Chelsea Handler will leave E! At the end of the year when her contract expires as host of talker Chelsea Lately, says The Hollywood Reporter. The show has been on E! For eight years and Handler has made several public statements about her dissatisfaction with the network. She is reportedly considering a radio gig or another late night TV talk show.
ABC yanked Mind Games after five low-rated episodes. On Tuesday the drama, starring Christian Slater, drew just over 2 million viewers and .7/2 among A18-49. Resurrection will keep the 10p timeslot warm for season three of Celebrity Wife Swap, premiering April 15.
ABC is not bringing back struggling Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, either, describing the Once Upon a Time spin-off’s Thursday, April 3 at 8p ep as its series finale. A Shark Tank special will take its time slot April 10, with encores of Grey’s Anatomy to follow.
Veep is a little to close to the truth for comfort. Speaking at Paleyfest Thursday, the show’s exec producer, writer and director Armando Ianucci, said, "The worst piece of feedback we’ll get is when we actually think that we’ve come up with the most ridiculous story… and we do it, and then we get a call from Washington where they’ll ask, ‘How did you find out?’"
AMC‘s Turn has a fan in another ex-President, and the Revolutionary War-set spy drama hasn’t even launched yet. Former head of the CIA George H.W. Bush hosted a screening of the show in Houston, complete with cast members. Declaring it "brilliant," he did note one problem: "waiting till the next episode." Everyone else can catch the premiere Sunday, April 6 at 9p.
Josh Elliot is taking on sports full-time. Reports surfaced yesterday that the Good Morning America anchor is departing the show and will now join NBC Sports. Elliot, of course, has a long history with sports, having joined GMA from ESPN in 2011. At NBC, Elliott is expected to cover some of the company’s high-profile sports properties ranging from the NFL to the Olympics.
Piers Morgan signed off his cancelled CNN show, Piers Morgan Live, Friday night with an assault on "the absurd gun laws in America," as well a thank you to the audience, "even those who implacably disagreed with me, or just found my funny accent annoying." Morgan had made gun control the focus of numerous programs during Live’s three-year run.
Responding to a letter from Media Rights Capital VP Charlie Goldstein to Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley saying House of Cards would film in another state if Maryland the Netflix political drama didn’t continue to receive tax breaks, the state’s House of Delegates amended its budget language to allow it to seize MRC’s property if the show relocates. The state had reined in the amount of available tax incentives from $25 million in 2013 to $7.5 million.
BET launched its first brand app, BET NOW. The app, available for free on iPhone, iPod, iPad and Android devices, provides access to full episodes of current shows including The Game, Being Mary Jane and Real Husbands of Hollywood, as well as classic series.

Season two of Syfy‘s Defiance premieres Thursday, June 19 at 8p, followed by the 90-minute series premiere of its newest series, Dominion at 9p. Supernatural action drama Dominion is based on characters from the 2010 film Legion, set 25 years after the movie.

Investigation Discovery enters new territory – the great beyond – for a new special, Restless Souls. The true tale of a crime-solving psychic, the special "goes beyond the grave to investigate murder like ID has never done before," said Kevin Bennett, GM. "By crossing our signature true-crime programming with this paranormal investigation, we expand beyond the traditional crime-solving techniques." Indigo Films show premieres Monday, April 14 at 9p.
Syfy is bringing back Helix for a sophomore season. The drama, which wrapped up its first run on Friday, averaged 2.1 million total viewers, 1.1 million A25-54 and 1 million A18-49. Production starts later this year for a winter 2015 premiere.
Dual Survival made it to season four on Discovery, with two very different men forced to band together to stay alive in brutal terrain. "This may be the most demanding and shocking season yet," said Discovery exec producer Joshua C. Berkley, "and one of these men won’t finish what he started." Show premieres Wednesday, April 23 at 9p.
Maker Studios, soon to be acquired by Disney, announced a strategic partnership with Music Choice to that gives the multi-platform video and music net access to over 500 hours of Maker programming. "Music Choice is not only a video and music network, we are also a content provider," said Damon Williams, VP Programming. "We are always looking at new and innovative ways to reach our customers.’
Breakthrough Entertainment licensed Turkish film, A Handful of Sea to HBO Europe, as well as David Rocco’s Dolce India, Raw Opium, Return to Nepal, Shameless Idealists, The Future Revealed and The Pagan Christ to Chello Central Europe.
Michael Chiklis (The Shield) has joined the season four cast of FX‘s American Horror Story as the former husband of Kathy Bates‘ character. It’s a homecoming of sorts for Chiklis, a Lead Actor Emmy-winner for FX’s The Shield (2002-2008).
Dana Delany (Body of Proof) has been cast in Amazon Studios drama pilot Hand of God, opposite Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy).
Oscar nominee June Squibb (Nebraska) will guest on season two of Lifetime‘s Devious Maids as the mother of Susan Lucci‘s character, Genevieve Delatour. Show returns Sunday, April 20 at 10p.
NBC pilot Feed Me, about a dysfunctional family and their restaurant, has added Andrea Parker (Desperate Housewives) to the cast as a vengeful ex-wife.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast Patrick Brennan (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) as villainous Blackout. The ABC superhero drama airs Tuesdays at 8p.

