Cynopsis: Kids!

2/14/07

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, February 14, 2007 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.

Ofcom, the regulator for the UK’s media/communications industries, has begun its kid’s programming review, which will take place over the next several months resulting in a final published report to be released in summer 2007.  Ofcom will research and report on the current state of kid’s TV and other kid’s media in the UK, and the role of public service broadcasting (PSB) in providing content to kids and the extent to which existing TV public services broadcasters have as a group fulfilled the goals of PSB.  Additionally, Ofcom will look at maintaining and improving the quality of PSB content for kids in the future as well as assessing the quantity and quality and current availability of kid-targeted content on each of those services.  In November 2006 Ofcom reported the findings of its multi-year look at food advertising to kid TV viewers and out its support behind a ban of all advertising of junk food to kids under the age of 16 in the UK.

Crest Animation Studios, Ltd., is renaming and expanding the business of its CGI animation studio RichCreat Animation, which will now be known as Crest Animation Productions. Crest has appointed Noah Fogelson as CEO of Crest Animation Productions.  The production entity will now operate as a full service animation studio specializing in development/production of CGI animated properties.  Fogelson will head up the production arm’s growth leveraging a multi-million dollar investment from the D.E. Shaw group that will be used to develop and produce new intellectual properties for TV, the internet, feature films, home entertainment and so on.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

The brothers Wachowski will be filing their upcoming action movie Speed Racer, based on the 1960s anime, in Germany at Studio Babelsberg, per Hollywood Reporter.  The Wachowski’s shot their movie V For Vendetta at the German studio.  The Warner Bros. movie is currently in pre-production and slated to begin filming this May 2007.
