Entertainment and media revenues dropped 3.8% to $2 trillion during pandemic-impacted 2020, but PwC’s new Global Entertainment and Media Outlook projects an increase to $2.2 trillion in 2021, hitting $2.6 trillion in 2025 – faster growth than the overall economy. While traditional TV and home video will continue to make up the largest share of total consumer revenue, it is expected to decline 1.2% annually. “After a difficult decade in which broadcasters coped with declining viewership and threats from online advertising while still investing in infrastructure and technology, the sector will near a tipping point by 2025, when revenue from online and connected TV will be just $1 billion smaller than multichannel TV advertising revenue,” said PwC.
