CBS will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for “Largest Ever TV Drama Telecast” with a worldwide airing of the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episode that served as the planted spin-off for CSI: Cyber. On what the net dubs “World CSI Day,” the show will air in over 150 countries at 7p and stream on CBS.com from 4p-12a. CSI: Cyber, the fourth series in the CSI franchise, makes its debut on CBS at 10p. “CSI blazed a trail when it introduced the world to ‘feature’ television with its unique storytelling and innovative production values,” said Nina Tassler, chairman, CBS Entertainment. “This groundbreaking show introduced the field of forensics into the cultural zeitgeist, and it’s a tribute to the vibrancy of the franchise that 15 years later, it can evolve yet again.” Show to beat: Doctor Who, broadcast in 98 countries in 2013.
Score one for net neutrality: The FCC voted 3-2 Thursday to regulate broadband Internet service as a public utility. “The Internet is too important to allow broadband providers to make the rules,” said FCC chairman Tom Wheeler. “We finally have legally sustainable rules to ensure that the Internet stays fast, fair and open.” But the fight’s not over. “Overzealous government bureaucrats should keep their hands off the Internet,” said House Speaker John Boehner, vowing lawmakers would work to stop the FCC’s “misguided scheme.”

Broadway Systems, provider of advertising management software, announced a partnership with placemedia, programmatic planning and buying solution for linear television. What do networks need to understand about programmatic? “Programmatic buying can provide unrated networks the opportunity to be aggregated together with other networks as a strategy to attract more national advertisers than a single unrated network might be able to do on their own,” James Ackerman, Executive Chairman, Broadway Systems, tells Cynopsis. “For rated networks, programmatic platforms can help clear unsold inventory or enable the programmatic platform to sell against an alternative demographic (i.e. M35+ in a late night block) than that presented by the network itself (i.e. W25-49 for all other dayparts).”
Confused? The programmatic selling and buying of advertising is still a relatively new tool. If you’re a buyer, seller or client, programmatic advertising is changing the way you do business and it’s only going to evolve further. The March 18 What You Need to Know Now About Programmatic Ad Buying webinar will provide basic tools and tips when it comes to programmatic. Sign your team up here.
