The primetime January 6 hearings on Thursday drew an estimated 20 million viewers, according to Nielsen. Viewership among 55+ was 15.2 million, with 3.6 million viewers A35-54, and 834,000 A18-34. ABC topped broadcast networks with an audience of 5.22 million viewers, while MSNBC delivered over four million viewers and CNN drew 2.7 million. Fox News, which had the feed from Congress muted on a split screen (“They are lying, and we are not going to help them do that,” said FNC’s Tucker Carlson), averaged 2.83 million viewers.

Australian soap “Neighbors” filmed its final episode, capping a 37-year run. The decision of UK’s Channel 5 to no longer acquire the show from Fremantle Media in Australia led to the decision to cancel. The series finale airs August 1.

Netflix shares slipped 5.1% on Friday, to $182.94, after Goldman Sachs downgraded the stock from “neutral” to “sell.” “We have concerns around the impact of a consumer recession as well as heightened levels of competition on demand trends,” said a Goldman analyst in a note to clients. The streamer is down from a 52-week high of $700/share.

Amid growing streaming competition, Netflix is expanding further into video games, including games based on its series “The Queen’s Gambit”; “La Casa De Papel”; “Shadow and Bone”; as well as “Too Hot to Handle,” the first game based on a reality Netflix franchise.

HBO Max canceled its first original series, “Made for Love,” after two seasons. “We are tremendously grateful for the truly spectacular journey of these past two seasons, courtesy of …the entire ‘Made for Love’ cast and creative team – especially Zelda the talking dolphin and everyone’s favorite synthetic love interest, Diane,” said HBO Max said in a statement. “Like a Gogol chip, the series will always be on our minds.”

Leah Remini (“The King of Queens”) is stepping in for Matthew Morrison (“Glee”) as a judge on Fox competition “So You Think You Can Dance.” Morrison was let go after contacting a dancer on the show, which was deemed a failure to adhere to production protocols. Morrison explained he was trying to help the dancer get a job as a choreographer.

Among the highlights at the Produced By Conference at the Fox Studio Lot was a discussion with JuVee Productions’ Viola Davis and Julius Tennon, who talked about why they started their own production company. “We created it out of necessity,” said Davis. “You want to see where your career is going, see where the top people are in your category, and I didn’t see anybody.”…Charles D. King, Founder and CEO of MACRO, noted the power of storytelling. “There’s real power in showing the full spectrum of our communities, the excellence of who we are, instead of the same marginalized stories,” he said. “And these stories are being told authentically now from our community.”…What kind of project piques the interest of Shondaland execs? “Shonda [Rhimes] and I have said for years the rule has always been we want to do something we haven’t done before in this world we haven’t lived in,” said Creative Partner Betsy Beers. “A gigantic factor for us is to play in a different playground. I’m not a big fan of what I call nihilistic storytelling – the story doesn’t have a point. The third thing I love is when I don’t know how it’s going to end.”

Google will pay out $118 million in a settlement to female employees for gender discrimination, reports Bloomberg. The deal, which must be approved by a judge, involves women across 236 job titles.

Adam Verdugo has been promoted from executive story editor to executive producer of the “CBS Evening News With Norah O’Donnell.” Verdugo will lead the broadcast from Washington, D.C. “Adam is an experienced, innovative leader with a proven track record of producing a wide-range of significant events and interviews for CBS News’ weekday programs as well as long form pieces and the reboot of Edward R. Murrow’s iconic franchise ‘Person to Person’ for the CBS News Streaming Network,” said Neeraj Khemlani, President and Co-Head of CBS News and Stations. “As we move into the midterms, his extensive experience booking and producing political coverage over the last decade will also be invaluable in continuing the ‘Evening News’’ momentum.”

CASTING

Paramount Network’s “Yellowstone” returns for season five with Kai Caster (“American Horror Story”), country music singer Lainey Wilson, Lilli Kay (“Your Honor”), and Dawn Olivieri (“1883”) joining the ensemble. Additionally, Mo Brings Plenty and Wendy Moniz Lynelle Perry) have been upped to series regulars. The new season launches on Sunday, November 13.

Peacock’s “Mrs. Davis” has some new cast members. Andy McQueen (“Station Eleven”), Ben Chaplin (“The Nevers”) and Margo Martindale (“Mrs. America”) have joined the the drama series from Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof.

The first group to board another Peacock series, from Jason Woliner (“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”), Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg and Caviar, are Roseanna Arquette (“Ratched”), Melinda McGraw (“Mad Men”), Frank Grillo (“Billions”), Dennis Haybert (“24”) and Dee Wallace (“ET: The Extraterrestrial”).

Landing series regular roles in Disney+’s “A Small Light,” which tells the story of a Dutch woman who risked her life to shelter Anne Frank’s family from the Nazis, are Amira Casar (“The Contractor”), Billie Boulet (“The Worst Witch”) and Ashley Brooke (“The Blacklist”).
