Non-conference coverage gets underway with more than 375 contests starting Friday, Nov. 8, with a full slate of games including the Armed Forces Classic at 7:30p on ESPN. Among the notable assignments this season are:

On the Air

ESPN’s coverage of Monday Night Football that saw a Bears upset over the Packers, delivered a 10.1 rating for an average of 16.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen. That ties the Eagles/Redskins game as the highest-rated MNF telecast of the 2013 season for MNF. On the local front, the game drew a 20.3 rating on ESPN in Chicago and a 13.7 on WCIU-IND, for a combined 34.0 rating in the market. In Milwaukee, the game garnered a 13.9 rating on ESPN and a 36.4 on WISN-ABC, for a combined 50.3 rating in the market. Through nine weeks and 10 games, ESPN’s MNF is averaging an 8.5 US rating, 9,787,000 households and 13,362,000 viewers in 2013, slight increases in all categories over the same period in 2012.
With more Nielsen numbers in the books, ABC officially carried the two most-viewed college football games of the week on Saturday. Florida State’s win over Miami averaged 8,354,000 viewers and a 5.1 rating. The channel’s coverage of Michigan State besting Michigan ranked as the second most-viewed game of the week with an average of 5,169,000 viewers and a 3.3 rating. The ABC Saturday Night Football series is posting double-digit audience growth over last year at the same point, averaging 6,356,000 viewers and a 3.8 rating for increases of 18% and 15%.

Fantasy Sports Zone TV (FSZ TV) announced its arrival yesterday with the goal of ensnaring the more than 35 million Americans that play fantasy sports and a launch in 2014. The new network is led by cable television industry veteran Steve Friedman and investor Jeff Sagansky. The channel will come out of the game with over 3,000 hours of original programming devoted to professional and college fantasy sports, including baseball, football, basketball, NASCAR, hockey and golf. According to the channel, the network’s daily live programming will feature “prominent bloggers and fantasy sports experts to provide in-depth statistical analysis of fantasy sports and fantasy games.”

The report states that the Chinese Olympic Committee sent a formal nomination letter to the IOC on Sunday. Nov. 14 is the deadline for submission of bids to the IOC.

NBC Sports Group announced that its coverage of the MLS Cup will continue tomorrow with the second leg of the Western Conference Semifinals between the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders at 11p on NBCSN. Arlo White will call the game and will be joined by former U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder and analyst Kyle Martino and host Russ Thaler.

The rematch of two of Bellator MMA’s Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez delivered record ratings for Spike TV with the telecast drawing 1.1 million viewers. That marks the most-watched in Bellator event history and the most watched mixed martial arts show on television this fall.
MSG Network announced that its original series Four Courses with JB Smoove presented by VISA, starring comedian and actor JB Smoove, will return to the network for a sophomore season with ten all-new episodes starting in January.
