Ryzen chips: While Intel is still a very big dog in the high-end computing space, this week’s release of AMD’s Ryzen CPU’s promise to shake up the market. According to PC World, the top-of-the-line Ryzen 7 processors contain eight cores, 16 threads, and price points that undercut the comparable eight-core Intel Extreme Edition by $500.
Forbes.com has launched a mobile site inspired by Snapchat, mimicking the look and feel of Snapchat Stories. Designed like an app, the mobile format, called Cards, lets readers swipe through stories, which display a large image and headline, as well as video, infographics or quizzes. When readers want to look at the full story, they swipe up to access the article.
In advance of Google’s Cloud Next conference in San Francisco, TechCrunch reports that the digital giant will acquire Kaggle, a platform that hosts data science and machine learning competitions. Kaggle, which has about 500,000 data scientists on its platform, was founded by Anthony Goldbloom and Ben Hamner in 2010.
Seeking to engage with more millennial audiences, Sinclair Television Group has launched a new free, over-the-air channel called TBD. It will be available via multicast, cable and streaming on over-the-top platforms like YouTube, Twitch, Vimeo and Daily Motion. Content will come from such sources as Jukin Video, Legendary Digital Networks (Nerdist & Geek and Sundry), Whistle Sports, Kinonation, Zoomin’ and Canvas Media Studios (Pemberly Digital), among others.
YouTube released a list of the top 10 videos viewed by women in 2016 and, not surprisingly, most of them deal with female empowerment, ranging from #1 “Unlimited You” from Nike, to Secret’s “Ladies’ Room – #StressTest.” One exception: the video that ranked #3, Nintendo’s Pokemon Super Bowl commercial.
Snapchat just launched a second season of its in-house political news show, Good Luck America, an attempt to help millennials make sense of what’s happening in politics (good luck with that). Former CNN correspondent Peter Hamby hosts.

Content discovery platform Taboola is expanding its personalized recommendation offerings to include the mobile app download space. Taboola will begin working with advertisers such as Match.com and InnoGames to drive app downloads based on the type of content people are viewing instead of their demographic identity, reports Adweek.
Nintendo’s Switch is selling even faster than its Wii so far. The gaming console doesn’t feature streaming content, but Nintendo America COO Reggie Fils-Aime tells The Washington Post the company is in talk with, among others, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, for services “that will come in time.”
While some publishers have struggled with Google’s Accelerated Mobile Pages, British newspaper The Guardian says 60% of its mobile traffic is via AMP. Digiday reports that the 60% figure compares with 10% to 15% AMP activity for most publishers. Click-through rates on AMP pages to non-AMP pages is 8.6% higher than on regular mobile pages.
Vimeo not only added support for 360-degree videos on Wednesday, it’s offering options to sell or rent experiences directly to viewers. Creators are allowed uploads of 360 videos up to 8K resolution, and get 90% of revenue after transaction costs. Not up to speed? Vimeo’s new 360 Video School will offer tutorials.
Almost 29% of U.S. homes have smart TVs and 23% have a streaming service, according to a study from Nielsen, and that’s leading to more cords being cut from traditional pay-TV distributors. “The penetration of these devices is increasing as is the time spent using them,” said the measurement company. “This combination is having a meaningful impact on how people view and engage with content on the TV set, and consequently is changing the ways in which media companies provide services.”

Canvs, the language analytics company that measures emotions around content, analyzed tweets about TV and streaming programming from March 1-7 using Twitter data from Nielsen. Insights from the 2,393,029 tweets expressing a specific Emotional Reaction (ER) include:
– 9.6% of viewers who sent congratulatory messages about something on TV were watching the iHeartRadio Music Awards on TBS, TNT and truTV.
– 11% of people who thought something they were watching was funny were tuned into Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta on VH1, with Kirk being the subject of much amusement.
– 3.7% of viewers who called something on TV beautiful were checking out Hallmark’s series When Calls the Heart.
– 5% of people who said they were scared while watching a TV show were tuned into the latest episode of The Walking Dead on AMC.

Digital video analytics software provider Tubular has hired one of Google’s top designers, Micheal Lopez, to take ownership of the entire Tubular brand experience across all user touch points. His background also includes stints at App Annie and Scribd.

In an interview with Gadgets 360, Arto Nummela, the CEO of Nokia parent HMD Global, outlines the company’s vision for the latest iteration of the nostalgia-inducing Nokia 3310.
