The long-awaited season 3 of Netflix’s The Crown has a debut date – kind of. While the streamer fell short of revealing the precise launch date, in a letter to investors following its 1Q19 financial results, Netflix revealed the series would return after July.
Not only did the Game of Thrones final season premiere break ratings records for HBO on Sunday night in the U.S., it did the same in the UK on Sky. The British pay-TV platform garnered its largest overnight audience ever for Winterfell with the episode garnering a total audience of 3.4 million viewers.
Bernie Sanders’ town hall was a hit on Fox News, clocking the biggest crowd this election season to date. Sanders reached nearly 2.6 million viewers from 6:30 to 7:30p on Monday, including 489,000 in the news demo.
Netflix is bringing back its “FYSee” Emmy campaign activation. This year’s event, which takes place at Raleigh Studios from May 5 to June 9, includes Martin Scorsese, Bruce Springsteen, Oprah Winfrey and Ava DuVernay. Scorsese and Springsteen will be openers, while the closer will feature a conversation with Winfrey, DuVernay, the cast of their new limited series When They See US, and the real-life men on which the project is based.
Mario Lopez and Sheryl Underwood were named hosts for the 46th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, which will take place Sunday, May 5 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium; David Osmond will host the Daytime Emmy Creative Arts ceremony on Friday, May 3.

John Cusack will star opposite Sasha Lane and Rainn Wilson in Amazon’s Utopia. The straight-to-series adaptation of the British drama, written by Gone Girl author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn, follows a group of young adults who meet online and are hunted by a shadowy deep state organization.
John Legend, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorious’ Get Lifted Film Co. inked an exclusive three-year overall deal with ABC Studios, according to Deadline. The company is moving from Sony Pictures TV, where it had been under a first-look deal.
Starz began production of Outlander in Scotland. The show’s fifth season, based on material from The Fiery Cross, the fifth of eight books in Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling series, will play out over 12 episodes.
Veep may be ending its run, but the show’s Executive Producer-showrunner David Mandel is continuing at HBO. Mandel inked a three-year exclusive overall TV deal with the premium cabler to develop and produce series projects.
BYUtv ordered second seasons of family cooking competition show Dinner Takes All and multi-generational family game show Battle of the Ages to air this fall. Both series premiered in March.
Skydance Television partnered with The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization and Concord to develop an original series inspired by the Broadway musical Oklahoma! Written byJohn Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, The Highwaymen) and Bekah Brunstetter (This Is Us, American Gods), the present-day series, will be set in America’s heartland and include music by Rodgers & Hammerstein, reimagined for a contemporary audience, in addition to new music to support the story.
Vox Media acquired content studio Epic, the company’s first acquisition in the film and entertainment space. Vox Media will now move into scripted, while tapping Epic’s team to continue hunting down stories, bringing to life via the written word, and expanding them through podcasts, premium documentaries and TV.
CNBC is moving forward with a fifth season of Battle of the Blades, set to return this fall. The series mashes up athletes from two of Canada’s favorite sports, figure skating and hockey, in a live, high-stakes figure skating competition.
Disney Channel ordered a third season of Big Hero 6 The Series. The animated hit gears up for its second season premiere on Monday, May 6.
Spyglass Media Group, LLC secured Warner Bros. Pictures as a strategic investor. Through the partnership, Warner Bros. Pictures will have an equity investment in Spyglass as well as a first-look arrangement for content.

A&E Network’s new original series Hero Ink honors the work of first responders at a tattoo shop dedicated to commemorating their service. Twelve-episode series premieres Thursday, June 6 at 10p.
Christina Anstead (Flip or Flop) takes center stage in HGTV’s Christina on the Coast. Premiering Thursday, May 23 at 9p, series focuses on Anstead as she gives clients luxe spaces filled with distinctive design and SoCal style.
ABC News’ 1969 retells the story of the first moon landing. Docu-series bows Tuesday, April 23 at 10p on ABC.
Showtime’s The Loudest Voice, starring Russell Crowe as Fox News founder RogerAiles, bows Sunday, June 30 at 10p. Production is currently underway in NYC.
Wrestle premieres on Independent Lens on Monday, May 20 at 10p on PBS (check local listings). Series shares an intimate look at an Alabama high school wrestling team as they face challenges on and off the mat.
Los Espookys, HBO’s mostly-Spanish-language comedy from Fred Armisen and Lorne Michaels, premieres Friday, June 14 at 11p. Series follows a group of friends who turn their love for horror into a business.
COMING UP
After four seasons, BET’s Being Mary Jane concludes with a two-hour series finale film on Tuesday, April 23 at 8p. The movie, starring Gabrielle Union, boasts an all-star cast including Michael Ealy, Morris Chestnut, Lisa Vidal, Richard Roundtree, Margaret Avery, Richard Brooks, BJ Britt, Raven Goodwin and Nichols Gonzalez.
MTV, the network that launched modern reality TV with The Real World, is set to host the first-ever REALITYCON, a celebration of the genre. National Geographic debuts Rookie Moonshot: Budget Mission to the Moon on Thursday, April 25 at 9p. Special tells the story of a small company with a big dream to become the first to land a privately funded unmanned vehicle on the moon.

