Vevo and American Idol are teaming up for the first time to create a digital series called Idol Insider. YouTube musician Sam Tsui will host the series and preview the upcoming episode of this season’s American Idol every Monday, as well as feature exclusive interviews with mentors and judges. The show will be available on Vevo’s free apps for mobile devices, on Vevo.com and through partner networks like AOL, Yahoo And YT.
Sony’s entertainment network Crackle is now available on the PlayStation Vita handheld game console. PS Vita users can watch Crackle’s movies, TV and original series for free, including its Jerry Seinfeld’s hit, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
Disney launched the new Disney Movies Anywhere iOS app yesterday, which allows users to watch Disney, Marvel and Pixar films on the go. The integrated iTunes service offers more than 400 titles, and gives parents the ability to filter movies by MPAA ratings for their children’s use. Disney is currently in a multi-year deal with Netflix as the only streaming service to offer new films from the company.
The Xbox One will finally have the game-play streaming app Twitch on March 11, with new features to live stream video games and join other broadcaster’s games. This updated version of the app differs from the PlayStation 4 version that only allows Twitch users to observe another person’s game. The app recently hit one million users broadcasting each month during prime time hours, according to a DeepDield study.
Blackberry is apparently wishing for a $19 billion buyout for its messaging service BlackBerry Messenger, too, according to a recent statement from CEO John Chen about the Facebook and WhatsApp deal. Chen also mentioned to Bloomberg that BBM needed to build its user base and "innovation model" before they could consider selling in general. BlackBerry rolled out a new heightened security encrypted version of BBM at the Mobile World Congress yesterday.

Dannon is using a text-to-win campaign for the first time via a mobile campaign with The Lego Movie that specifically targets Hispanic families. The brand is offering consumers a chance to win a tour of the Warner Bros. studio with its line of Danimals Greek Yogurt Superstars, and is specifically being promoted in Southern California.

Twitter will now feature Promoted Accounts at the top of its search results as another way to reel in advertisers and marketers. "We automatically select relevant search queries for presenting Promoted Accounts based on an advertiser’s targeting choices, so no additional action is required for your business to access this capability," Twitter’s product manager Nipoon Malhotra said in a blog post yesterday about the change, which also presents recommended people to follow with the search results. Twitter revealed 90 percent of its revenue comes from advertising in its earnings call earlier this month.

TiVo founders Mike Ramsay and James Barton reinvented how TV was watched with its recording device, and now they are trying to find a solution for web TV services with Qplay. The new TV box and cloud service turns an iPad into a remote to pick out what video to watch from playlists called Qs, which are based on chosen topics and streaming services, selections made by Qplay staff and what videos Facebook and Twitter friends are sharing, according the Wall Street Journal. Currently, Qplay only features content from YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter and Facebook. Qplay will need to add the likes of Netflix, Hulu and Amazon to the mix to truly become a competitor with other set-top-boxes.
Defy Media released the Acumen Report: Brand New Man, which studied 2,000 men as consumers and what drives them to initiate a new "brand relationship." Some of the key takeaways include:
- 27 percent of men get information from a mobile device while at a store, and 31 percent read online reviews and 26 percent watch a YouTube video while researching a product.
- On average, 41 percent of men 18-34 used online reviews to research a new brand compared to the 21 percent in the 35-49 age bracket.
- 26 percent said they have shared opinions or recommendations on Facebook and Instagram, and 19 percent used Twitter to do so.

APCO Worldwide has hired Danielle Leach as its new Senior Director for Corporate Communications. Previously, Leach was head of communications for mobile commerce at Ericsson and former head of corporate communications and public affairs for emerging markets at Google.
Dstillery announced it has created new roles and hired Cole Boyle as Director of the Southeast, Catherine Mietek as Product Marketing Director and Danielle Tate as Senior Account Executive.
