Good morning. It’s Wednesday, November 8, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.
A lawsuit has been filed by the Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW) this week against the producers of The CW’s America’s Next Top Model show. The WGAW filed their complaint with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), alleging the producers, Anisa Productions headed by Ken Mok, unlawfully fired twelve writers, who went on strike last July asking for union representation. The WGAW, who has tried in the past to organize the reality series, asserts Anisa Productions has violated federal labor laws. Mok told the strikers that they would no longer have their jobs with the show because the next phase would be produced without writers. The WGAW complaint asks the NLRB for an order to reinstate the writers in addition to compensation for lost wages.
