Tweet revenge? The day after President Donald Trump posted ugly tweets about Morning Joe hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, their show averaged 1.66 million viewers (versus a 2Q17 average of 997,000) and 408,000 among A25-54, topping cable morning news shows.
The season 4 premiere of TV Land’s Younger was the comedy’s highest-rated and most-watched telecast ever, according to Live+3 data. Younger scored a .8 rating among A25-54, a 1.2 W25-54 and 1.3 million total viewers.
Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular earned a 1.3/7 rating among A18-49 for NBC, and 6.4 million viewers. That was a 13% dip versus 2016 in the demo, but enough to win the night.
Scripps Network Interactive’s June ratings report cart: HGTV closed Q2 as the No. 2 primetime cable network among W25-54 and No. 6 among P25-54. It also notched its highest rated primetime second quarter in network history for M25-54. Food Network ranked No. 10 among W18-49 and finished No. 8 among W18-49 in June. Compared with last year, Travel Channel inched up three spots in cable rankings for Q2, and up two spots for the month of June. Second quarter tied DIY Network ’s most upscale quarter ever, while June saw a 3 percent increase among M25-54, tied as the net’s highest June ever for that demo. Cooking Channel enjoyed its second highest rated quarter ever, posting 6 percent gains year-over-year, marking the twelfth straight quarter that either grew or matched year-ago delivery among P25-54, and Great American Country recorded its highest rated second quarter among M25-54 in ten years.
ABC‘s Battle of the Network Stars debuted to 4.0 million total viewers and 1.0/4 among A18-49. The Gong Show followed at 10p, retaining 100% of is week-earlier debut, with .9/4 in the demo, and 3.5 million viewers.
Investigation Discovery boasted double-digit growth for the quarter and year-to-date among key demos. Earning its best 2Q in network history, ID ranked #1 in total day delivery of W25-54 and #2 among P25-54 (behind only TNT) in the second quarter. Record-setting 2Q prime delivery included: P2+ (1.05 million), HH (865,000), P25-54 (441,000), W25-54 (297,000), P18-49 (350,000) and W18-49 (231,000) on Live+3 Day viewing.
Premier Boxing Champions on Bounce, airing Friday at 9p live from Toledo, OH with a premiere play for the west coast immediately following, reached more than 1.3 million viewers 2+ and over one million Households. Versus the previous PBC on Bounce telecast in March, the event was up 17% in Households, 106% in P18-49 and 62% among P25-54.
Syndicated talker Dr. Phil was up 15% (to 3.0) versus the week before, despite being in reruns the week ending June 25, and up 20% versus last year. Live with Kelly & Ryan dipped 5% to 2.0, but held onto second place among talkers with taped and repackaged shows. Each with a .9HH rating, Crime Watch Daily was up 13% from last year, and freshman Harry was up 13% week over week.
On Corus Entertainment’s W Network in Canada, Date My Dad is the #1 scripted premiere of the summer to date with key female audiences, as well as the #1 and #2 program for the network in key female and adult demos, respectively, according to Numeris PPM Data.
MTV‘s Wild ‘N Out premiere on Thursday, June 29, was the network’s highest rated unscripted episode with P12-17 (1.0 rating) in more than two years, up 143%, with an 86% boost among P18-34 (to .7).
TVision‘s ranking of TV shows for attention, measuring eyes-on viewing, noted a shift in top shows for the month of June. “As many scripted TV series wrapped up in May, we see a new list of top attention-grabbing shows for June. Instead of scripted sitcoms and dramas, game and competition shows Superhuman, Hollywood Game Night, The Amazing Race, and World of Dance all made the top 5,” Mark Green, chief strategy officer, TVision Insights, tells Cynopsis. As for drama Gotham, the exception to the rule, “Its season finale in June likely helped propel it to a spot in the Top 5.”

YouTube and VH1 star Stevie Ryan has died. She was 33. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office ruled her death a suicide by hanging. Ryan was known for the Stevie TV sketch series, which ran for two seasons on VH1, and for her YouTube channel, which amassed millions of views. She recently co-hosted Mentally Ch(ill), a podcast focused on depression.
