Good morning. It’s Monday February 2, 2015, and this is your first early morning digital briefing.
Sasha Spielberg and Emily Goldwyn (Steven Spielberg and John Goldwyn’s daughters) are starring in the first Snapchat original series called Literally Can’t Even. Written by the duo, the show revolves around comedic versions of Spielberg and Goldwyn and their fictional life in Los Angeles. As part of the new Discover feature on the app, Snapchat premiered the series on Jan. 31 on the Snap Channel with a new episode out every Saturday. In line with the app’s current format, episodes disappear after 24 hours.
Speaking of Discover, another company premiered a new series for the platform: Funny or Die’s news roundup You’re Welcome. Hosted by comedian Brandon Wardell, the first ep (out of 12) on the Snap Channel featured Super Bowl halftime performer Katy Perry and trending game day commercials. Subsequent eps will be available each Friday.
Aziz Ansari’s new stand-up special, Live From Madison Square Garden will hit Netflix exclusively on March 6. Ansari’s first Netflix special, Buried Alive, was released in 2013. He was one of the first comedians to self-distribute his work online through the platform VHX.
Vine launched a kid-friendly version of its platform on Friday. Vine Kids will be free of any content that requires consent to view, and allows kids to swipe right or left to see Vines and hear quirky sounds. “One of my colleagues was talking about how much his two-year-old daughter loves Vine – he said he wished there was a separate app she could use to more easily watch posts that are appropriate for kids,” Vine’s Head of Communications and Marketing Carolyn Penner said in a blog post on Friday. Voila! The app is currently available for iOS devices.

On Friday, Crackle finally released its hacker-themed movie, The Throwaways, after the original premiere date was pushed back due to Sony’s real-life hack in last November. The film stars Sam Huntington, Kevin Dillon and James Caan, and revolves around a hacker who’s captured and recruited by the CIA to hunt down a cyber-terrorist.
AwesomenessTV’s first feature, Expelled, landed on Netflix yesterday. The movie topped iTunes for four weeks after its release in December last year. Cameron Dallas and other social media celebs – Andrea Russett, Lia Marie Johnson, Marcus Johns, Michelle Glavan and Teala Dunn – star in the film. It was first available online at ExpelledMovie.com, Google Play, Amazon, Target Ticket, Walmart and Vimeo on Demand. Expelled was produced by ATV’s founder Brian Robbins and Shauna Phelan.
People Now, the daily live online show presented by Toyota on People.com, announced that Casey Wilson (Marry Me), Joshua Malina (Scandal), The Backstreet Boys, Shawn Bullard (Match Made in Heaven), Jenny McCarthy (Donnie Loves Jenny), Jeff Perry (Scandal), Aja Naomi King (How to Get Away with Murder), Ryan Reynolds (The Voices) and others will make guest appearances this week. The 20-minute program offers interviews, entertainment updates, and human-interest stories Monday-Friday at 8:30a ET and 11:30a ET online.

AppLift hired Gal Levenhaim as Vice President of Products and Maor Sadra as Vice President of Strategic Developments. Levenhaim was formerly Vice President of Products at Taptica, and Sadra was with Matomy and Inneractive.
Julia Loranger was promoted to West Coast Sales Director for Playwire. She was previously Senior Account Executive at Playwire, and held roles at Ubisoft and Miniclip.
DIGITAL SPOTLIGHT OF THE DAY
T-Mobile created a digital-only Super Bowl ad to run during the live stream of the big game. The wireless carrier was the sole brand of the 17 participating in the live stream to produce a dedicated commercial rather than simply repeating what was broadcast. The reasoning? T-Mobile reps told the Wall Street Journal that it’s all about marketing to its younger and more tech-savvy (and likely to stream content) consumers. NBCUniversal offered an 11-hour free digital video stream of the SB on Sunday, allowing even those without a pay-TV subscription to catch the game on its TV Everywhere app. Check out T-Mobile’s Data Vulture commercial at www.cynopsis.com/#video.
