Meta’s Instagram and Threads will no longer recommend political content from accounts users don’t already follow. “We want Instagram and Threads to be a great experience for everyone,” said a company blog post. “If you decide to follow accounts that post political content, we don’t want to get between you and their posts, but we also don’t want to proactively recommend political content from accounts you don’t follow.”

BetMGM inked a deal with X to become the platform’s exclusive live-odds betting partner. X will integrate BetMGM’s odds data and branding, and each game will link to BetMGM’s website and app to allow users to place bets. “Sports never sleep on X and now with our strategic partnership with BetMGM, fans are practically in the front row,” said X CEO Linda Yaccarino. “We’re bringing sports fans on X even closer to the action so they can cheer, and now bet, on their favorite teams.”

Google’s Bard technology has been rebranded as Gemini. And Google has introduced two new experiences, Gemini Advanced and a mobile app, to enable users to easily collaborate with Google AI. Gemini Advanced – more capable at highly complex tasks like coding, logical reasoning, following nuanced instructions and collaborating on creative projects – is available as part of the new Google One AI Premium Plan for $19.99/month.

Bluesky has gone from invite-only to open to the public. The micro-blogging platform founded by Jack Dorsey has a decentralized structure that offers transparency, as well as the opportunity for developers to write their own code on top of the AT protocol.

IAB Tech Lab’s analysis of Google’s attempt to eliminate third-party cookie-based tracking with its own “Privacy Sandbox” identified several key issues. Among the findings: Sandbox only temporarily supports essential event-based impression and click counting; introduces brand safety concerns; uses ad exchange and ad server in the Chrome browser which forces a re-tooling of the programmatic ecosystem; and it lacks consideration for commercial requirements. “Our findings highlight that the industry isn’t ready yet and identify multiple challenges to implementation due to limitations in accomplishing key advertising objectives,” said IAB Tech Lab CEO Anthony Katsur.

Broadband consumption is on track to approach or surpass 700 GB per month by the end of this year and a Terabyte within the next five years, according to the latest edition of the OpenVault Broadband Insights report. Average monthly broadband usage surged above 600 GB for the first time in 2023, ending the year at 641 GB per month and extending a multi-year trend of 9%+ annual increases in consumption. OVBI projects that continued growth at the same pace would push the average per subscriber amount of data consumed past the 1 TB per month mark by the end of 2028.

Sinclair Broadcast Group has reached an agreement to integrate Futuri’s AI-driven sales system, TopLine, into its 186 owned and/or operated television stations in 85 markets across the country. TopLine combines AI technology with sales research and data-driven presentations, allowing sales teams to extend into new categories and reach new types of buyers. “This technology not only equips our sales team with cutting-edge tools and a competitive edge to engage new advertisers, but it also empowers them to spend more quality time with our clients, enhancing our relationships and driving our sales strategy forward,” said Sinclair Inc. SVP and CRO Ryan Moore.

FreeWheel has launched Beeswax Inventory Desk, which functions as an inventory curation service, matching buyer demand with premium video ad inventory supply. “We know that friction, complexity and fragmentation are key challenges that buyers and sellers across the TV advertising ecosystem face today,” said Matt Clark, VP, Strategic Partnerships, FreeWheel. “And so, one of the ah ha moments behind this service was, ‘How can we make the TV ad buying process simpler, better and with fewer headaches for all so that advertisers’ dollars can work harder and viewers can enjoy a more improved ad experience?’ It is our hope that this new offering will help create a win-win across the TV ad ecosystem.”

Goodway Group announced its first, video-only partnership for premium video ad inventory with FreeWheel. “As the TV advertising ecosystem continues to fragment and evolve, we sought a partner with a steady commitment to infusing simplicity, transparency and innovation,” said Andrea Kwiatek, Director, Partnerships, Goodway Group.

