Barbara Walters is still in the game. The veteran journalist, who retired from The View last month, landed an interview with Peter Rodger, the father of Santa Barbara shooting suspect Elliot Rodger. The talk will run on a special edition of ABC‘s 20/20, and other ABC News platforms.

IN THE NEWS

The World Cup lost Jennifer Lopez – the singer "regretfully" pulled out of performing at the event’s opening ceremony. Lopez recorded "We Are One (Ola Ola)" with rapper Pitbull and Brazil’s Claudia Leitte, and the threesome had been scheduled to perform it Thursday, June 12, before the first match.

Season one of The Bridge became available on the Hulu Plus subscription service Monday, giving viewers time to catch up on the drama, a co-production of Shine America and FX Productions. Season two premieres on FX Wednesday, July 9 at 10p.

There’s Power across the pond. Starz Digital Media announced early digital purchase is available in the UK for the STARZ original series on Mondays, following its Saturday night premieres Stateside. Digital electronic sell-through is available on Amazon Instant Video, blinkbox, Google Play, iTunes, Sony Entertainment Network and Xbox Video.

The Hollywood Radio and Television Society hosts its "Summer Comedy Panel" Thursday, June 12 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Panelists include Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project), Mike Judge (Silicon Valley), Michael Schur (Parks and Recreation), and Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) for a discussion on the business and creative process of comedy. The event is part of HRTS’s Newsmaker Luncheon series.

MTV renewed Faking It, averaging 948,000 total viewers and 1.5 among A123-34, for a season two. The comedy’s season one finale airs tonight at 10:30p.

Comedy Central is bringing back Inside Amy Schumer for season three, and Review and animated Trip Tank for season twos. Another Period, about the shallow search for fame circa 1902, and digital graduate Idiotsitter, got series orders.

Ryan Murphy, creator of Glee and American Horror Story, will receive the Louis XIII Genius Award at the fourth annual Critics’ Television Awards, airing on CW Thursday, June 19 at 8p. Last year’s winner was Judd Apatow; Murphy is the first to be honored for television work.

ABC Family has begun production on three drama pilots: Recovery Road, based on the young adult novel by Blake Nelson about addiction; procedural series Stitchers and Unstrung, set in the world of pro tennis.

Universal Cable Productions acquired the rights to best-selling novel Spin, to develop into an event series. Bits and Pieces Pictures Rob Morrow (Northern Exposure) and Olympus Pictures Leslie Urdang (Beginners) are onboard to produce.

B2+‘s Brian Briskman announced the launch of Houndstooth, a new branding and promotion agency. Said Briskman, "We asked ourselves ‘what if we created a new kind of agency to partner with networks, embrace change, try new things, and not be afraid to ask questions?" Based in L.A., Houndstooth is headed by executive creative director Elaine Cantwell.

Kellog Company tapped the Joester Loria Group to develop and execute a licensing program for the Pringles brand. The deal extends a relationship that includes Frosted Flakes, Pop-Tarts, Special K and Corn Flakes. JLG plans to launch an integrated brand extension program across categories including apparel, accessories, housewares and outdoor gear.

J.C. Penney is targeting the Hispanic customer in a push for growth. "Our Latina customer is increasingly shaping the general market," the retailer’s SVP-marketing Debra Berman told AdAge. Backed by a Nielsen study saying more Hispanic women watch the World Cup than non-Hispanic men, Penney’s ad campaign for the tournament includes two 30-second spots during each game. Said Berman, "We wanted to make a big, concentrated splash in the Latino community."

American Muscle debuts Wednesday, July 9 at 9p on Discovery. The Funny or Die docu-series shows training coach Mike Barwis and his team whipping sports pros and everyday joes into shape with "science, tough love and just-plain-crazy."

According to preliminary numbers, the NBA finals on ABC dominated Sunday night, with the game scoring 5.0/15 among A18-49 and 12.55 million viewers. The Tony Awards on CBS delivered a 1.2/3 rating, even with last year, and 7 million viewers, and NBC‘s Miss USA contest scored 1.4 in the demo, up one tenth year-over-year, and 5.6 million viewers. After hitting a series high 7.2 million viewers last week, HBO‘s Game of Thrones dipped to 6.9 million viewers.

Wicked Tuna wound up season three on a high note Sunday, reeling in .8 P25-54 and 1.2 million P2+ for National Geographic Channel.
