Good morning. It’s Wednesday, September 25, 2013, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

NBC Sports Group and the USOC are making a play to beef up programming for the Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games in a media rights deal with the International Paralympic Committee. The agreement will see 116 total hours of programming in the US with NBC and NBCSN combining to carry 50 hours of television coverage for March’s Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, starting on March 7 with the Opening Ceremony. In Sept. 2016, NBC and NBCSN will show 66 hours of coverage from the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, an increase of 60.5 hours from the coverage of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. In addition, the USOC will provide live online coverage of both the Sochi and Rio Paralympic Games at TeamUSA.org. Coverage will be made possible through the support of the broadcast and streaming sponsors BMW, BP, Citi, Liberty Mutual and Procter & Gamble, marking the first time the broadcast has been exclusively sold to USOC sponsors.

On the Air

NBA Inside Stuff is making a comeback. The classic sports and entertainment all-access show will resurface at NBA TV with brand-new episodes featuring co-hosts Grant Hill and Kristen Ledlow starting Saturday, Nov. 2, at noon. Believe it or not, the series hasn’t aired since 2005 and will offer refined versions of segments such as Jam Session and Rewind in the new incarnate. Overall, 26 episodes of the half-hour show will air during the NBA season. The return of NBA Inside Stuff will also include brand extensions across the NBA Digital portfolio and social media integration across all platforms.

With more ratings info in, NBC’s Sunday Night Football wrangled even higher numbers than early tallies, with an average of 20.5 million viewers, according to fast national data from Nielsen. The contest bested the Emmys telecast by almost 3 million viewers. Sunday’s Bears/Steelers game delivered a 12.2/20 fast national rating with Pittsburgh ranking as the top market with a 39.9/56.

ESPN’s college football schedule this weekend will see four of the top five ranked teams in action, with a Saturday night doubleheader showcasing Ole Miss/Alabama at 6:30p followed by Stanford/Washington State at 10p. The ABC Saturday Night Football Presented by Windows telecast at 8p will showcase Ohio State/Wisconsin.

Bellator MMA landed international distribution below the border, courtesy of a deal with FOX Sports Latin America. The multi-year partnership agreement will make FOX Sports the exclusive carrier of Bellator throughout the entirety of Latin America. The agreement will give the company exclusive rights to broadcast Bellator MMA content in all Latin American countries, including Brazil, with a total distribution of more than 50 million households. Beginning in October of 2013, FOX Sports will air Bellator content, including Bellator 360, a large collection of previous Bellator live events and other original content. To kick off this tremendous new partnership, FOX Sports will carry Bellator’s Nov. 2nd event pitting “Rampage” Jackson and Tito Ortiz.

The Daily Telegraph reports that that the NFL continues to invest in London, with NFL UK Managing Director Alistair Kirkwood saying that the league was “in negotiations” to stage three regular-season games in London next year, up from this season’s two games.

Universal Sports Network is readying more than 20 hours of live TV and online coverage of the 2013 FIG World Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, from Oct. 3-6. Steve Schlanger calls the action alongside analysts and Olympic gold medalists Bart Connor and Amanda Borden, and Olympian Kip Simons.

Universal Sports Network also announced that it acquired the U.S. rights to Baisikeli, The Story of an African Cycling Team, from South African production company Sinamatella Productions. The half-hour documentary debuts Thursday at 7:30p on Universal Sports and follows the Kenyan National Cycling team as they train for the 2012 Tour of Rwanda.

Sportsman Channel carries back-to-back shows dedicated to Fred Bear tonight with Fred Bear: The Father of Bowhunting presented by The All New Bear Agenda Bow at 7p, followed by Fred Bear: Kodiak Country at 8p. During the programs, Bear Archery will run short program vignettes showcasing Sportsman hosts using Bear’s newest products, which will be a sneak peek before the product launch on September 26.

Big Ten Network President Mark Silverman is on deck to throw out the first pitch at the Chicago Cub’s home game against the Pirates this afternoon. First pitch is at 1:20p CT.
