Social Media Audit: A social media audit is an examination of a person or organization’s social media presence. It’s designed to examine what’s working, what’s failing, and what can be improved across one’s social media channels. A thorough social media audit generally examines audience data and competitor activity.

TOP NEWS

A day after Snap Inc.’s IPO boosted the company’s market cap and made multi-billionaires of its founders, the Snapchat parent got some more good news. Comcast’s NBCUniversal announced that it has invested $500 million in the company. The move makes NBCU the only media company to have an official stake in the company. Snap’s stock climbed as much as 20% after the news. The company’s market cap now sits at over $31 billion.

Facebook’s quest for original content is intensifying, according to a new report from the Wall Street Journal. According to the Journal, the social media giant is reportedly soliciting pitches for TV-like programming in genres including sports, science, gaming, pop culture, lifestyle, and teens. The company is reportedly looking for weekly shows, with episodes that run about 30 minutes. Not coincidentally, Facebook is in the process of rolling out its TV app, which has already launched for Apple TV and Samsung Smart TVs. Facebook’s end goal is clear enough: Enticing marketers to redirect even more ad dollars from traditional TV to Facebook video content.

Woven Digital is gone – or at least, its name is. The digital media company has changed its name to Uproxx Media, adopting the name of its flagship website. The company, founded in 2010, is geared toward millennial males. Over the years, it’s acquired properties such as Dime Magazine, HitFix, and BroBible. (Dime and HitFix have since been folded into Uproxx.com.) The company has undergone some transition of late. In November, it named Ben Blank as its third CEO in just over a year. And last fall, the company laid off 20 staffers, saying that it was eliminating redundancies between the HitFix and Uproxx teams. But the company raised $18.5 million in a Series B funding round last summer and, according to comScore data, it saw 28% audience growth between November 2015 and November 2016.

ADVERTISING

HP has consolidated its global media assignment with Omnicom agency PHD. PHD was already serving as the tech giant’s traditional media agency; now it’s taking on HP’s digital assignment as well. Previously, WPP’s Essence was HP’s digital agency of record. If the past is any guide, Omnicom has plenty of reason for celebration. All told, HP’s reported ad spend for 2016 was $586 million – and $380 million of that went to digital.

PROGRAMMING + CONTENT ACQUISITIONS

NBCU isn’t the only company to put its faith in Snapchat. Over the weekend, iHeartMedia used the app to announce the winners of its 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards. Artists who weren’t included in the live telecast snapped ten-second acceptance speeches to fans throughout the day. You can learn more here.

OTT + SVOD

Amazon and Lionsgate have got their sites set on the world’s second-most populous country. The companies have reached an exclusive long-term deal to make Amazon Prime Video the exclusive SVOD service for Lionsgate titles in the Indian market. The deal covers films like Deepwater Horizon and Best Picture winner runner-up La La Land. The deal will also cover upcoming Lionsgate releases. Notably, those titles won’t even be available through Indian satellite or pay-TV services.
