ABC has decided to no longer air original episodes of sitcoms Happy Endings and Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 on Sundays at 10p and 1030p respectively.  The network will replace the comedies by an encore of Shark Tank.  Both sitcoms will continue to air on Tuesdays at 9p and 930p.

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

A third season of The Killing is in store after all on AMCFox Television Studios (FTVS) and AMC made a new deal to renew the series for a third season.  The deal also has Veena Sud back as executive producer, writer and showrunner.  Actors Mireille Enos (Sarah Linden) and Joel Kinnaman (Stephen Holder) are returning as well.  The third season will focus on a new case which will be resolved over the course of 12 episodes.  Production on the new season begins February 25 in Vancouver.  The Killing is produced by Fox Television Studios and is executive produced by Mikkel Bondesen for Bondesen Productions; Kristen Campo also serves as co-executive producer. 

Travel Channel approved a new original series Tailgate Takeover hosted by food expert Adam Richman that goes to sporting events, concerts, festivals and fairs around the country anywhere tailgating happens.  The series will have 13 half-hour episodes and is slated to premiere this summer.  The network will give viewers a preview of the series with the special Super Bowl Tailgate Takeover airing on January 30 at 9p.  Both the series and the special are produced by Sharp Entertainment. 

Bridal-themed series Something Borrowed, Something New premieres on TLC starting February 8 at 10p.  This series is TLC’s latest addition for its BrideDay lineup with 12 half-hour episodes hosted by designer Kelly Nishimoto and stylist Sam Saboura.  In each episode, brides are looking for the perfect dress and have to choose between a new designer gown and a fashionably reimagined heirloom dress.  Something Borrowed, Something New is produced by Trium Entertainment.

ASPiRE has set the world premiere of the original miniseries, The Scroll: Evidence of Life Unseen for February 3 at 8p.  The four-part documentary follows the inspiring real-life stories of many modern-day ministers, evangelists and church leaders, highlighting their journeys of faith, hope and perseverance.  Faith leaders featured include Bishop T.D. Jakes, Rev. Al Sharpton Jr., Rev. Bernice A. King, Bishop Hezekiah Walker and Dr. Calvin O. Butts III among many others.  The Scroll is directed and executive produced by Parrish Smith with Leona D. Willis also serving as EP; Pipeline Entertainment also co-executive produces the series.  The miniseries premieres February 3 at 8p with subsequent premiere episodes airing each Sunday in February at 8p.

Programming Note: The exclusive Lance Armstrong interview conducted by Oprah Winfrey has expanded to air over two nights on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. Oprah and Lance Armstrong: The Worldwide Exclusive will air this Thursday from 9-1030p and Friday at 9p.  The interview will be simultaneously streamed live worldwide both nights via Oprah.com.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

AT&T U-verse made a long-term distribution agreement with The Walt Disney Company to deliver Disney’s lineup of sports, news and entertainment content to AT&T U-verse TV customers across televisions, computers, smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles and internet-enabled televisions.  The new multi-year deal with see AT&T U-verse introducing several new services including the full complement of authenticated WATCH products, ESPN 3D, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN Buzzer Beater, Disney Junior and the upcoming ABC News/Univision Joint Venture.  In all, approximately 70 services are covered by the broad scope of this agreement including ABC, ABC Family, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Deportes, ESPNEWS, ESPN Classic, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN Buzzer Beater, ESPN 3D, ESPN GamePlan, ESPN Full Court, ESPN3, The Longhorn Network, and retransmission consent for WABC-TV, KABC-TV, WLS-TV, KGO-TV, KTRK-TV, WTVD-TV and KFSN-TV, as well as more than 10 hi-def networks.

Clear Channel Media and Entertainment made an exclusive long-term agreement with Steve Harvey to renew and expand his relationship with the company.  The deal will see Harvey continue in his current role as host of The Steve Harvey Morning Show, a nationally syndicated radio show by Premiere Networks on an estimated 70 radio stations in the US that reaches nearly 6.0 million weekly listeners.  Harvey will further work with Clear Channel Media and Entertainment on a variety of joint projects and be a spokesperson for the company.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Jessica Simpson will be starring in a new comedy as NBC ordered a pilot presentation for a scripted half-hour project.  The project is described as a Curb Your Enthusiasm-like venture inspired on Simpson’s real life.  Electus and Universal Television will produce the multi-camera project.  Simpson and Electus head Ben Silverman are also involved in NBC’s Fashion Star which is back for a second season starting March 8.

TNT okayed a new untitled private-eye drama starring Jon Tenney (The Closer) and Rebecca Romijn (X-Men) and based on author David Baldacci’s characters Sean King and Michelle Maxwell.  TNT ordered 10 episodes of the series which will be produced by CBS Television Studios.  Shane Brennan wrote the pilot and will serve as EP with Grant Anderson; Karen Spiegel is a producer.  Balducci is a consultant on the series which is slated to premiere in summer 2013.  The drama also stars Michael O’Keefe as Rigby and Chris Butler as Carter along with Ryan Hurst as Edgar Roy. 

