OTT + SVOD
If Netflix wants to keep pace overseas, it needs to churn out its own localized content. For example: African streamer Showmax has started production on its first original shows, including an eight-part mockumentary series (title: Tali’s Wedding Diary) starring YouTube star Julia Anastasopoulos. The service has also started production on crime drama iNumber Number, an adaptation of a 2013 film of the same name.
Amazon Channels is tacking on some new services. The Amazon video service, which offers Prime members access to premium TV Everywhere services from the likes of HBO and Showtime, will now let users log into networks’ standalone streaming apps as well. Instead of entering one’s pay-TV credentials to gain access to an app, users will be able to simply enter in their Amazon account info.

Another notable tidbit: Among current streamers, 61% say they would be willing to pay up to $2 extra per month for their subscriptions if prices went up. The study surveyed more than 1,000 OTT subscribers in the U.S.
