Cynopsis: Kids!
10/19/11

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, October 19, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Cablevision inks carriage deals for two preschool channels, which can now be seen by customers via its new iO en espanol Spanish-language TV digital service.

  • BBC Worldwide ChannelsCBeebies US Hispanic Spanish-language preschool channel joins Cablevision’s iO en espanol digital cable Spanish-language package this week on Channel 1085.  CBeebies will be available in all markets served by Cablevision in the US.  Based in Miami, the CBeebies Latin America and US Hispanic channel focuses on kids learning through play, using music, movement, storytelling, drawings, numbers, early science skills and natural history as ways to encourage them to use their imaginations and model positive behavior.  The channel’s programming content includes a mix of animation, puppets and live action titles such as El Jardin de los Suenos, Dibujemos con Squiglet and Boogie Beebies, as well as series including El Closet de Chloe, Zigby, Finley: El Camioncito de Bomberos, Ave y Tres and Charlie and Lola (in Latin America).
  • Vme Kids, Vme Media’s cable channel targeted to Latino preschoolers, will now be carried on Cablevision’s iO en espanol on channel 1081 beginning this week.  Vme Kids is the exclusive Spanish-language home to preschool series including Barney, Bob the Builder, Angelina Ballerina and Thomas & Friends.  The channel’s library also features series such as Plaza Sesamo and LazyTown, among others.

Who will acquire UK-based HIT Entertainment?  There has been much discussion, with Magic 8 Ball this week showing all signs pointing this week to a deal close to completion with toymaker Mattel, per Sky News.  According to the report the price tag for the deal would be of about US$786m for the company, below the reported asking price of $1.6 billion.  The deal is said to be for HIT and all of its assets, except the US preschool channel Sprout, which is a joint venture with Comcast-NBCUniversal and PBS.  HIT is currently owned by Apax Partners, which has been shopping the company for some time.
