05/10/19: CBS Sports sublicensed a slate of Big East basketball games

CBS Sports and the Big East Conference are partnering up on a new multi-year agreement to carry Big East men’s college basketball games on the CBS Television Network and CBS Sports Network. The deal runs through the 2024-25 season and comes through a sublicense agreement with FOX Sports, providing national exposure for 20 men’s regular-season basketball games per year, with at least two appearances for each of the 10 schools. CBS Sports will broadcast up to four games per season with the remainder airing on CBS Sports Network.
 
 
PROGRAMMING

Telemundo Deportes released its complete game broadcast schedule for the Women’s World Cup, which includes all 52 matches airing live, including 21 matches on Telemundo, doubling the 2015 coverage and marking the most-ever Women’s World Cup matches on Spanish-language television. Universo will telecast 24 matches with seven running exclusively air on the Telemundo Deportes app. Daily game coverage during the opening round will begin most days at 8:30a with select matches preceded by a 30-mins pre-game show. Telemundo Deportes’ anchor Ana Jurka returns as the official host, leading the pre and post-game analysis from Paris, alongside Carlota Vizmanos. Andrés Cantor will be part of Telemundo Deportes’ match commentary team alongside Manuel Sol while Copán Álvarez joins Viviana Vila and Sammy Sadovnik partners with Eduardo Biscayart.
 
Turner Sports delivers coverage of the PGA Championship with more than 100 hours of live action on deck across TNT, the PGA Championship suite of digital products and B/R Live. TNT’s live coverage will feature at least six hours of coverage on May 16 from 1-7p and an expanded window on May 17 from 1-7:30p. The network’s weekend programming on Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19, will include third and fourth round play from 11a-2p. TNT commentators will include host Brian Anderson, analysts Ian Baker-Finch and Billy Kratzert, with Amanda Balionis providing pre- and post-round interviews. Trevor Immelman will return as an on-course analyst. Next week’s coverage will tee off with the 2019 PGA Championship B/R on the Tee presented by Caesars Rewards on May 16, at noon. The PGA Championship’s official digital platforms, managed by Turner Sports will offer extensive coverage of the event including live streaming via PGA Championship LIVE. TNT will utilize Hawk-Eye Green Technology displaying live graphic overlays, along with Toptracer technology to display ball flight, curve, ball speed and trajectory on approach shots. GolfTrax will showcase a wide range of virtual animations that display yardages, ball locations and pin placements for every hole.
 
Speaking of Turner, the 2019 NBA Awards presented by Kia will see Shaquille O’Neal host this year’s event, on June 24, at 9p on TNT. This year’s NBA Awards on TNT will include the exclusive unveiling of the Kia NBA MVP, Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Kia NBA Rookie of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award, among other awards.
 
Rounding out the theme, TheWrap reports that All Elite Wrestling will announce a TV deal with Turner Sports at the WarnerMedia upfronts, with programming expected to run in primetime on Tuesday nights on TNT.
 
Ahead of NBC’s debut for the Indianapolis 500 on May 26, Tom Hanks is set to join Savannah Guthrie to cohost a special hour of NBC News’ TODAY, on May 23 live from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  The event will honor former Senator Elizabeth Dole’s Hidden Heroes organization while Hanks and Dole will sit down for a conversation with Guthrie in front of a live audience of military veterans and their caregivers. Al Roker will join Hanks and Guthrie with reports from the Speedway.
 
Bolstered by 34 one-goal games, 15 overtime contests, and four Game 7s through two rounds, the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs are setting national, local and digital viewership and consumption milestones for NBC Sports, according to Nielsen and Adobe Analytics. With round two in the books, NBC Sports is now averaging a Total Audience Delivery (TAD) of 1.073 million viewers across its platforms, making it the most-watched playoffs on record through two rounds. NBC Sports’ cable is averaging a TAD of 911,000 viewers, making it the most-watched cable delivery on record through the Second Round. Viewers have live streamed more than a half-billion minutes through two rounds, up 39% compared to the same time period last season.
 
Professional Fighters League announced international partnerships, with a lineup of over 150 countries that will have access to the MMA action. “We’re thrilled to grow our global reach and audience in just our second season through partnerships with premium sports networks around the world,” said Peter Murray, CEO of the PFL. “These partnerships allow us to provide thrilling, high quality, differentiated MMA action to the over 300 million fight fans globally. Our roster is reflective of how global the sport is. We have fighters from 15 countries who will be carrying their flags proudly to the cage. When fans tune in, they will see their nation represented, and will be able to watch in their native language. This only builds on their passion for the sport.”
 
FloSports announced its plans to provide live and on-demand coverage of thirty IIHF Men’s Ice Hockey World Championship Games airing exclusively on FloHockey.tv. FloHockey subscribers will have access to watch 30 of the 64 IIHF World Championship games, including two quarterfinals, featuring 16 countries, some of the world’s best hockey players, NHL players, and more as they compete to become the World Champions. In addition to FloHockey, NHL Network is the official U.S. TV home of the IIHF World Championship. Games will air between May 10 -21.
 
VSiN is teaming up with Anthem Sports & Entertainment in a move that will see VSiN’s sports betting show, A Numbers Game, now air live on Anthem’s Game+ channel in the U.S. and Canada each weekday morning from 9-11a. In addition to this daily show, Game+ and its sister channel GameTV will air VSiN’s weekly sports betting highlights show, Best of VSiN, in more than 9 million homes across Canada.

Genius Sports Group was named by Football DataCo as the data rights holder of all competitions organized by the Premier League, English Football League and Scottish Professional Football League and will serve as their official supplier of live data to the global sports betting sector. Through Betgenius, its sports betting division, Genius Sports Group will capture official live game data in-stadia at over 4,000 fixtures a season, and distribute it to hundreds of licensed sportsbook operators around the world in under a second.

The National Hockey League locked in its broadcast team for the 2019 NHL Gaming World Championship Regional Finals and World Final, tapping the talents of Arda Ocal and Andrew ‘Nasher’ Telfer for another go-around, while Faizal Khamisa – who hosted the Canadian Final last year – will host the European and Canadian Regional competitions. Newcomer Carley Johnston will make her GWC debut at the European Live Regional Final. A new 30-minute pregame show, The GWC Lobby – hosted by Amanda Soucy along with Gaming Expert Cole ‘TacTix’ Mogg – will debut ahead of the European Final on May 18, at 10:30a.
