ESPN revealed plans for the seventh annual Jimmy V Week for Cancer Research, set to begin on Dec. 3. This year, the social initiative will expand to two weeks in an effort to broaden awareness of the cause. The campaign launches at 7p with a simulcast of former NC State coach Jim Valvano’s 1993 ESPYs speech across ESPN domestic media networks, as well as on the ABC SuperSign in Times Square with an introduction by cancer survivor, Good Morning America host Robin Roberts. To honor the 20th anniversary of the speech, Roberts and athletes, coaches, celebrities and ESPN personalities will recite Valvano’s words in PSAs. In addition, Jimmy V Week content, graphics and executions will appear in Monday Night Football, NBA on ESPN games and college football games on ABC throughout the initiative.
The NBA, WNBA, Africare and ExxonMobil announced the launch of “Power Forward,” a youth engagement initiative designed to use basketball to develop health, leadership and life skills in Nigeria. Nigerian native and Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon, fellow countryman and former NBA player Obinna Ekezie and three-time WNBA champion Swin Cash tipped off the program with Nigerian government officials. The program is being introduced at 10 public and private high schools in Abuja and will engage 300 students, with equal representation of boys and girls and a curriculum that teaches leadership skills and builds health awareness through a combination of classroom and athletic activities.

Other names include Carl Bialik as Senior Writer, News; Micah Cohen as Senior Editor; Harry Enten as Senior Writer, Politics; and Walter Hickey as Senior Writer, Science and Lifestyle.
FOX Sports announced that the company is working with Studio 408 (made up of graduate and undergrads from Savannah College of Art and Design) to create a concept for the opening animation for the Super Bowl.
