On Telemundo, the channel’s Olympics’ coverage ranked as the top Spanish-language network on last Saturday and Sunday in the 6a-6pm Olympic daypart across broadcast & cable for adults 18-49 and total viewers. Saturday delivered 267,000 total viewers and 100,000 adults 18-49, while Sunday delivered 390,000 total viewers and 174,000 adults 18-49.
The NBA revealed the game and broadcast schedules for MGM Resorts NBA Summer League 2021, which will run Aug. 8-17 at Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion on the campus of UNLV. All 75 games of the 10-day competition will air live on television on ESPN networks or NBA TV in addition to streaming on the ESPN App with the Championship Game on Aug. 17 at 9p on ESPN. MGM Resorts NBA Summer League 2021 will tip off on Aug. 8 with eight games, highlighted by appearances on ESPN2 by the four teams that hold the first four overall picks in NBA Draft 2021 presented by State Farm. The Detroit Pistons, who have the No. 1 overall pick in the July 29 draft, will face the Oklahoma City Thunder (No. 6 pick) at 8:30p. The Houston Rockets (No. 2 pick) will meet the Cleveland Cavaliers (No. 3 pick) at 6:30p, which follows a matchup between the Toronto Raptors (No. 4 pick) and the New York Knicks at 4:30p.
Hulu announced today the addition of NFL Network to its Live TV streaming lineup, in addition to a new Sports Add-On package that includes NFL RedZone. “We are excited to bring NFL Network and NFL RedZone to Hulu + Live TV subscribers,” said Hans Schroeder, EVP and Chief Operating Officer of NFL Media. “One of our top priorities as a League remains broadening the distribution platforms for NFL content, and so we’re very pleased to bring our lineup of award-winning shows and live games to Hulu’s live subscribers.”
Crystina Poncher and Mikaela Mayer are on deck to make history next month, becoming the first all-female broadcast team to call a boxing match when they call the international broadcast of the Joshua Franco-Andrew Moloney card Aug. 14. “We’ve both worked extremely hard to raise the profile of women in our sport,” Mayer said in the announcement. “And this is proof that our hard work has not gone unnoticed. I would like to thank Top Rank and ESPN for supporting the growth of women in boxing and helping us to break more boundaries.”
CBS Sports and Infront announced a multi-year agreement for CBS Sports and Paramount+ to become the exclusive U.S. home of the Scottish Professional Football League. CBS Sports will offer fans at least 85 matches annually through 2024-2025 from the cinch Premiership as well as the second-division cinch Championship and the Premier Sports Cup. Coverage begins on Saturday with select matches throughout the deal streaming exclusively on Paramount+. As part of the multi-platform deal, CBS Sports will feature every Old Firm match between Rangers and Celtic, as well as a weekly program with highlights from across the league.
ESPN issued a response on Thursday to Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby’s allegations that they company is attempting to destabilize the conference. “The accusations you made are entirely without merit,” ESPN executive Burke Magnus, president of programming and content, stated in a letter to the Commissioner. The Big 12 sent a cease-and-desist letter to Magnus on Wednesday, claiming that ESPN was pushing conferences to raid the league in a move to let Texas and Oklahoma enter the Southeastern Conference early.
Meanwhile, Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports reports that the AAC is looking to take all eight remaining members of the Big 12.

The WTA released an update to the 2021 WTA Tour calendar, outlining the final regular Tour events of the season from mid-September through October. The updated calendar features four new fall tournaments in Portoroz (Slovenia), Chicago (USA), Tenerife (Spain) and Courmayeur (Italy), as well as the return of the BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells) following its cancellation in 2020. DraftKings and Sports & Social announced a strategic new relationship to create upscale Sports & Social/DraftKings sports bars beginning in the Nashville and Detroit markets, pending regulatory approvals. The Boston Red Sox and DraftKings announced a deal making DraftKings the official Daily Fantasy Sports provider of the franchise. Last season, players used RealResponse to communicate COVID-19 health and safety questions and violations to the NFLPA; now, all players and clubs will have the ability to anonymously and securely report any and all issues with regard to player health and safety to the NFLPA in real time for everything from training camp issues, drug policy infractions, social injustice concerns, medical issues, COVID-19 policy violations, misconduct, hazing, harassment, and more as well as using the system to highlight successes and best practices which might go otherwise unnoticed.
Riot Games’s LOL Esports is giving a facelift to the European Regional Leagues, Europe’s minor league infrastructure. The company announced that it had extended license deals with almost all of its current European Regional Leagues (ERLs) beginning in 2022. With teams in place, changes will include ERLs being grouped into one of two categories – Accredited ERLs and Non-Accredited ERLs, starting in 2022. While Riot will select which tier they are categorized as to begin with, every Non-Accredited ERL can apply to become an Accredited ERL at any time, provided they meet the relevant criteria. In addition, some leagues will become unified, with the Baltic league merging into the Polish ERL (Ultraliga) and the Dutch and Belgium leagues merging to form a new Benelux league. The company is also standardizing the prize money for both the accredited and non-accredited leagues and are increasing team subsidies in all ERLs while all ERL partners receive the right to enable co-streaming for all teams participating in a first division of an ERL provided it is during their own games and within Riot regulations.
