NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS
 

Food Network celeb Duff Goldman (Ace of Cakes) has cooked up a YouTube channel with Collective Digital Studio focusing on food and desserts. The venture starts with two to three weekly shows, including one in which Goldman creates his signature, customized cakes for YouTube’s biggest stars, as well as how-to videos, snack hacks, pranks and baking fails. “Ace of Cakes was a huge success, and with that as a platform, I was able to grow my brand far beyond the television screen,” said Goldman. “As I continue my next chapter, I have that desire to reach new audiences with creative, interactive programming centered around food and cooking, and YouTube was the place I had to be.” CDS will work with Goldman to program and produce content for the channel.
 
… Another Food Network star’s new digital series launched yesterday. Ownzones premiered 10 Minute Meals With Aarti Sequeira, for $1.99 a month, with chef, host and author Sequeira dishing her cooking in ten original videos. Sequeira, the season six champ of The Next Food Network Star, is currently a judge on FN’s Guy’s Grocery Games.
 
Twitter officially launched its recently-acquired broadcast-streaming app Periscope yesterday. A direct competitor to Meerkat, the app that blew up at SXSW, Periscope boasts a few key differences: live broadcasts are archived, the broadcast upload and live audience syncs faster and it has the ability to line up a shot before broadcasting. As previously reported, Meerkat recently raised $12 million in a Series B round of funding led by Greylock’s Josh Elman and other unnamed investors.
 
Vice Media’s expanded deal with HBO, announced yesterday, gives Vice an even bigger presence on upcoming a la cart service HBO Now, with a Vice channel offering access to the company’s produced programming. The pact also calls for a new half-hour newscast to air on HBO 48 weeks per year, and 32 new specials through 2018.
 
Google’s first mobile game, called Ingress and developed by in-house gaming studio Niantic Labs, is being turned into a television series. Sean Daniel Co. (The Mummy and Syfy’s The Expanse) and Niantic Labs will produce.
 
Lakeshore Entertainment launched Off The Dock, a new full-service digital studio to finance, produce, acquire and distribute premium digital influencer-led content. The first film under the Off The Dock arm is feature Man Up, from YouTube moguls Justin Chon and Kevin Wu, to be digitally distributed with Supergravity Pictures. Lakeshore is currently in production on The Boy, a psychological thriller starring Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead), which will be released theatrically in the US through STX Entertainment.

Mediaocean announced partnerships with iSpot.tv, an analytics firm that tracks national TV ads and other digital activity in real-time, and social TV and social ad firm never.no. Mediaocean will deliver data from the two deals on its Optica platform to sync digital ads with TV ads in real time. “TV ad buyers deserve to know exactly where ads are running and how they are performing digitally, as the activity happens,” said iSpot.tv’s Vice President of Business Development Robert Bareuther.
 
Unruly rolled out Unruly Custom Audiences, employing Unruly ShareRank‘s 1.3 trillion tracked views over 250,000 consumer data points to target consumers most likely to experience a strong connection to a specific video. “With the launch of our emotional targeting capability, Unruly advertisers now know how, why, where and with whom their ads are resonating,” Unruly CEO Scott Button said.  “And, they can use Unruly’s distribution platform to optimize their digital video distribution on a creative by creative basis to reach and engage the sub-segments of their audience most likely to respond positively to the content.”