Clinch now has the ability to extend its workflow automation and omnichannel creative personalization capabilities to audio channels. Advertisers can seamlessly serve campaigns across multiple audio publishers and platforms through a single campaign setup and ad tag designed to auto-render assets that match each publisher’s requirements. “As trends start to shift to audio-based consumption, advertisers need to modify their approach to effectively speak to their audience across these channels,” said Oz Etzioni, CEO of Clinch.

Teads struck a partnership with VIDAA, the Smart TV operating system company powering Hisense Smart TVs, to extend advertiser reach with CTV native display inventory on its smart TV OS. The direct-to-glass offering is now available to brands and agencies in the US, UK, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Australia, and Canada.


ESPN, FOX and Warner Bros. Discovery have agreed to form a joint venture to build a new platform to house a streaming sports service. The platform brings together the companies’ portfolios of sports networks, certain direct-to-consumer (DTC) sports services and sports rights – including content from all the major professional sports leagues and college sports. The formation of the pay service, subject to the negotiation of definitive agreements amongst the parties, is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2024, and will be made available directly to consumers via a new app.

Amazon’s Freevee is launching a TMZ FAST channel as well as 17 new local news FAST channels from Fox in February.

24/7 music video programmer Vevo has launched six free linear-programmed channels on Sling Freestream: “Vevo Pop,” “Vevo Country,” “Vevo 70’s,” “Vevo 80’s,” “Vevo Latino,” and “Vevo Features.”

Cineflix Rights and Pluto TV have launched FAST channel Real Disaster in the US and Canada, anchored by global hit series “Mayday: Air Disaster” (now in its 24th season) as well as shows like “Deadly Disasters,” “Rogue Earth,” and “Dangerous Flights.” The Real Disaster Channel is the latest of five FAST channels launched by Cineflix Rights on various platforms over the past nine months.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment and Swirl Films have formed a joint venture to relaunch the AVOD service FrightPIX as a FAST channel and YouTube channel, and offer it through other connected platforms. Under the terms of the deal, CSSE will provide content from its Screen Media Ventures division, including horror films.

Mansa, the streaming platform for Black culture inspired content, has expanded its relationship with Roku with the launch of Mansa Mix, its first FAST channel, which is now available on The Roku Channel. Mansa Mix is a live, linear channel delivering a curated selection of films and television series. In addition to the new linear channel, the Mansa streaming service is also available through the Roku platform.


The Interactive Advertising Bureau and the Media Rating Council released a set of measurement guidelines for calculating the audiences of advertising in augmented reality. “The Augmented Reality advertising market is projected to generate $1.2 billion in revenue in the U.S. this year,” said IAB Vice President-Experience Center Zoe Soon. “As an industry, we need to establish a greater consistency on how we define and measure AR advertising to foster fairness and transparency for buyers and sellers.” The guidelines set parameters for new augmented reality advertising experiences, including:
· Rewarded AR ads
· Virtual try-ons
· Dynamic experiences masks
· Interactive world views
· Interactive 3D objects
· Portals/gateways
· Static filters

The guidelines are open for public comment until March 9.

Innovid announced industry-wide availability of the latest self-service feature within its CTV Composer authoring tool, enabling brands and publishers to create interactive CTV experiences in-house, at scale, for live streaming events. Innovid’s advanced creative technology is built on the Innovid platform, which delivers over 1.3 billion ads per day and is designed to handle high-quality video at scale. “High-value live content, like sports and awards, have historically been pillars of linear – but that’s changing,” said Dan Mouradian, SVP, Global Client Solutions at Innovid. “As live events move to CTV, and TV becomes 100% digital, advertisers have a unique opportunity to engage audiences at scale with personalized, interactive formats. They now have the technology to accomplish it on their own.”

Semcasting has launched Real-Time Voter Measurement, a new voter transparency feature in AudienceDesigner. RTVM offers political campaigns, candidates and their agencies transparency across platforms into which voters they have reached, who they have not reached, and what messages have been delivered in one holistic view. RTVM is able to re-identify the recipient of an impression from the original audience as it happens, automatically creating a child segment of the original audience in ADS. This child segment can be profiled, versioned, deployed with new creative and downloaded as a postal list.
