Good morning. It’s Tuesday, October 24, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.

The Class began softly for CBS when it premiered on Monday nights at 8p in September, but after just a couple of weeks, the network moved it to 830p, using How I Met Your Mother as the lead-off show for the night.  That decision seems to have paid off, and now CBS has ordered 4 additional scripts of The Class.

* MORE GOOD STUFF *

 
Showtime Networks has scheduled all eight episodes of its upcoming miniseries Sleeper Cell: American Terror to air on the same day, December 10, on SHOWTIME On Demand. This move is to increase interest in the SHOWTIME network and drive subscriptions. The miniseries will also debut on the linear SHOWTIME network December 10 at 9p, and then all eight parts will air nightly through December 17.
 
Oxygen begins production this week on season two of The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency. The new season’s format changes from a half-hour to a full hour, and will focus more on the models and the success of the agency. A special holiday program will air in December, and new original episodes begin next January. The show is produced by Krasnow Productions.
 
DIY Network has found its new stud, as in the winner of its Stud Finder contest, that is. Gionni Thompson, a father of three and a science teacher in Aurora, CO, will host his own home improvement series next year. Look for him to appear on NBC’s Today Show and profiled in a one-hour special on DIY called DIY’s Stud Finder in early 2007.
 
BBC America will premiere its new thriller series Afterlife on November 30 at 9p. The premise surrounds a psychic medium that has a conflicted relationship with a doubting psychology professor, and are both confronted with life after death situations.
 
MSG, the sports and entertainment network, will debut its original documentary series The 50 Greatest Moments at Madison Square Garden on October 31 at 9p. Hosted by Matthew Modine, the ten one-hour episodes will recount the top 50 events and moments that happened at the historic New York arena, some of which include the famous Happy Birthday sung by Marilyn Monroe to President John F. Kennedy; the Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier 1971 match; and concerts by the Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra and more.
 
After the test run of the late night game show Midnight Money Madness, TBS has entered into development talks with Endemol USA for a new call-in TV show that will air in an earlier time period on the network. Endemol produced Midnight Money Madness which debuted August 28 airing Monday-Thursday and allowed viewers to call in, text message or go online to play for cash prizes.
 
MTV is bringing back its veteran reality series Road Rules scheduled to premiere in January. For this latest version, MTV is teaming with Bunim-Murray Productions to allow viewers to interact with the show to have a hand in determining the outcome of each episode and who is eliminated. The cast will still travel in an RV, yet this time six of the members will be from previous shows, and the new episodes will air within a week of the action happening on the road.

* BROADBAND & DIGITAL *

CBS will air a one-hour compilation special of INTURN, the online reality series where eight actors competed for a 13-week role on As The World Turns on November 24 at 1230p. The show will feature scenes from the various 24 episodes that originally aired on CBS.com’s innertube.

Fox has planned to give The O.C. viewers a sneak peak of the new season a week or so before the network series debut.  On October 26 at the Fox MySpace.com site and the Fox O&O station websites, users can see the premiere episode, before the Nov 2 network debut.  The second episode of the season will also be available online, again a week before it airs on Fox.

A new broadband TV channel, BlueHighways TV, is set to launch tomorrow worldwide. Focused on American culture and music, the channel has been built and powered by Narrowstep Inc., using its proprietary technology system, telvOS, to give viewers a more television-like and community-building broadband experience. The original content features programs about the roots of American music, including bluegrass, gospel and traditional country, in addition to shows about art festivals and celebrations. Consumer and money advisor, Clark Howard, is partnering with on-demand network Mag Rack in a new 20-part original series Get Clark Smart. The show begins this Thursday and will include segments on home and car buying, hotel and airfare deals, identity theft safeguards, to college savings and retirement. Howard is the host of the nationally syndicated WSB-AM radio show The Clark Howard Show and the author of several financial advice books. Mag Rack can be accessed at www.magrack.com.

* PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT *

Fox Reality network has a new original series in production called The Academy (wt) about the process of taking recruits and turning them into Deputy Sheriffs for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. The LASD has given the producers access to this branch of law enforcement that is rarely seen to follow the recruits as they go through an intense 18-week training course. The show begins production next Monday and is from Scott Sternberg Productions.

Jack Coleman has joined the cast of NBC’s series Heroes as a regular.  Coleman plays the father of the young cheerleader, Claire, who cannot be injured no matter what she or anyone else does to her.  Coleman’s character has become the series new villain, known also as H.R.G., the guy who kidnaps people and then runs experiments on them. Coleman will appear regularly as of the 11th episode.

Bravo has cast designer Todd Oldham as the host for its new interior design competition series Top Design. Production begins this month in Los Angeles for the ten-episode series that is set to debut in first quarter 2006. In addition, Jonathan Adler has been selected as lead judge, along with Margaret Russell, Editor In Chief of Elle Décor Magazine, and interior designer Kelly Wearstler. Top Design is produced by Stone & Company Entertainment.
 
Lifetime’s pilot project Side Order of Life, has added three to the cast – Jason Priestly, Christopher Gartin and Diana-Maria Riva, says Hollywood Reporter.  The story is about a magazine publisher who reexamines here life after after a dear friend is diagnosed with cancer.

The America Show is half-hour show is in development designed for primetime, and aimed at women.  New York based producers Knockout Films describe it as “a girls’ Daily Show” with a political bent.  It will contain some sketch comedy and roving reporter segments among other features.  The producers are currently pitching production companies.

The CW has ordered a script of a new project called Thirteen Songs about a young female teen rock group who is actively pursuing their music career and managing their personal lives at the same time.  Produced by Jonathan Prince in association with Interscope Records, and CBS Paramount Network TV, the show plans to find a real teen female group to do all the music in the project, says Variety.

* EXECUTIVE MOVES *

Pete Jacobs has been upped to Director/Video Game Marketing for Spike TV. Reporting to Dario Spina and based at the network’s satellite office in San Francisco, Pete will manage the viral and marketing strategies for the Video Game Awards 2006 event and other video game content for the network.
 
Pier 3 Entertainment, the product placement and integration agency, has several executive position moves: Tom Loversky, a founder and silent partner of the company, has returned as President; Jason Schomas was hired as Director/Television; Zac Hyman tapped as Director/Sales, West Coast; Chris “Tipper” Reiken was named Director/Feature Films; and Kelly Miller appointed as Director/Sales and Creative Marketing, East Coast.
 
Kimberly Senn
is the new VP/Product Development for Airborne Entertainment, a subsidiary of CYBIRD Co., Ltd. In her new position, Kimberly will supervise the internal development of current and new product lines and be a key member of the management team.
 
Lynn Brindell has been appointed SVP/Marketing for The Weather Channel, reporting to Wonya Lucas, GM/EVP, The Weather Channel Networks. Lynn will supervise and lead all marketing efforts for the network.
 

* RATINGS *

Sunday – A18-49 Analysis:  FOX slid into first place Sunday night with a 5.4/14 A18-49, according to fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen Media Research. ABC came in second at 5.2/13, followed by CBS 3.7/9. FOX was #1 at 7p with a combo of its NFL Overrun telecast and the World Series Pre-Game at 5.4/16. FOX led at 8p with the first hour of the World Series contest at 5.4/13, while a repeat of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition came in second at 4.9/12. ABC, strong at 9p, won with Desperate Housewives at 8.0/18, several rating points in front of the World Series on FOX, which came next at 5.7/13. Then at 10p, FOX’s Game #2 just edged out the competition at 5.1/13, with ABC’s Brothers & Sisters #2 with  a 5.0/12.
