Cynopsis: Kids!
5/30/07
Good morning. It’s Wednesday, May 30, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.
If you thought you felt a seismic shift yesterday, you did. But it wasn’t the plate tectonic type of move; rather it was Warner Bros. moving up by two days the release date of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in the US and Canada, from Friday, July 13 to its new open date of Wednesday, July 11, as first reported by Coming Soon. This move will provide Order of the Phoenix, the fifth HP movie, with a five-day total for its first weekend. So, there are some questions hanging out there … First, does that mean July 11 is the actual open date or will there be a chunk of screenings the night before, as was the case for Shrek the Third and Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, to help boost the box office take. Secondly, will the Imax version of HP and the Order of the Phoenix shift to July 11 as well? What impact will the Order of the Phoenix open move have on Paramount/DreamWorks’ Transformer movie, which is set to open on July 4? Order of the Phoenix is slated to open in the UK on July 12.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
In other Warner Bros. movie news, The Dark Knight, the next Batman movie, will feature scenes shot in traditional 35mm film as well as with high resolution Imax cameras, marking the first time that a portion of a feature film has been shot using the Imax cameras. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the movie is slated for release on July 18, 2008 simultaneously in traditional and Imax theaters. When the scenes of The Dark Knight that were shot using Imax cameras are show in Imax movie theaters the movie will fill the Imax screen film.