Principle photography commenced yesterday on a fourth season of Showtime’s series Gigolos.  The production schedule will shoot for eight weeks in Las Vegas.  RelativityREAL is the production company with Marklen Kennedy of In Your Face Productions as the show’s creator and producer. 

ITV Studios America is teaming with Bishop-Lyons Entertainment on a first-look development deal.  Bishop-Lyons Entertainment was founded in 2010 and is led by Executive Producers, CEO Andrew Bishop and President David Lyons.  The company has developed, produced and partnered with many companies in non-scripted television including Fox Television Studios, Left/Right, Triage and now ITV Studios America. 

One Life to Live’s longtime star Robin Strasser yesterday tweeted her official involvement on The Online Network’s revival of the soap.  The Online Network’s Prospect Park has first dibs on OLTL characters that relocated to General Hospital though not the actors themselves.  Jordi Vilasuso is also on board All My Children’s online resurrection. 

~ INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS ~

Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) International is reorganizing its Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA) business after conducting a detailed review of its operations.  Gerhard Zeiler, President TBS International announced the new restructure which is designed to give more operating power and accountability within the regions instead of at large central locations.  The company does expect a 30% reduction in positions across the EMEA business once the restructuring process is complete.  The estimate includes open headcount, positions that became vacant and are not being replaced, redundancies and outsourcing. 

Tricon Films & Television will produce and oversee the international distribution of new miniseries The Inquisition with ten one-hour episodes.  The project is set during the 15th century Spanish Inquisition and is currently in development with Bruce Beresford as EP and director and Andrea Gorfolova, President Tricon Films & Television also as EP.

Viacom International Media Networks – The Americas and DIRECTV forged a new agreement to launch Comedy Central on DIRECTV’s programming lineup this month.  The expanded deal gives subscribers access to the network across Argentina, The Caribbean, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay and Venezuela. 

International production and distribution company, Sierra/Engine Television acquired the worldwide distribution rights to the reality series, Ghostbreakers with 18 half-hour episodes.  The series stars Joey Greco as he leads a team of specialists who visit haunted sites in North America.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis:  FOX ruled Saturday night with an 11.0/30 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, FOX did best with the NFC Pre-Game and the start of the NFC Playoff game at an average of 3.7/11 and Univision’s Sabado Gigante was a distant #2 at 0.7/2.  FOX’s ratings for the NFC Playoff game surged to a 12.4/34 during 9p while ABC’s Miss America Competition and CBS’ Crimetime Saturday encore tied for #2 at 1.4/4 each.  FOX’s NFC Playoff game ratings dipped slightly at 10p but still won with a 12.0/32 and ABC’s Miss America Competition was next at 1.9/5.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis:  NBC had a golden night Sunday posting a 5.1/13 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  Starting out, ABC topped at 7p with America’s Funniest Home Videos at 1.4/3 followed closely by NBC’s Golden Globe Arrivals special at 1.3/3.  NBC’s coverage of the Golden Globes won at 5.8/14 and CBS’ 60 Minutes placed second at 3.3/8.  Ratings for the Golden Globes on NBC rose to 6.4/15 during 9p and FOX’s animated comedies Family Guy and American Dad came next at an average of 2.8/7.  NBC polished off the final big win of the night at 10p as the Golden Globes delivered a 6.9/17 and CBS’ The Mentalist ranked #2 at 2.1/5.

Monday A18-49 Analysis: CBS had the winning lineup Monday night delivering a 3.3/9 with the A18-49 viewers, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, CBS’ comedies How I Met Your Mother and an encore episode of The Big Bang Theory won at an average of 3.8/10 and ABC’s The Bachelor wooed viewers in second place at 2.5/7.  Also this hour, The CW bowed new series The Carrie Diaries at 0.6/2 which tied for sixth place.  CBS remained on top during 9p with its sitcoms 2 Broke Girls and Mike & Molly at an average of 3.8/9 and NBC’s The Biggest Loser moved into the second spot at 2.6/7.  Then at 10p, CBS’ Hawaii Five-O did best at 2.4/6 with ABC’s Castle trailing at 1.9/5 and NBC’s Deception and Univision’s Amor Bravio tying for third place at 1.6/4 each.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

National Geographic Channels (NGC) tapped Hayes Tauber as SVP/Consumer Marketing; Tyler Korba was named Creative Director; and Brian Everett becomes Creative Director/Design.  All three will be based at network headquarters in Washington, D.C.  Hayes will report to CMO Courteney Monroe while Tyler and Brian report to SVP/Group Creative Director Andy Baker.  Furthermore, Allan Butler was promoted to VP/Development and Special Projects.  Allan is also based in Washington, D.C. and reports to Noel Siegel, SVP/Production and Development.

Jeffrey Almeida advances to VP/Account Services at creative marketing agency Bemis Balkind.  Jeffrey originally joined Bemis Balkind in 2008.

Vinita Nair was named Correspondent for CBS Newspath, the network’s 24-hour television news service to CBS stations and broadcasters worldwide.  Vinita will be based in New York.  Prior to this appointment, Vinita was co-anchor of ABC’s World News Now and America This Morning. 

WGBH/Boston adds Margo Dowlearn Flint as an Account Manager in Local Corporate Sponsorship.  Margo joins from Phoenix Media Group.
