Canadian production company New Media Centric (Letterkenny) is launching a U.S. division, reports Deadline. On the way is a drama based on Dr. Michael Arntfield’s book, Monster City, a series of crime thrillers based on books by Peter Edwards, and comedy Nobody Cares, from Canadian writer Anne T. Donahue.
Reality Distortion Field has gone to camera on Netflix series Warrior Nun in Malaga, Spain. Inspired by the manga series from Ben Dunn and adapted by creator/showrunner Simon Barry, Warrior Nun tells the story of a 19-year old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back.

True stories of suspicious deaths are covered in new Oxygen series, Accident, Suicide or Murder, premiering Saturday, March 23 at 7p. First up: the tragic death of a pastor’s wife is explored in an episode called “The Sinister Minister.”
CuriousityStream docu-series Speed takes off Thursday, April 18. Four-parter follows some of history’s greatest transportation breakthroughs.
D.C. drama is back with the return of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Potomac on Sunday, May 5 at 9p. Series moves to its permanent 8p timeslot on Sunday, May 19.
In Netflix interactive series You vs. Wild, debuting Wednesday, April 10, viewers will decide whether survival expert Bear Grylls succeeds or fails at adventure exploits. “I’m so proud to deliver this first-of-its-kind live-action interactive series, really giving viewers an all access pass to explore the world and its landscapes in my boots,” said Grylls.
Food Network is serving Rachael Ray’s 30 Minute Meals in a variety of portions. Starting Monday, April 1 at noon, the show will premiere a new episode each day throughout the month. Additionally, select episodes will be available across all platforms and the Food Network app beginning March 29; weekly real-time episodes will premiere on Facebook, commercial-free on the first four Mondays of April; FoodNetwork.com’s daily recipe newsletter will feature a Rachael Ray recipe; and the celebrity chef will host Facebook Lives day of the premiere and throughout the season.
COMING UP
Charm City, following a group of police, citizens and community leaders trying to stem the tide of violence in Baltimore, premieres on PBS’s Independent Lens on Monday, April 22 at 10p (check local listings). Doc was filmed over a three-year period.
GMA’s Robin Roberts will host ABC’s opening night presentation of the 2019 NFL draft, live from Nashville on Thursday, April 25 at 8p. “Robin is a natural storyteller who always elevates coverage of big events, which makes her ideally suited to host ABC’s opening night of the NFL Draft with our ‘College GameDay’ team,” said Stephanie Druley, EVP, Event and Studio Production, ESPN. “Our presentation will give fans a closer look at the experiences of the athletes and their families as they accomplish the dream of making it to the National Football League.” ABC will air all three nights of the draft live in prime time, in addition to coverage on ESPN and NFL Network.
American Idol kicks off live performances and America’s vote starting Sunday, April 14 at 8p on ABC. The season’s first all-live performance show airs the following night, and the schedule continues with live shows on Sundays only for five consecutive weeks.

Comcast sibs NBCUniversal and Sky announced the expansion of AdSmart’s ad solutions, merging NBCU’s Audience Studio advanced targeting solutions and Sky’s addressable advertising tools. “The world is getting smaller, and the opportunity for international marketers to make an impact with consumers is getting bigger,” said Linda Yaccarino, NBCU Chairman of Advertising and Partnerships. “The industry has demanded a global premium video offering, and now, one will finally exist.”
Ad sales company NCC Media is adding digital buying, allowing it to deliver cross-screen campaigns. “Digital advertising is an important component of our clients’ marketing mix,” said Nicolle Pangis, CEO of NCC Media, adding that the launch supports the company’s strategy of expanding the platform NCC built for the TV world to handle more of their clients’ media comprehensively. “The new capabilities bring increased precision to brand marketing while greatly simplifying the way advertisers manage and monitor consumer narratives across the entire consumer journey,” said Pangis. NCC Media is owned by Comcast, Charter Communications and Cox Communications.

Hulu’s ad revenue will jump 25% this year, to $1.82 billion, and rise by 23% in 2020, to $2.24 billion, projects eMarketer, doubling the previous estimate. A price cut for its ad-supported service Is expected to increase subscribers and boost ad revenue.
The season two trailer for La Reina del Sur broke Telemundo’s record, with 8.1 million views in its first week across all digital platforms, according to Adobe Analytics and Shareablee. The official trailer was released last week.
Something old, something new: Among the offerings that start streaming on Acorn TV on April 1 are 2018 docu-series A Stitch in Time, examining figures from the past through the clothes they chose to wear for their portraits; and seasons one and two of courtroom drama Rumpole of the Bailey, first launched on PBS in 1978.

There’s a strong need to clarify not only what a Customer Data Platform is and isn’t, but also how they can deliver value to marketers, according to Winterberry Group’s new research, “Deconstructing Customer Data Platforms: Myth vs. Reality.” While more than 100 companies describe themselves, or are described by others, as a CDP, fewer than 20 are true CDPs, according to Winterberry’s definition, which is: Platforms that are able to ingest and integrate customer data from multiple sources; offer customer profile management; support “real-time” customer segmentation; and make customer data accessible to other systems. “Customer Data Platforms have emerged as a solution for the ever-growing speed, volume, variety and governance requirements of customer data,” said Michael Harrison, managing director at Winterberry Group. “Unfortunately, the market is rife with confusion and misconceptions about CDPs’ capabilities.”
MySpace announced that “as a result of a server migration,” photos, videos and audio files that users uploaded more than three years ago may no longer be available. While the social media platform has been eclipsed by Facebook and Twitter since its heyday, when it was purchased for $580 million by NewsCorp. In 2005, it is still used as an archive. There have been complaints for several months that links on the platform weren’t working.
Sony’s PlayStation Vue is expanding its multi-view feature, allowing users to simultaneously watch three programs at once, to Apple TV subscribers. Sony also said the multi-view feature on PS4 is getting two updates: real-time program changing, and new filters.

The solution, being demonstrated at the NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference today through March 21, is a compact low profile pole or wall mountable unit based on an integration of ADLINK’s AI Edge Server MECS-7210 and Charles’ SC102 Micro Edge Enclosure and is suited for outdoor telecom use cases, enabling carriers and communities to provide a wide range of new and advanced services, including autonomous vehicles/pods, virtual and augmented reality applications, vision analytics with additional AI/ML/DL applications.
Pixelworks, provider of visual processing solutions, announced that Black Shark’s newest gaming smartphone, the Black Shark 2, incorporates the Pixelworks Iris visual processor for a more immersive mobile gaming experience. In addition to Super Cinema Mode, based on Pixelworks TrueClarity MEMC (motion estimation, motion compensation) technology, the Black Shark 2 introduces Pixelworks’ multi-adaptive display modes, which preserve Black Shark’s visuals across all mobile conditions by optimizing the appearance of the display for the brightness and tone of the ambient lighting environment.
A preliminary study from Stanford, funded by Apple, found that wearables can identify heart irregularities. Of the participants who received irregular pulse notifications, one third followed up with an ECG patch and were found to have atrial fibrillation. The study included only Apple watches.
DISTRIBUTION
Entertainment Studios acquired prison drama Up North for global distribution. Entertainment Studios will finance and distribute eight one-hour episodes of the gritty drama series to launch the first season.

UK’s Drive will distribute two-part documentary series Tata – Escobar’s Widow. Produced by Canada’s Telegramme Media in collaboration with drug lord Pablo Escobar’s son Juan Pablo, the series features interviews with Victoria Eugenia Henao as she breaks her silence of 25 years.
