transparent at the same time, in late September on Amazon Prime. "I don’t think of it as binging," Joe Lewis, head of original programming, said at TCA. "I just think of it as a five-hour movie." No decision yet on delivery models for returning comedy Alpha House, bowing in October, December’s Mozart in the Jungle or Bosch early next year. The After will go the weekly route in early 2015.
NBC is importing UK TV fundraising event Red Nose Day for a three-hour, celeb-heavy special in May. "Once in a while in our jobs we get to do things that can change lives and entertain at the same time," said Paul Teledgy, president of alternative and late night programming. Red Nose Day has raised over a $1 billion to raise awareness of poverty since it launched overseas in 1985.
Hulu nabbed exclusive streaming rights to South Park. Calling the animated comedy "the sweet spot for our demo," Hulu head of content Craig Erwich announced at TCA that the streaming site will run episodes for free until September 24, at which point they migrate to Hulu Plus.
Late Night‘s Seth Meyers, gearing up to host this year’s primetime Emmys (Monday, August 25 at 8p on NBC), promised at TCA his approach to this year’s show will be "upbeat and fun." Does the late night host feel his hosting jobs are more similar to what he did on SNL than alums who’ve gone on to sitcoms or films? "Everyone is going off to do what makes sense [for them]," Meyers tells Cynopsis. "I think it makes sense for the group of people I was with to do a talk show."
Its passel of 10 Emmy nominations is the most Discovery Channel has received in a single year since 2010, including four for the net’s Deadliest Catch. "I can remember over 30 years ago thinking to myself, ‘Wow, if my friends could see some of the things we went through to catch crab and make a living they wouldn’t believe it,’" said the show’s Captain Sig Hansen. "Yet here we are today – being filmed at something we love to do and 10 years into Deadliest Catch the show is as strong as ever. I never would have thought it would affect people the way that it does."

MTV issued a straight-to-series order for Shannara, based on the fantasy novels by Terry Brooks. MTV and producing partner Sonar Entertainment announced the development deal in December; Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman, Terry Brooks and Dan Farah will exec produce. Liebesman (Teenage Mutant Turtles) takes over directing chores for the first two eps from previously announced Favreau, due to a scheduling conflict.

Also in the Starz: The net’s first unscripted effort, filmmaking experiment The Chair, bows Saturday, September 6 at 11p, and comedy Survivor’s Remorse debuts Saturday, October 4 at 9p. Dramatic thriller The Missing is awaiting a fall premiere date.
Speaking of Survivor’s Remorse, Friday’s TCA panel for the comedy inspired by the life of basketball superstar LeBron James, who’s an exec producer on the show, was asked, "So, LeBron couldn’t make it?" He had a good excuse – earlier that day, James rocked the sports world with his move from the Miami Heat back the Cleveland Cavaliers. But he’s still onboard the series. "He loves the show and obviously he has his reasons he’s not here," said exec producer Maverick Carter.
The season finale of What’s In the Barn? involves a broken bike and a Catholic priest. All will be explained Tuesday, July 22 at 10p on Velocity.

Reelz looks at the life of single mom Alejandra Jackson, mother to children of both Jackson Five’s Jermaine Jackson and Randy Jackson, in six-parter Living with the Jacksons (wt). The ID Productions reality show, part of the net’s "Hollywood Happens Here" slate, bows Tuesday, November 18 at 8p.
AMC‘s 4th and Loud, a docu-series following Kiss’ Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley trying to turn around an arena football franchise, launches Tuesday, August 12 at 9p. "What we’ve brought to rock ‘n’ roll we want to bring to sport," said Stanley at TCA. Which means spectacle, sexy cheerleaders and "bells and whistles" -but they do draw the line at linebackers in makeup.
Reelz also has a new reality series on tap: Polka Kings premieres Tuesday, January 6. The High Noon Entertainment production chronicles a polka band’s quest for stardom.

A "Fiesta Forever" (cue Lionel Richie) spot from BBDO launched last week.