All hands on deck: NCBUniversal and Ford launched the "Tonight Show Fingers on a 4×4" contest, with car dealers competing to sell Jimmy Fallon a truck. But it’s not a sales pitch that will win the host’s business – beginning today, March 31, 10 dealers from around the country will place a hand on a Ford F-150 King Ranch parked on the U.S.S. Intrepid in NYC; whoever keeps their mitt on the longest, sells Fallon the vehicle. The competition will be integrated into each night’s episode of the talk show, and exclusive video content will posted on the show’s web site. "Ford isn’t just an iconic American brand – it’s fun. They really get what Jimmy is doing on The Tonight Show," said Linda Yaccarino, president, advertising sales, NBCUniversal. "This is another example of how we’re teaming with our advertising partners to make content that our audiences genuinely enjoy."
Chevrolet is at the wheel as presenting sponsor for the "MTV Movie Awards Takeover," a five-day event featuring appearances by stars including Jonah Hill, Seth Rogan, Zac Efron and Scarlett Johansson. The Monday, April 7-Friday, April 11 stunt leads into the Conan O’Brien-hosted awards show Sunday, April 13 at 9p.
To generate buzz about its upcoming coverage of the Stanly Cup Playoffs, NBCUniversal is launching a campaign featuring members of NBC‘s and CNBC‘s news teams, covering the "Stanley Cup Stolen" story (Who Stole Stanley? #cupnappers). Fox‘s American Idol was third in its 9p time period in the demo, matching its series low, 1.9/5. The premiere of Fox’s Surviving Jack at 9:30p drew a soft 1.3/4.
On Wednesday, ABC Family‘s Melissa & Joey scored 7-week highs in A18-34 (468,000/.7 rating), W18-34 (310,000/.9), viewers 12-34 (580,000/.6) and F12-34 (402,000/.9), a 6-week high in A18-49 and 5-week highs in total viewers and W18-49, ranking as cable TV’s number telecast in the half hour in young women. At 8:30 p.m., Baby Daddy made it to 7-week highs in A18-34 (447,000/.7) and A18-49 (605,000/.5), a 6-week high in viewers 12-34 (553,000/.6) and 5-week highs in total viewers and W18-49 (401,000/.6).
The season two premiere of Starz‘s Da Vinci’s Demons on Saturday, March 22 drew 580,000 total viewers, down from 1 million for its season one debut last April. Add up all the airings from the weekend, though, and total viewers hit 2 million, down just 6 percent from last year’s number.
Thursday A18-49 Analysis: CBS won the most A18-49 viewers Thursday with 2.6/9, according to Nielsen. CBS’s NCAA game scored 2.0/7 to top 8p, versus 1.9/6 for Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen. The game was first at 9p with 2.9/9, followed by 2.6/8 for ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. ABC’s Scandal took charge at 10p with 3.1/10, with basketball coming in second with 2.6/9.

British director Derek Martinus died March 27, after suffering from Alzheimer’s. He was 82. Martinus’s credits included 26 episodes of BBC drama Dr. Who between 1965 and 1970.
British actress Kate O’Mara died March 30 after a short illness. She was 74. O’Mara appeared on BBC’s Dr. Who and Howard’s Way, as well as U.S. primetime soap Dynasty.
