ADVERTISING
WarnerMedia’s Turner and AT&T’s advertising business Xandr are collaborating to improve the relevancy of advertising, fueled by data and content connections. Turner and Xandr’s ad sales teams have been working on four initiatives: more relevant advertising across Turner’s TV brands, with AT&T first-party set-top-box data; using Xandr’s data capabilities to fuel more relevant advertising on Turner’s digital properties; expanding the reach of branded storytelling to addressable TV; and proving the impact of advertising through attribution. “Turner has been actively preparing for this moment, building a foundation of actionable ad capabilities,” Donna Speciale, president of Turner Ad Sales, tells Cynopsis. “We are proud to come together with Xandr to build on that effort. This is a win for marketers and for our viewers as the experience becomes more relevant to them.” Mike Welch, SVP, corporate strategy and development, Xandr, added, “Six short months after the WarnerMedia merger, Turner and Xandr have come together to offer advertisers four tangible, enhanced advertising solutions that create better consumer experience.”
Verizon Media, formerly Oath, inked a new multiyear global native advertising deal with Microsoft. Chicken Soup for the Soul acquired APlus.com, the digital media company co-founded and chaired by Ashton Kutcher for $15 million in cash and stock. “Our historic relationship with A Plus has greatly benefited our company as we used A Plus’s ability to generate video views to help attract major advertisers to sponsor our television series. As we ramp up series production, we expect to rely even more heavily on the A Plus distribution capability,” said William J. Rouhanan, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer. “By eliminating video view distribution costs, this acquisition is expected to result in $5 million of cost savings in 2019 and will enhance our ability to increase the commitments we make to advertisers and increase our number of original series.” Kutcher received shares for his portion of the company, increasing his stake in CSS Entertainment.

Brain Power Studio inked a new agreement with Harlequin that will allow the studio to ramp up its output for the Harlequin Film Collection. To date, eight films have been produced under the existing partnership, but formalizing the new venture will enable Harlequin to raise its equity stay in the films and give Brain Power Studio further access to the collection and increase the number of films it produces each year.
