Google responded to claims made about Privacy Sandbox in a report by the IAB Tech Lab. Google maintains the analysis contains inaccurate information and overlooks the goal of Privacy Sandbox to improve user privacy while still enabling effective digital advertising. The report said Privacy Sandbox could make it more difficult to serve effective ads, and negatively impact smaller brands and media companies. While Google applauded IAB Tech Lab’s mission to develop digital advertising standards, the company stated, “In our view, the analysis contains many misunderstandings and inaccuracies, which we consider important to correct in order to provide accurate information to the ecosystem.”

OpenAI introduced Sora, a generative AI model that creates videos from text. Sora has a deep understanding of language, enabling it to accurately interpret prompts and generate compelling characters that express vibrant emotions,” said an OpenAI blog post. “The model understands not only what the user has asked for in the prompt, but also how those things exist in the physical world.” Acknowledging that OpenAI can’t predict all the ways people will use or abuse the technology, “We’ll be engaging policymakers, educators and artists around the world to understand their concerns and to identify positive use cases,’ said OpenAI. “We believe that learning from real-world use is a critical component of creating and releasing increasingly safe AI systems over time.”

News-forward platform Hedgehog, built with an innovative AI-supported system to promote conversation and civil debate, has launched with the motto “Real Conversations, Real Community.” The platform’s design is aimed at encouraging people to read the news without source bias. “We want Americans to have a place where meaningful discourse is possible.” said John Matze, founder and CEO of Hedgehog. “Hedgehog puts the community in charge. We will foster productive conversations that result from respectful individuals intentionally engaging in thoughtful discussions around today’s news events.” Matze, co-founder Jared Thomson and their executive team previously founded, built, managed and scaled social network Parler.

Walmart is exploring a deal to buy Vizio for $2 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal. Acquiring the smart TV manufacturer and ad platform could put Walmart in a more competitive position with Roku and Amazon’s Fire TV.

Despite women comprising 47.5 percent of the total Super Bowl audience, the highest proportion ever recorded, the percentage of ad impressions served to female viewers on Meta platforms dropped. That’s according to data intelligence Tracer, which says the change in behavior suggests female viewers, traditionally more active on social media during the event, appear to have diverted their attention more towards the live game itself. “As women’s engagement with traditionally male-dominated events, such as the Super Bowl, continues to grow, the opportunity for advertisers to forge meaningful connections with this audience hinges on their ability to move beyond stereotypical portrayals,” says the report. “Developing advertising that genuinely reflects the diversity of its viewers, not only responds to the demand for more inclusive and accurate portrayals but also establishes new benchmarks for authenticity in advertising.”

What’s the media value of brands appearing on camera during the Super Bowl? Relo Metrics used its AI/computer vision analysis platform to look at brand visibility inside and outside the stadium. Some takeaways include:
· Nike’s jersey partnership accounted for 60% of sponsored exposures during Super Bowl LVIII.
· State Farm’s Halftime Report netted the brand $16 million in media value.
· Allegiant branding on the stadium (part of their regular season naming rights deal with the Las Vegas Raiders) generated $7.3 million, and 81% of value for Allegiant was generated through interior signage that was often clearly exposed before kickoffs, during punts and after touchdowns.
· Las Vegas hotels received $4.1 million in media value from aerial shots during the Super Bowl.
· Verizon’s takeover of the Las Vegas Sphere during the broadcast generated $2.5 million in media value in one exposure for the brand.
· The full media value potential of Chiefs-owned social accounts during Super Bowl weekend was $10.6 million, which increased by $3.5 million from last season.

One in three advertisers consider addressable advertising a must-buy, marking an 11% increase from the previous year, according to DirecTV Advertising’s 2024 Annual Addressable Report. Additional findings include:
· Advertisers are turning to addressable advertising to drive better return on investment – 92% reported that their investments in data significantly improved their ability to segment audiences last year.
· Two in five advertisers purchased addressable advertising to help meet their goals on linear TV last year.
· 73% of advertisers express satisfaction with addressable advertising’s ability to extend reach on linear TV. Collaboration between CTV and linear teams on campaign reporting has increased significantly, with 90% of teams now at least collaborating.
· 78% of advertisers report that buying addressable TV has made their jobs easier, representing a substantial increase from previous years.
· 90% of distributor addressable buyers plan to retain or increase spending in 2024.
· 94% of addressable CTV buyers plan to retain or increase spending in 2024.

Direct Digital Holdings and Orange142 announced that SHE Media, the lifestyle media group that includes SheKnows, Flow Space, StyleCaster, Soaps and BlogHer, has selected Colossus SSP as a new supply-side platform partner. “The tens of millions of women that visit SHE Media properties and engage with its content are a tremendous asset to advertisers across category sectors,” said Mark D. Walker, CEO and Co-Founder, Direct Digital Holdings. “Not only do women represent more than half of the U.S. population, they are responsible for 85 percent of the day-to-day spending decisions and 80 percent of all healthcare choices for the family. STREAMING

Cineverse announced the upcoming launch of cineSearch, an AI-powered movie search platform, including an AI-based video advisor known as “Ava.” The search feature will utilize the first proprietary movie industry-specific AI model specifically tuned with an extensive set of metadata with support for search dimensions such as theme, tone, mood, setting, music score, plot, micro-genre, and more for films available across all streaming services. “Effective search and discovery is currently the most pressing problem for users of streaming services today,” said Tony Huidor, Chief Technology Officer & Chief Operating Officer of Cineverse. “We first developed cineSearch as an answer to our own problem. Using Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform, we now have the ability to expand this feature well beyond our initial expectations.” The public beta of cineSearch will be available within the Cineverse streaming platform in spring 2024.
