Good morning. It’s Wednesday, September 11, 2013, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

The IOC has a new leader with Thomas Bach selected to replace Jacques Rogge as the new president of the organization. Bach becomes the ninth president in the 119-year history of the IOC after taking the balloting in the second round of voting with 49 votes, ahead of second place Richard Carrion of Puerto Rico with 29 votes. In addition, USOC Chairman Larry Probst was elected to the IOC to become the fourth US member of the organization.

On the Air

More ratings records for the NFL. The first outing of MNF this season set a new high for ESPN with the doubleheader taking the top two telecasts of the night across both broadcast and cable. The opening Eagles/Redskins game pulled a 10.1 rating to represent 11.74 million households to rank as the highest-rated and most-viewed opening game since ESPN started carrying MNF in 2006. The second matchup drew a 7.1 score for the network with an average of nearly 8.2 million households tuning in.

Meanwhile, the league also handed FOX Sports with some new precedents with the network’s doubleheader officially drawing a 12.9/25 Nielsen score with 21.8 million viewers tuning in nationally, according to fast national ratings. Both marked record highs for the company and were up 11% over last season’s opening doubleheader. The NFL on FOX also set Week 1 doubleheader records for Men 18-49 (11.3), Men 25-54 (12.1), Adults 18-49 (8.2) and Adults 25-54 (8.9).

Continuing the football ratings trend, ESPN reports that the company drew its most-viewed college football regular season Saturday of all time, based on Nielsen numbers. ESPN averaged 3,840,000 viewers in the 24-hour day-part with nearly 15 hours of college football studio and game content on Saturday that averaged 5,557,000 viewers and a 3.5 rating. ESPN’s prime-time telecast pitting Michigan and Notre Dame ranked as the weekend’s most-viewed non-NFL sporting event, averaging 8,653,000 viewers and a 5.3 score. Georgia’s win over South Carolina averaged 7,045,000 viewers and a 4.3 rating, while Miami’s upset of Florida averaged 4,596,000 viewers and a 3.1.

Indian actress-singer Priyanka Chopra will replace CeeLo Green to sing the intro to Thursday Night Football. Chopra’s song, In My City, will be featured as the new theme for Thursday Night Football ahead of all 13 primetime games this season starting Thursday at 8p.

Ron Shelton is turning from movies to TV, where the brain behind the likes of Bull Durham and White Men Can’t Jump is teaming up with the Lakers’ Jeannie Buss as well as former Lakers coach Phil Jackson and Kurt Rambis to create a series for Showtime. The various trades say that the series will focus on what happens behind the scenes for a pro basketball team and the family that runs it.

WFAN may soon be switching teams and donning Yankee colors. The radio station is reportedly close to a deal to earn broadcast rights to the Yankees, according to Newsday, that will pay $15-$20 million per year. If the deal is completed, the Mets would be on the hunt for a new home.

The third season of NBCSN’s NFL Turning Point returns tonight at 10p with the episode breaking down the Green Bay Packers game against the San Francisco 49ers, and the contribution of Anquan Boldin to the win. The show will also look at head coach Sean Payton’s return to the Saints and feature a film study session with Vikings RB Adrian Peterson.

Former Chicago Bulls guard Nate Robinson is slated to live tweet during a re-air of the 2013 NBA Playoffs, Game 4, pitting the Nets and Bulls tonight at 8p on NBA TV. During the telecast, Robinson scored 34 points including a personal 12-0 run late in regulation. During the NBA TV telecast, Robinson  currently with the Denver Nuggets  will take over the @NBATV handle to tweet his memories from the game and chat directly with fans.
