Cynopsis

08/22/07

Good Morning.  It’s Wednesday, August 22, 2007, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Tribune shareholders approved an $8.2 billion deal led by billionaire Sam Zell to take the company private. Despite concerns over taking on massive debt to finance the buyout, 97% of the shares voted approved the merger. The company is looking into selling the Chicago Cubs to help alleviate some of the debt but has said it plans to hold onto its current print and digital assets.

In other media financial news, ION Media Networks, Inc. completed a successful refinancing of its financial balance sheet which allows the company to pursue its long-term strategic growth plans. This recapitalization of its balance sheet is associated with ION’s May 3, 2007 agreement with an affiliate of Citadel Investment Group L.L.C. and NBC Universal, Inc.   Additionally ION has picked up two stations, station acquisition being a major directive for ION right now: WPXX/Memphis and WPXL/New Orleans, for $18 million for the pair from Flinn Broadcasting Group.

Tonight’s Premieres:
