ABC Program Updates:  Knights of Prosperity returns next month and air its final four episodes beginning Wednesday, August 8 at 830p. The premiere of NASCAR in Primetime has been moved back to Wednesday, August 15th at 9p.  And you’ll recall The Nine is also returning in August, kicking off its final episodes on August 1st at 10p.  And finally, National Bingo Night this December, scheduled to air on five consecutive nights.

VH1 will debut two new shows this Sunday night featuring celebrity bachelors looking for love:

  • At 9p, Rock of Love with Bret Michaels follows the lead singer/writer of rock band Poison as he chooses a wife from a parade of rocker chicks. This series is produced by Mindless Entertainment and 51 Pictures.
  • Then at 1030p, VH1 will take a look at why actor/heartthrob Scott Baio hasn’t settled down in Scott Baio is 45 … And Single, created by Bischoff Hervey Entertainment and produced by 3 Ball Productions. Both shows have already launched sneak previews online via VSPOT at VH1.com. Chachi is 45?!


SCI FI Channel will premiere Mind Control with Derren Brown July 26 at 10p following the season two opener of Who Wants to be a Superhero?. Mind Control will introduce American viewers to British mentalist Derren Brown in six one-hour episodes that are produced by Objective Productions.

Rich Cronin, President/CEO of GSN since 2001 has announced plans to resign his post and will leave the network at the end of this month. The network plans to announce Rich’s successor in the upcoming weeks.

Despite NBC’s low primetime numbers for Live Earth: The Concerts for a Climate in Crisis last Saturday night, Bravo did net close to 8 million unduplicated viewers who watched all or part of the network’s nearly 18-hour live coverage marathon (9a-230a). Bravo’s coverage spiked at 9p with 1.272 million total viewers and 706,000 A18-49 viewers.

Outdoor Channel has “gone fishin'” as it will eventually have six sport fishing shows in total on its schedule including the returning Ultimate Match Fishing and Ultimate Match Fishing  College Edition plus four new ones: Western Sportfishing with Lee Horsley, Offshore Adventures, Outfitters Almanac and Ultimate Outdoors. All six shows will debut this year and next.

Sundance Channel and Universal HD will jointly offer viewers a new weekly programming block in hi-def starting August 1 at 8p. Microsoft as sponsor will present the branded block which will contain such Sundance Channel original programs as Iconoclasts, Big Ideas for a Small Planet and Live from Abbey Road each Wednesday through December 26.

CableU, the subscription based online service that offers competitive analysis, proprietary research and insight of cable networks will make its debut at CTAM later this month and has just added five more networks to its roster including FX, MTV, USA Network, TBS and TNT. With this addition, CableU provides analysis on 30 U.S. cable networks in all. Information on how CableU works can be accessed at www.cableu.tv .

Katz Radio Group, a division of Katz Media Group, Inc., has purchased the streaming audio advertising sales company Net Radio Sales, Inc. from Aritaur Communications Inc. Renamed as Katz Net Radio Sales, the company represents a network of more than 1,000 online radio streams from both broadcast signals and online exclusive stations that reach approximately 5 million listeners per month. Exact terms of the transaction were not revealed.

Petry Media Corporation and Hoak Media Corporation have reupped their representation agreement for five more years. Blair Television and Petry Television, both primary operating divisions of Petry Media, represent a majority of Hoak Media television stations.

NBC News has formed a new nonfiction production company called Peacock Productions which will cull together the editorial, technical and production teams of Dateline NBC, NBC News Production, NBC Media Productions and NBC Next Media to serve up nonfiction programming to NBCU television, cable channels and other broadcast and cable units worldwide.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution has bumped Kimberly Kleid to the position of VP/Programming and Development. Based on the West Coast, Kimberly will still provide development for first-run syndication and will also add oversight of cable and talent development to her list of duties.

Marc Goldstein, President/CEO, GroupM North America has been elected to the Board of Directors of The Partnership for a Drug-Free America.

Elaine Frontain Bryant has advanced to VP/Non-Fiction and Alternative Programming at A&E Network. In this new role, Elaine will maintain her supervision duties for the development and production of the network’s real-life series and will now add oversight of A&E’s lifestyle programming development team. She will also continue to report to Robert Sharenow, SVP/Non-Fiction and Alternative Programming, A&E.

BBC Worldwide America, under the helm of Garth Ancier, President, has reorganized its executive team:

  • Luke Bradley-Jones has been moved to the new position of EVP/Business Development and Digital Media, effective September 1. Luke will transfer to New York from London where he was Head/Strategy at BBC Worldwide and will work closely with Ancier and Michael Ross, EVP/Business Affairs and Operations. Luke will also manage U.S. digital media efforts that encompass on-demand, bbc.com and global distribution deals.
  • Chris Carr has been named COO/U.S. Channels and will be in charge of all channel operations. Chris is a member of the original BBC America launch team.
  • Andrew Bott as CFO will now have oversight across the entire company as well as BBC America.
  • Paul Telegdy has been upped to EVP/Content and Production and will continue to lead the company’s West Coast production studio where Dancing with the Stars is produced.
  • Candace Carlisle has been elevated to EVP/Co-Productions and TV Sales and will maintain leadership with TV Sales and Co-Production in the Americas on behalf of BBC Worldwide and its partnership with Discovery Communications Inc.
  • Burton Cromer has been promoted to EVP/Consumer Products where he will continue to supervise the company’s DVD business and lend support to the company’s online and magazine products through the BBC America Shop.
  • Jo Petherbridge will now lead the communications department as EVP/Communications. Jo’s redefined department will offer publicity, public relations and additional communications services for all BBC divisions in North and South America.

Monday – A18-49 Analysis:  FOX clung to #1 Monday night with 2.3/7 A18-49, according to fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen Media Research. ABC did the best at 8p with its Wife Swap re-do at 2.1/7. FOX had the top ratings of the night during 9p with Hell’s Kitchen securing a 3.5/10. Then at 10p, NBC’s Dateline with 2.4/7 edged out CBS’ CSI: Miami repeat at 2.3/6, the usual winner for this time slot.
