Fox‘s So You Think You Can Dance returned for season 11 on Wednesday with pop star Justin Bieber guesting. The show’s 1.6 rating among A18-49 was enough to win the 8p-10p timeslot, but even an appearance by the pop star couldn’t keep the competition series from slipping 16 percent over last year’s premiere in the demo.

Science Channel matched its highest rated month ever in P18-49 in May 2014, and delivered double digit growth in key demos. Outrageous Acts of Science in May averaged 239,000 P18-49 viewers and the May 2 premiere of Survivorman: Bigfoot averaged 328,000 P25-54 and 271,000 P18-49, helping drive the network to gains across key demos versus May 2013 that included a 22 percent boost in total viewers P2+, 22 percent in P25-54, 23 percent in M25-54, 21 percent in W25-54, and 20 percent in both Persons and M18-49.

Animal Planet‘s Blood Lake: Attack of the Killer Lampreys delivered 1.2 million P2+ viewers on Sunday, landing the net in sixth place in its time slot among all ad-supported cable nets among M25-54 (251,000) and number seven among P25-54 (511,000), excluding sports.

Nat Geo and Nat Geo WILD scored their best May ever in Prime across key demos, according to Nielsen. Nat Geo averaged 520,000 total viewers, the first time the net has averaged over a half million total viewers for the month of May, and a record 248,000 P25-54. WILD averaged 198,000 total viewers, up 17 percent, and 66,000 P25-54.

E! posted year-over-year gains in May among total viewers and in all its target demos. One key driver: returning series Total Divas, out-delivering year-ago programming across all key demos, up to 135 percent in total viewers (1 million), up 103 percent in W18-34 (252,000), and up 142 percent in A18-49 (628,000). Total Divas also ranks as a Top 5 ad-supported cable show on Sundays at 9p in W18-34 (number 3) and A18-34 (number 5).

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis: FOX won the most A18-49 viewers Wednesday with 1.6/5, according to Nielsen. The premiere of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance scored 1.7/6 to win 8p, followed by a 1.1/4 average for ABC’s The Middle and The Goldbergs. Fox’s Dance stayed on top at 9p with 1.7/5, versus a 1.3/4 average for ABC’s Modern family and The Goldbergs. NBC’s Brian Williams Report on Edward Snowden won 10p with 1.3/4; Univision placed second with 1.2/4 for Que Pobres Tan Ricos.