The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation announced the winners of the 44th Annual Gracie Awards. Winners of the Black Public Media’s PitchBLACK competition for broadcast programs, web series and virtual reality projects were announced Tuesday, with the criminal justice system serving as a common theme. Broadcast documentaries Commuted by Nailah Jefferson and The 3,000 Project by Keith McQuirter and LaNora William-Clark won $100,00; VR experience Points of View (POV) by Alton Glass and Donovan DeBoer were awarded $60,000; and Heroes of Color by David Heredia won $60,000.

DIGITAL DATA
Netflix released its first quarter earnings report on Tuesday, which revealed it recorded its highest quarterly paid net adds in history, with 9.6 million new subscribers. That was well above the 8.9 million net additional paid subscribers that the SVOD service had projected itself. The streamer has 148.9 million subscribers overall, with the growth breaking down as 1.74 million new subs in the U.S. and 7.86 million internationally.
Bluprint, NBCUniversal’s digital lifestyle learning platform and streaming service, expanded its home décor vertical with new original content that debuted on Tuesday including new kids and tweens room transformation series Rooming Up!, and season 2 of Blank Wall Overhaul, Ride or DIY, Design Infusion and Decorating 101.
The third season of TLC GO’s 90 Day Fiance: What Now? is available for streaming, returning with 21 new episodes. Show follows individuals featured previously in the 90 Day Fiance franchise as they continue to navigate their lives.
Cinedigm launched lifestyle network CONtv as a digital-first linear channel on streamer Pluto TV. Users will now have access to CONtv’s library of genre films, classic television series and original programming.

Amazon is preparing to start another music service that will be supported by advertising, reports Billboard. The service could be up and running by next week and would stream tunes via Amazon’s Echo speakers. By going after an ad-supported model, Amazon would be taking aim at Pandora and Spotify.
Adswerve announced that it is breaking down marketing silos with Google Cloud. Marketers looking for visibility into all of their marketing channels, including website, social, search and PPC, SalesForce, email and more, can do so using Google Cloud, says the company. With a complete picture in-hand, marketers can make predictions based on past buyer behaviors, focus on their most valuable target segments, and personalize their digital campaigns.
As the demand for mobile app advertising continues to grow, fraudsters are taking full advantage of new opportunities. New data from DoubleVerify, released on Tuesday, finds that mobile app sophisticated invalid traffic impressions have doubled year-over-year since 2017, while the total number of fraudulent apps has increased 159% from 2017 to 2018. Some 57% of fraudulent mobile apps are categorized as Games and Tools & Utilities.

Carl Jackson Motions Pictures Studios reached a multi-year global carriage distribution agreement with Globecast for its 24/7 linear networks CJC Network and TheGrid! The deal covers cable and OTT in all markets worldwide.
Short-form content app Flix Snip expanded its reach to the Russian mobile market, inking a new deal with mobile and telecom provider MegaFon. The pact makes the curated short form content service available to the service’s OTT, mobile and SVOD subscribers.
A content deal with VIZ Media makes Tubi the streaming home in Canada to three original Naruto movies – Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow, Legend of the Stone of Gelel, and Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom. In addition, the pact includes Seasons 1 and 2 of One-Punch Man.
Blue Ant International and Zeppelin Films inked an exclusive two-year first-look distribution deal giving Blue Ant format and distribution rights to all future content and includes Zeppelin’s two recently announced commissions Rich Kids Go Homeless and Respect Your Elders.

RATINGS
Syndication saw significant recovery from March Madness, scoring double digit increases in the session ending April 7. On the magazine front, Entertainment Tonight (2.9 Live+SD national Nielsen rating, up 12% from the week before) and Extra (1.1, up 10%) nailed the biggest percentage improvements, while Inside Edition (2.9, up 7%) landed in a tie with ET.
At the top of the entire chart Judge Judy (three-week high 6.8, up 1%) aired repeats on four of the five days, but still outperformed all shows in household ratings for a milestone 39 weeks in a row. Among talkers Dr. Phil (2.7, steady), also partially in reruns, was #1 in the category for a 135th consecutive week, while Live with Kelly and Ryan (2.3, up 10%) took second place for a sixth straight week over Ellen (1.9, up 12%), which returned to original shows after a week of encore episodes.
Hallmark Channel’s Saturday night original movie premiere Bottled with Love delivered a 2.8 HH rating and was the highest-rated and most-watched program of the week, excluding news and sports. The movie garnered 2.8 total viewers and 407,000 W25-54.
HGTV’s One of a Kind has delivered over 4.5 million viewers since its March 19 premiere. The home renovation series ranks as a top 5 program on HGTV among W25-54, as well as a top 5 cable program among upscale W25-54 in the Monday 10p time slot.
Univision’s Wednesday night episode of Por Amar Sin Ley averaged its highest audience levels in its current season with 1.3 million total viewers 2+, 576,000 A18-49 and 226,000 A18-34.
