Rick Haskins becomes EVP/Marketing and Brand Strategy of new network The CW, reporting to Dawn Ostroff, President/Entertainment. Rick will direct and oversee all phases of marketing for the new network, including brand management, on-air promotion, print media and new media initiatives.  He will be responsible for constructing The CW brand and formulating a launch campaign for the network, while directing and managing a staff that will cover all areas of television marketing.  Well done, Rick!

* MORE GOOD STUFF *Yesterday cable network fuse launched a customized website for MSOs called Just for the F of it. The site features gaming and entertainment content– all beginning with the letter F.  The site lives on participating MSO websites and allows each company to market products and services directly to fuse’s coveted 12-34 demo. Mark Hoppus, the former lead singer for mega-selling punk band Blink 182, serves as the site’s exclusive “tastemaker” and MC.

Great American Country (GAC) will debut The Collection, an original series, on March 1 at 9p. Hosted by Storme Warren, The Collection goes in-depth with artists on their collections of videos and offers fans behind-the-scenes inside stories on what happened on the set.

National Lampoon is increasing its online initiatives with its first full broadband, IPTV programming service, National Lampoon Toga!. Located at, Toga! is a 24-hour VOD service featuring elements of National Lampoon College, features from the website and materials from National Lampoon’s motion pictures, DVD titles and television programming.
mtvU will premiere the student-filmed and Beacon Award-nominated documentary, “mtvU Presents: Translating Genocide – Three Students Journey to Sudan” on March 12 on MTV at 11a.  The documentary, filmed entirely by three college students, captures the devastation of genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan. mtvU’s broadband channel, mtvU Über at, will also offer “Translating Genocide” on-demand beginning March 12.
The YES Network has extended its contract with ABC Regional Sports Sales, a division of ABC National Television Sales, through 2006. YES programming includes New York Yankees live games, encore games and pre-game and post-game shows; New Jersey Nets live games, playoff games and pre-game and post-game shows; and various entertainment programming.
 * NEW ORDERS / CASTING / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *Fox has reached into its development bag from 2001 and has pulled out the project Wedding Album about a wedding photographer and his assistant.  The project has been given an order to produce a pilot.  The project was originally from Andy Tennant, who will also direct the pilot.  Tennant directed the film Hitch. Fox Television Studios will produce.

Just yesterday I told you Ving Rhames will co-star in The CW’s new series Aquaman as the hero’s mentor.  Nothing’s changed there.  What has changed is who will play Aquaman.  As of yesterday, it was Will Toale.  As of this morning …. Justin Hartley.  Will was chosen when this project was still on the WB’s development slate.  With a new sheriff in town, namely CW’s Dawn Ostroff overseeing the development slate of the new network, the casting change was made. This project is from Warner Bros. TV.

Casting Notes …


  • Without a Face has added Kim Raver as one of the nine strangers that make up this ensemble drama of people held hostage in a bank robbery.
  • Enemies, a drama about two men who were best buddies as children, and are now on opposite sides of the law, has cast Jeffrey Donovan as the bad buddy.  Enemies is from Touchstone TV.
  • The Taye Diggs project called Day Break has added Meta Golding to the cast as Digg’s sister.  Diggs is a cop who was framed for murder and spends the series trying to prove his innocence while tracking the real murderer.
  • Women in Law about women all working in a lawfirm, has cast Kelli Williams who you’re familiar with from another legal series, The Practice.
  • And Ugly Betty about a fairly unattractive tho highly skilled administrative assistant, has added Ashley Jensen to the cast as Betty’s best friend.


  • Sony Pictures TV comedy project Til Death has added Eddie Kaye Thomas to the cast list.
  • Becoming Glen, from 20th Century Fox TV, has cast Erinn Hayes, opposite Rob Corddry and Julie Hagerty.

Casting Call:  The second season of So You Think You Can Dance will premiere Thursday, May 25 at 8p on Fox, from 19 Entertainment Ltd., and dick clark productions.  Its search for the ultimate dancer begins in New York City on March 2 before moving on to Los Angeles and then Chicago.  If this is your cup of tea and you’re between 18 and 30, check out for audition specifics.

Cat Deeley, one of the leading television hosts in the UK, has been named to host the second season of Fox’s SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, set to debut in May.

John Cucci has been upped to COO/Comedy Central/Spike TV/TV Land Entertainment Group, reporting to Doug Herzog.  John will be responsible for the corporate strategy and business development, production management, business and legal affairs and human resources and finances for the newly-formed group of networks. He moves over to the Entertainment Group from MTV Networks where he served as CFO for the last three years. 

Colette Chestnut has been named EVP/CFO, MTV Networks.  She succeeds John Cucci and will report to Michael Wolf President/COO, MTVN, as of March 20.  Colette will manage MTVN’s financial operations and will be a member of the MTVN Management Committee.  She joins MTVN from JWT where she served as CFO/North America since 2000.
Lisa Richards becomes the new Director/Affiliate Marketing, reporting to Peter Clifford, VP/Distribution and Affiliate Marketing, of WWE Distribution and Affiliate Marketing Group. Lisa will run a five-person affiliate marketing team.
Mark Carleton becomes non-executive Board Director of Mobile Streams, a role he will assume in addition to his current position as SVP/Liberty Media Corporation and Chairman/TruePosition,Inc., Liberty’s wireless location subsidiary.
Sam Zoda has been named EVP/Granada America, West Coast.  Sam will continue to be based at the company’s headquarters in Sherman Oaks.
National Geographic Ventures has named Bernice Chu VP/Business Development, reporting to Edward Prince, CEO/President of Distribution.  Bernice will be responsible for the analysis, negotiation and closure of domestic and international business transactions for broadcast, cable, home video, DVD, Internet, IPTV and broadband, from development through distribution. She also will work closely with Prince on overall strategy and business development for the division.
Ad agency JWT named Nicholas Read as CFO of the Americas.  In this new, expanded position, he will be responsible for all operations in North and Latin America.  He was previously COO of Latin America.  Nicholas will be based in New York and report to Lewis Trencher, Worldwide CFO.  Oscar Laino has also been upped to Regional Finance Director for Latin America and the Caribbean.  He was previously CFO of Argentina.  Oscar will report to Nicholas.

One upping and two new additions to Horizon Media: Dorothy Eckert has been upped to Associate Director/Direct Response Buying. Jon Katz joins the Direct Response Buying team as a Supervisor.  And Susan Dempsey joins as a Senior Buyer.

World Wrestling Entertainment is unifying all its cable, satellite, and telco affiliate activities under a new in-house WWE Distribution and Affiliate Marketing Group to be headed by Peter Clifford, VP/Distribution and Affiliate Marketing.  The group starts work on April 3 and will drive distribution of WWE’s subscription VOD service and other products, assuming the activities of long-time marketing agency TEAM Services.

* RATINGS *Monday – A18-49 Analysis:   NBC  led Monday night with a  6.8/16 A18-49, according to fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen Media Research. Fox was #2 with a 5.5/13, followed by ABC with 4.0/9 and CBS with 3.4/8. Trailing behind were Univision 1.8/4, UPN 1.4/3, WB 0.9/2 and Telemundo 0.7/2.  At 8p NBC led the pack with a 5.3/14, just two share points higher than Fox’s House. At 9p NBC easily held the lead with 6.9/15. For the 10-11p hour, NBC got more love for its pairs skating with a 7.4/18 than ABC did for Bachelor Travis, stomping on his roses by eight share points, and more than CSI: Miami, outpacing it by 6 share points.
