At Google’s Cloud Next 2024 event, the company unveiled Google Vids, an AI-powered video creation tool that will be added to Google Workspace. “This is your video editing, writing and production assistant, all in one,” said Aparna Pappu, VP & GM at Google Workspace, introducing the feature. “We help transform the assets you already have — whether marketing copy or images or whatever else in your drive — into a compelling video.” Currently in limited testing, Google Vids will roll out to additional testers in June.

In a second security incident in two months, hackers compromised Roku user accounts. The company said about 576,000 user accounts were accessed via credential stuffing. “Earlier this year, Roku’s security monitoring systems detected an increase in unusual account activity. After a thorough investigation, we determined that unauthorized actors had accessed about 15,000 Roku user accounts using login credentials (i.e. usernames and passwords) stolen from another source unrelated to Roku through a method known as “credential stuffing,” said the company. In credential stuffing, fraudsters use stolen usernames and passwords from one platform and attempt to log into accounts on other platforms.

Showtime’s streaming service will be shut down on April 30. The move comes after Paramount Global launched Paramount+ With Showtime in June 2023.

Meta is testing putting Meta AI in the Instagram search bar for both chat with AI and content discovery. The query in the search bar leads users to a conversation in DM with Meta AI.

In more Meta news, the company announced steps it is taking to protect users from “sextortion.” Included is a nudity protection feature on Instagram in direct messages that blurs images detected as containing nudity. Users will be prompted to “think twice before sending nude images.” Nudity protection will be turned on by default for teens under 18.

Vizrt has enhanced its technical partnership with EVS. Previously, the combination of Vizrt’s flagship studio automation solution, Viz Mosart, and EVS XT and XS-series servers, provided broadcasters with control and flexibility for 24/7 seamless operation playout. The support now extends to the XS-NEO, EVS’s software defined server, aiming to deliver a solution for both ingest and automation-based playout. The new XS-NEO server from EVS empowers broadcasters to natively play multiple formats, including XDCam, and supports play from local high-performance RAID disks or directly from a facility’s central storage, streamlining workflow s for maximum efficiency.

Synamedia announced a range of new capabilities for its Quortex Play D2C streaming SaaS solution to securely deliver premium video content at scale, while lowering processing and CDN costs. “Since Synamedia’s acquisition of Quortex in July 2022, we’ve only accelerated our innovation in D2C streaming,” said Marc Baillavoine, CTO of Video Network at Synamedia. “We’ve merged the best benefits from cloud-native solutions and Synamedia’s legacy expertise in video software to build and continually evolve capabilities that will quickly and efficiently enable streamers to connect a bigger audience to premium content and events – with accelerated ROI.”

Innovid has launched Harmony Initiative, aimed at optimizing the CTV advertising ecosystem. AMC Networks updated the expansion of Audience+. The advanced insights and data targeting platform was introduced during last year’s upfront, allowing advertisers to map to specific target audiences across all distribution endpoints spanning linear television networks, streaming services and CTV/FAST platforms. “Audience+ is so much more than a powerful insights and data platform, it really represents the power and potential that comes with our converged inventory and our largest aggregated audience ever,” said Evan Adlman, EVP of Commercial Sales and Revenue Operations. “We now reach viewers through approximately 30 distribution endpoints, with the most advanced cross-platform buying capabilities in the industry. Audience+ brings it all together to aggregate audiences, identify viewer segments and deliver outcomes, regardless of where or when a viewer is consuming our great content.”

Vevo has partnered with KERV Interactive to bring new ad formats to Vevo’s CTV portfolio, including the Vevo TV app and 20 FAST channels. Advertisers on Vevo will now have access to KERV’s ad suite that enhances TV engagement via second-screen experiences, which can be tailored to a brand’s specific campaign goals. “By transforming ad breaks into natively embedded, customizable experiences, our partnership with KERV is complementary to our CTV programming,” said Rob Christensen, EVP, Global Sales at Vevo. “As Vevo continues to expand monetization efforts worldwide, we’re helping brands simplify the path to purchase and drive real-time, outcome-based connections between brands, consumers, culture and commerce.”

KERV Interactive has also partnered with sell-side advertising company Magnite, to deliver immersive advertising experiences at scale. Marketers can now layer KERV’s portfolio of AI-powered interactive and shoppable video capabilities across Magnite’s omnichannel inventory.

Vertex AI Agent Builder, a new tool to help companies build AI agents, had its moment at Google Cloud Next. Vertex AI Agent Builder allows people to “very easily and quickly build conversational agents,” said Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, adding that users can build and deploy production-ready, generative AI-powered conversational agents and instruct and guide them the same way that they do humans to improve the quality and correctness of answers from models. This is accomplished with a process called “grounding,” where the answers are tied to something considered to be a reliable source.

Cineverse is partnering with Gracenote, Nielsen’s metadata solution company, for its previously announced Cinesearch tool. The AI-powered search platform will leverage Gracenote’s TV and movie datasets in real time, including synopsis, genre, cast, director and other product information, to recommend films and TV shows available via a chatbot assistant named Ava. “Our partnership with Gracenote increases the number of films and TV shows that are discoverable by users and allows us to offer Cinesearch users the highest-quality title information with intensity rankings – when paired with a user’s viewing history, streaming service filters and content preferences – will help solve a major consumer issue and the leading cause of viewer frustration,” said Cineverse Chief Operating and Technology Officer Tony Huidor.

Quickplay is using Generative AI to give content programming teams increased ability to put relevant titles in front of viewers, with Curator Assistant. Building on Quickplay’s debut of its AI-powered Media Companion at IBC 2023, the Curator Assistant’s search capabilities enable creation of storefront rails that contain more titles that engage consumer interest, and can be programmed faster. “Programmers will no longer be limited by their own or licensed metadata – they can literally leverage the entire Internet, with conversational search, to program their service and drive more discovery opportunities that are personalized to the user or cohort,” said Paul Pastor, CBO and Co-Founder of Quickplay.

Fantix, a federated machine learning infrastructure to train AI models, has partnered with Sports Innovation Lab and The Newco to increase the accessibility of enriched first-party data. Sports Innovation Lab will leverage its proprietary Audiences dataset to train an AI model to enrich any customer database with privacy-safe data, beginning with detailed attributes of sports, media and entertainment enthusiasts. “In light of new cookie standards, many organizations are now in the dark when it comes to enriched first and third-party data, and lack the resources to create the full stack of data and cloud services necessary to adapt to this evolution in marketing,” said Jennifer Pelino, Chief Commercial Officer and President, Data Cloud at Sports Innovation Lab. “We’re partnering with Fantix to address this issue within a privacy-by-design setting compliant with new regulations.”

Sinclair will begin using AI for language translation beginning with “Petko Unfiltered,” a Tennis Channel series that offers first-person perspective on trending tennis topics. The episodes, which are recorded and presented by Tennis Channel in English in several European countries and on its second network T2 in the United States, will be translated into Spanish to air on Tennis Channel in Spain beginning later this month.

Codec Market, a cloud solution for efficient video encoding, introduced its service for professional video creators and distributors, Codec Market One. The service is the first AI-optimized video cloud acceleration solution, delivering the quality video at lower costs and lower bandwidth utilization.
