CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Cynopsis
05/02/06
Good Morning. It’s Tuesday, May 2, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing, and welcome to the first day of the May Sweeps.
‘Tis that time of year when the networks come from on high and anoint another show as good enough for another season. Yesterday it was NBC and Las Vegas, Medium and Crossing Jordan, and before than the three Law & Order series. Last month Fox picked up more 24 and Bones among others, and CBS gave a shot in the arm to several include the CSI group, Cold Case and Ghost Whisperer. Well, today, it’s ABC who has given the new season order to Boston Legal, from David E. Kelley and 20th.
Tonight’s Season Finales:
Bravo: Blow Out at 9p and Real Housewives of Orange County at 10p
USA: Nashville Star at 10p
FX: Thief at 1030p
E! Networks will add three new original series to their 2006-07 schedule:
- The Carters – premieres Fall 2006, follows the real-life drama of Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, his younger brother and pop star, Aaron, and their three sisters as they live together and plan their futures.
- 7 Deadly Hollywood Sins – premieres June 5, each of the seven half-hour episodes will put a spotlight on one of the seven deadly sins in life: anger, pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony and sloth, from a Tinseltown point of view with examples of Hollywood’s hottest sinners.
- Sexiest – putting the focus on Hollywood’s stars with the sexiest attitudes, from rock stars to athletes, in a countdown with the 25 most alluring stars in a variety of categories.
- Returning series on E! this summer includes The Simple Life: ‘Till Death Do Us Part on June 4; The Girls Next Door; Child Star Confidential; and returning this fall new eps of Dr. 90210.
Bravo‘s latest competition series Top Chef has taken orders for a second season of 10 episodes, and has expanded this season’s finale to two hours (scheduled to air on May 17 and 24). Top Chef is produced by the same folks who bring Project Runway to Bravo, Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz of Magical Elves.
Can’t get enough Couric? As of yesterday, the first hour of NBC’s Today show is available each day in streaming format at 11am ET on the MSNBC.com website. The site will also archive each of the daily hours for one week, in case you miss one.
AmericanLife TV Network SM premieres a new 30-minute series, Moments That Changed Us, on May 7 at 8p. Hosted by journalist Nick Clooney the show focuses on events and people that changed America forever. The first episode is a conversation with Walter Cronkite about how the American perception of the Vietnam War changed over time.
That crazy magician David Blaine is at it again. This time he’s working on a special that will air on ABC on May 8 called David Blaine: Drowned Alive. Yesterday at NYC’s Lincoln Center Blaine entered into a 8-foot water-filled sphere where he’ll spend the next week with just an air tube in his mouth. And if that’s not enough, in the final moments before he comes out of the water ball, he’ll attempt to hold his breath longer than the current 8-minute/58-second record, while at the same time attempting to escape from 150 pounds of chains and handcuffs.
According to papers files with the SEC, Paxson’s i network has signed an affiliation deal with DirecTV for carriage through 2011. BBC America will premiere new episodes of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, starring Michelin-starred chef Gordon Ramsay, on May 31 at 9p. The new season shows Gordon taking on eight new establishments to turn their business around with his cruel-to-be-kind style.
InterMedia Partners VII, L.P. has made an equity investment in The Sportsman Channel. C. Michael Cooley, the channel’s founder remains in place as President/CEO and Todd D. Hansen, one of the original investors continues as SVP.
The best laid plans ….. rarely pan out the way you’d hope. And yesterday was no exception. May 1st we re-launched the Cynopsis website with high expectations of being able to use the new server to send you this daily edition. Well, the website works (albeit under the IP number only at this point – 72.3.240.239) but emailing this to you via that new site wasn’t in the least bit successful. After some finagling and switching back to the old site and server, you finally received yesterday’s edition a few hours later than the usual early morning delivery. So here’s where we’re at — if you go to cynopsis.com, you’ll end up at the old no-frills site. If you key in the IP address (or just click here http://72.3.240.239) you’ll be at the new site where you can see the daily video (streaming, no download necessary), hear any of the three daily edition’s podcasts, look thru the still limited archive (we in the process of populating), check out our media kits, etc. As you might imagine, we’re madly working on the email capabilities of the new site and once that is truly working, I’ll notify the media! Thanks for your patience and let us know what you think of the new site.
