* MORE GOOD STUFF *

Fox Television Stations and TAP, Inc. will launch a multi-platform dating program called My Dating Place, initially in Phoenix on the Fox O&O station KUTP. My Dating Place is an interactive series, airing five nights a week, and designed to bring together singles in their hometowns. The program is formatted to link the Fox digital properties with the on-air show, and in fact how viewers participate with the online portion will drive what is seen nightly on the series.

Soon after cleaning up his house party for hundreds of WB network staffers celebrating the end of a long and beautiful relationship, Garth Ancier is on the brink of a new deal with Warner Bros. Television to develop shows for broadcast and cable network, as well as syndication.  Tho nothing officially has been announced, Ancier will reportedly also oversee Warner Bros. interests in In2TV, the broadband partnership between AOL and Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution. Ancier is not new to syndication – think back, there was a little show he created called Ricki Lake!

Film critic, Leonard Maltin will host a new series on ReelzChannel called The Secret’s Out. The show will premiere on September 27 on the same day ReelzChannel launches to more than 28 million homes across the nation. Maltin will provide viewers a guide to unnoticed movies airing on cable and satellite TV.

The HorseTV Channel will introduce three new series to its line-up with U.S. premieres next month:

  • Kleo The Misfit Unicorn, premieres October 1 at 10a. An animated children’s series about a unicorn who is different, and the purpose of the show is to celebrate each person’s differences.
  • Race Country, premieres October 13 at 8p. A a weekly series centering on the people who live in Lambourn, England, in the heart of racehorse country, where almost everyone works in the horseracing world.
  • Irish Horse Board International Eventing 2006, premieres October 5 at 8p with new episodes each Thursday through November 2. Encores will air Sundays at 1p.

Based on the Emmy Award-winning special, Rome: Engineering an Empire, The History Channel will roll out a new weekly series Engineering an Empire on October 9 at 9p. Beginning with a two-hour special about Egypt, each episode will examine noted leaders of the highlighted empires and the architecture that still remains as a view into their culture. The series is hosted by actor and art historian, Peter Weller and is produced for The History Channel by KPI.

All this week — a little Cynopsis survey.   Forty-one shows will premiere this week, including almost the entire CBS and NBC schedules, and the brand new network, The CW kicks off on Wednesday.  Fox’s current schedule has already debuted this season, as has MyNetwork TV.  So let’s test our collective Programming Executive prowess — which of these new freshman series will either be the next breakout hit, or the first to be cancelled? Send your pick for BreakOut Hit and First to Fall here, with PIX in the subject line.  We’ll add them up and get back to you at week’s end. New Series Debuting this Season (not including midseason series):  (And if you’re still looking for a fall broadcast schedule with premiere dates, it’s on the homepage at www.cynopsis.com .)

Music Choice is conducting a national search to find new artists or bands for its music show, Fresh Crops available on Music Choice On Demand. Unsigned artists and bands should submit 60 seconds of an original music video by October 20. The winner, determined by a team of judges, will be showcased in the premiere of Fresh Crops next year. For more information on the contest rules visit: http://www.musicchoice.com/freshcrops.

Yahoo and Current TV are teaming up to provide professional and user-generated video clips called Yahoo Current Network, launching today. The idea is to make viral videos more appealing to advertisers and in fact many of the videos “airing” on Yahoo will be superseded with a :15 or :30-second commercial.   Catch more at video.yahoo.com/ currenttv. The site is divided into four sections – Buzz, Action, Driver and Traveler, with more sections, or channels, expected.

* PRODUCTION / DEVELOPMENT / CASTING *

HBO is working on a project with Gary Sanchez Prods (that’s Will Ferrell’s production company), in a project called P.E., about a washed-out major league baseball player who returns to his hometown to be the junior high school P.E. teacher.  The rights to the film P.E. were acquired by Gary Sanchez Prods after its initial screening at the Sundance Film Festival.

Production has started on the Discovery Channel limited 8-episode series Final Hour which will focus on the serious issues of our time including global warming, poverty and oil consumption and will take viewers from the present day to forty years in the future. The series will include a combination of fact with solutions and data presented by noted scholars and scientists, along with drama to illustrate the storytelling. The series premieres in fall 2007 and is produced for Discovery Channel by Paul Lussier Company and Rivet Entertainment LLC.

* EXECUTIVE MOVES *

Jeremy Spiegel has been upped to Co-Executive Producer of Extra, the syndicated entertainment show, where he will help manage the daily operations of the show, and will continue to be based in Los Angeles. He has been with the show for ten years.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Romano has joined Music Choice as its new Director/Research. She will supervise all research efforts, including the establishment of standardized reporting and analysis systems and custom research which will support the areas of branding, content, sales and product development.

Portfolio Entertainment Inc. has promoted Aron Dunn to Manager/Creative Development. He will spearhead the purchase of new intellectual properties and mange them through the development phase. In addition, Aron will extend the company’s brands into new multiple platforms such as online, mobile and gaming.
