Grammy-Award winner Beyonce is officially on deck to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show in February. Both CBS and the NFL announced the latest celeb to anchor the event, with the artist performing at the Pepsi Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show on CBS on Sunday,February 3, 2013 from New Orleans. The Halftime Show is an NFL Network Production and will be executive produced by Ricky Kirshner and directed by Hamish Hamilton.

On the Air

The NHL made is hoping it latest offer will get a full season of play back on track, proposing a 50/50 split of hockey-related revenue as well as an 82-game season that would start on Nov. 2. The potential deal would reportedly span six years with each team playing one extra game every five weeks to make up for the already cancelled contests.

Dan Patrick confirmed that “The Dan Patrick Show” would be departing Fox Sports Net’s regional affiliates effective today. On his morning show, Patrick announced the move, noting that he will be in a new national channel (NBCSN anyone?) soon.

A Broncos comeback spurred ESPN’s MNF game to a ratings victory with the network winning the evening in all key male demos as well as adults 18-34 and 18-49. The game drew an 8.2 national household rating with an average of 12,841,000 viewers, according to Nielsen. In Denver, the game delivered a 15.2 rating on ESPN and a 21.1 rating on KTVD-IND, for a combined 36.3 rating in the market. In San Diego, the game delivered a 14.0 rating on ESPN and a 21.1 rating on KFMB-CBS, for a combined 35.0 rating in the market.

Final numbers on NBC’s SNF coverage cemented the network’s best start in the seven-year history of the franchise, with an average household rating of 13.4/21 so far this season, according to Nielsen. Viewership is off slightly, however, with a 22.1 million average, down from 22.2 million last year. Sunday’s blowout game drew 19.9 million viewers, up 13% from last year’s Week 6 SNF game.

Final Nielsen numbers for ESPN’s Saturday night college football matchup featuring a LSU victory over South Carolina finished as the week’s most-viewed college football game across any network, according to the network. The SEC matchup averaged a 3.7 rating with 5,978,000 viewers and marked ESPN’s most-viewed and highest-rated regular-season college football game since September 15, 2011.

Telemundo announced that its coverage of the “Rumbo al Mundial” Soccer World Cup Qualifier between Guyana and Mexico on Friday delivered 2.1 million total viewers and ranked as the top program on Spanish-language TV on Friday night among men 18-49 (826,000) and men 18-34 (375,000), according to Nielsen

The NCAA is moving several championships out of New Jersey due to the new state law that allows sports wagering of pro as well as collegiate games. The six championships, all scheduled in 2013, include the Division III Wrestling Championships, East Regionals (Ewing, March 2), Division I Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, Diving Regionals (Piscataway, March 14-17), Division I Women’s Basketball Championship, Trenton Regional (Trenton, March 30-April 2), Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship (Hoboken, April 26-28) and the Division II and III Women’s Lacrosse Championships (Montclair, May 18-19). All six championships will be moved to new host sites and cities, to be determined at a later time. The league stated that its policy strictly prohibits the conducting of any championship session in a state with legal wagering that is based on single-game betting.

NYRR handed a quartet of promotions to executives ahead of the 2012 ING New York City Marathon, announcing that Peter Ciaccia had been promoted to Executive Vice President, Event Development & Broadcast Production; Michael Capiraso will now serve as Executive Vice President, Operations, Administration & Strategy; Kerin Hempel was upped to Vice President, Strategy & Planning; and Thomasin Bentley was named Director, New Business Development & Media Sales for the organization.

The Sacramento Kings finally have a sponsor for their arena, announcing that Sleep Train Mattress Centers inked a multiyear deal to name the venue Sleep Train Arena.

The Head & Shoulders brand is taking its relationship with Troy Polamalu to a higher level. The company is launching Troy Polamalu School of Deeper Learning as the newest chapter of its campaign. The virtual school features “a series of humorous online courses to help men everywhere achieve deeper thinking through healthy scalps and great looking hair.” Joining Troy will Brett Keisel, Dean of Students, Professor of Facial Hair as well as Rob Riggle, Tenured Department Head, Comedic Skills.

Black & Decker announced a deal to outfit the car of NASCAR driver Marcos Ambrose four of the final five races this season. The Richard Petty Motorsports team driver currently sits 18th in the series standings.

Integrated marketing agency CSE announced plans for the second event of Pantech’s sponsorship of the 2012 Dew Tour, the Toyota City Championships, starting tomorrow in San Francisco. The company is offer the Pantech Experience at the event, featuring an interactive arena where visitors will be required to register on Pantech Elements to receive a unique code. Guests will then enter the code at four activity areas on Pantech devices including the Pantech Element tablet dunk tank, Pantech demo bar, Jukebox and Photo Op with the Dew Cup. After each activity, check-in prizes will be awarded for participation.

Digital Fields

The San Francisco 49ers are bringing their in-stadium experience to a new level, announcing a deal with network solutions company Brocade Communications Systems bring a “first-of-its-kind” technological infrastructure to the team’s new $1.2 billion stadium in Santa Clara. As part of the partnership, Brocade will create and build a networking system to operate both the team’s computer applications as well as allow fans to tap into the Wi-Fi via their mobile devices. “This partnership with Brocade provides us a tremendous foundation as we strive to build a best-in-class networking system to support and promote the ultimate game-day experience that will differentiate this stadium from all others,” said 49ers CEO Jed York. “We have committed to building a stadium that represents all that is special about Silicon Valley and the Bay Area. Aligning with Brocade as a Founding Partner drives that commitment home.”
