Golf Channel is joining the TV Everywhere club, announcing that Golf Live Extra will begin streaming network content 24/7 starting today with coverage of tournaments, news, instruction and original programming. Cablevision’s Optimum TV, Comcast Xfinity TV, DISH, Mediacom, Suddenlink and Verizon FiOS will serve as the first providers to offer this new service to their customers with nearly all of the content available on an authenticated basis to subscribers of Golf Channel’s distribution partners’ services.

On the Air

SportsCenter anchor Lindsay Czarniak will reportedly be named host of ABC’s coverage of the Indianapolis 500, marking the time a woman has taken on the role. According to USA Today, Czarniak replaces Brent Musberger for the May 26 race. She will join a crew that includes play-by-play announcer Marty Reid and analysts Eddie Cheever and Scott Goodyear.

With ratings in the books, FOX UFC Saturday handed the network with a primetime win across key demographics last weekend, according to Nielsen Media Research. The seventh installment of the franchise posted a 2.2/4 average household rating/share, with 3.7 million viewers. Compared to last year’s comparable event on May 5, 2012, the broadcast was up 47%. Kansas City led all markets with a 4.6/8, followed by Portland, OR (3.8/9), Minneapolis (3.6/8), Fort Myers (3.4/6), Indianapolis (3.3/6) and Greensboro (3.3/5). Through two events this year, UFC on FOX is averaging a 2.3/4, with 4.0 million viewers, up 11% in average audience over the two-event average from 2012.

After months of intense speculation, university presidents have finally settled on a name for the upcoming college football playoff, dubbing the event College Football Playoff, according to multiple reports. The first title game of the College Football Playoff will be held on Jan. 12, 2015.

ESPN lined up a slate of Mountain West Conference college football games for ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU this season, which will include one Thursday and six Friday night games. The 2013 season marks the first year of a multi-year agreement between ESPN and the Mountain West for rights to select conference-controlled football and basketball games through the 2019-20 campaign. The action gets underway on Sept. 13 with Air Force/Boise St. at 8p on ESPN.

Wimbledon players will see a 40% bump in prize money starting this year. The AP reports that the singles champions at Wimbledon will each receive $2.4 million as part of the biggest total payout in tennis history. Prize money will total $34.4 million, up $9.9 million from last year.

AMA Pro Racing is heading to CBS Sports Network, inking a deal to showcase GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing as part of the Network’s CBS Sports Spectacular series. CBS Sports Network will air flag-to-flag race coverage of the premier National Guard SuperBike and GoPro Daytona SportBike classes through the 2014 season. Programming starts Saturday, June 1 at 2:30p before live coverage of the Subway SuperBike Doubleheader.

Citi and the United States Olympic Committee locked in a deal that keeps Citi as the official bank partner of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams through 2016. For its first-ever Team USA sponsorship in 2012, Citi announced a $500,000 donation to the USOC, above and beyond its sponsorship, to launch the Every Step of the Way program designed to benefit U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Sport Programs and support future hopefuls and athletes of all ages in communities across America.

Subway lined up NFL draft pick Jarvis Jones as the company’s newest Famous Fan. To initiate Jones into the family, the brand unveiled a life-size food statue of Jarvis made out of Smokehouse BBQ Chicken that traveled through NYC as Jarvis prepared for Thursday’s draft. Jarvis now joins RGIII and Justin Tuck under the Subway umbrella.

As part of an effort to keep fans coming to the stadium the NFL is revving up rewards for season-ticket holders, according to Ad Age, that will echo frequent-flier-style perks. As the league prepares its platinum-fan strategy, some teams have already introduced programs that include access to players and executives, private draft parties and deals with local businesses.

Drew Brees is the newest face of Wrangler, joining Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Brett Favre as an official endorser of the denim brand. He will be featured in the upcoming campaign slated to start in August.

Digital Fields

Bleacher Report announced coverage plans surrounding the 2013 NFL Draft that will start tomorrow with the site’s live video coverage the will include famed players Ray Rice and Steve Jackson along with Bleacher Report’s NFL Draft Lead Writer Matt Miller and Senior NFL Producer and Lead NFL Video Analyst Aaron Nagler. Coverage will be streamed live from Boomer Esiason’s Stadium Grill at Bowlmor Lanes Times Square in New York City.

Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated offers fans NFL Draft Live on SI.com that will feature writers such as Peter King, Don Banks and Andrew Perloff who will answer questions submitted via Twitter, on SI’s Facebook page and through Livefyre commenting on SI.com. The 30-minute show broadcasts from the Sports Illustrated video studio at 3p today as well as hours before the first pick on Thursday.

Swan Racing, working with Wheelhouse Media, is launching Swan Racing TV this week leading into the upcoming Toyota Owners 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race weekend at Richmond International Raceway. The content will live on YouTube and feature the cast and characters of Swan Racing in 32 weeks of three to six minute videos.

Yahoo! Sports reports that, as the draft gears up, searches relating to the event are up 13% on Yahoo! compared to 2012. Searches for the term “NFL Draft Projections” are up 127% in the past 7 days.

ESPN has its fifth ombudsman, naming award-winning writer and Emmy recipient Robert Lipsyte to the duty. Lipsyte begins his 18-month term in June, where he offer independent examination, critique and analysis of ESPN, and the role will include written pieces on ESPN.com, on-line chats and other multi-media interactions with fans.

InStadium named Pat Coyle as the company’s Senior Strategic Advisor – Fan Experience. Coyle formed his own consulting firm, Coyle Media in 2008 and has since counseled sports properties across the NFL, NBA, NHL, NASCAR, PGA TOUR, NCAA and more.
