Good morning. It’s Tuesday, July 31, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.
Australia’s Film Finance Corporation has approved financing for a range of TV and movie productions include several kid/teen-targeted TV series:
- Elephant Princess (26×30) is a new series from Jonathan M Shiff Productions. Elephant Princess revolves around Phoebe, who discovers she is not the average kid she thought; rather she is the Princess of a mystical kingdom. Her unusual visitor Kuru and a magical elephant must help her master her new powers, and fast. The series is produced by Shiff Productions with Network Ten (Australia), Disney Channel and ZDF Enterprises.
- K9 (26×30) is set in space and features Doctor Who’s robotic dog K9. In the show, K9 must guard an abandoned prison transportation craft. Produced by Stewart & Wall Entertainment Pty Ltd, with sales and distribution partners Network Ten (Australia), Jetix and Park Entertainment.
- Series three of the teen drama, Blue Water High (26×30). Produced by Northside Productions Pty Ltd, the series follows six top Australian teen surfers, who have been selected to live at an elite training facility, where they compete for entry to the Pro Surfing Circuit, only one boy and one girl to be selected. Sales and distribution partners include Australia’s ABC TV, Nickelodeon and Southern Star, and AB Droits (France) and Cattleya (Italy).
Galleon Entertainment has given the go ahead for its first TV season of its new animated comedy/action series Apollo’s Pad (26×5). Targeted to Teens/young adults 16-24, the short-form program is produced in association with Sony BMG. The series takes classic music tracks and adds humor and gag-based comedy followed by an animated music video. Music producer, Brian Rawlings, of the UK’s Metrophonic Studios, produced the classic hits “redone” videos. The series will be available for TV, online, and mobile as well as being on apollospad.com from October. The production will include Galleon, Canada-based Copernicus Studio, and Metrophonic Studios.
MORE KIDS STUFF
Britain will get its very own and very first Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards UK, which will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2007 live at ExCel London. The first Kids’ Choice Awards UK scream-fest will be hosted by McFly, the British pop/rock band, and like the US Kids Choice Awards kids will get a chance to vote for their favorites in a number of categories ( http://kca.nick.co.uk/ ) now through September 30, and can expect to see a famous guest get the green slime treatment. The awards show will premiere on Nickelodeon with an exclusive special version of the show, including behind the scenes content, is set to air on MTV Hits and TMF, both part of MTV Networks UK & Ireland. Categories and nominees for the 1st Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards UK include bests in:

MARKETING/LICENSING
LucasArts and TT Games announced that LEGO Indiana Jones: The Videogame (working title) will be available from summer 2008. The new game is in development at Traveller’s Tales, the same folks that created the LEGO Star Wars series. Targeted to both kids and parents, LEGO Indiana Jones offers a humorous take the first three Indiana Jones movies. LEGO Group will begin rolling out LEGO Indiana Jones playsets from January 2008. Currently in production, Paramount has scheduled the release of the fourth Indiana Jones movie for May 22, 2008.
Wham-O, Inc. has entered into a multi-year deal with FOG Studios to exclusively represent the worldwide interactive licensing rights to all Wham-O proprieties. FOG Studios will showcase Wham-O licensing opportunities next month at the Leipzig Games Convention, as well as in September at the Austin Game Developer’s Conference and the Tokyo Game Show. Consumers can expect to see Nintendo Wii adaptations of Wham-O’s products such as Frisbee, Slip ‘N Slide, Hula Hoop and Hack Sack among others, as well as games for Nintendo’s upcoming Balance Board.
Jetix Europe has teamed with Live Nation, a live event company, for the 2008 Monster Jam European Tour that will make its way to six cities in five different countries. From August 2007 a marketing campaign will launch across all Jetix Europe’s channels, websites and magazines, and a Jetix branded truck will compete magazine other monster trucks in the events. Jetix Europe will be featured on all Monster Jam marketing and advertising material, as well as on-site exposure with banners, commercials and a Jetix dedicated promotion zone. The Monster Jam tour is part of a wider Pan-European marketing campaign for the Yin Yang Yo! animated series. The characters Yin and Yang, from Yin Yang Yo, will be featured on-air in one-minute interstitials where they will offer commentary over Monster Jam footage beginning next month. Additionally, Jetix Europe will introduce an online and on-air contest this August, as well as launching a microsite.
This week marks Namco Networks’ release of the mobile game Snoopy the Flying Ace. While attempting to save Woodstock’s fallen nest, gamers will guide Snoopy through aerial adventures and steer him clear of the evils of the sky, including storm clouds and of course the Red Baron. Players win points that can be used to unlock features and obtain downloads of Peanuts comic strips. Snoopy the Flying Ace is the first mobile game released under Namco Networks’ partnership with United Media. ( http://www.namcogames.com/snoopy )
EXECUTIVE MOVES
Michael Peikoff has been upped to SVP/Licensing and Merchandising, Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising. He will report to EVP/Licensing and Merchandising, Elie Dekel. Peikoff, who had been VP/Licensing, role has been expanded to include management of all internal and external communications for the Licensing Division as well as overseeing the retail marketing and licensed promotions initiatives for the company in the US. Jeff Shapiro, VP/Retail Marketing and Howard Nelson, VP/Worldwide Promotion will report directly to Peikoff. A 20-year industry veteran, Peikoff joined Fox Licensing & Merchandising in 2005. Previously he served in executive marketing roles at Sony Pictures Consumer Products, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, and he was part of the marketing team that helped to launch Fox Broadcasting.

- Antonious Porch moves up to SVP/Business and Legal Affairs/Digital Media Group. Porch will oversee all business/legal affairs related to content creation and distribution across digital media platforms including TV, online, wireless, video and games, as well as publishing/distribution deals and talent agreements for digital media. He will continue reporting to Andra Shapiro, EVP/Business Affairs and MTVN Co-General Counsel. Since joining the company, Porch has served as Sr. Counsel and VP. He managed Nickelodeon’s acquisition of GoCityKids.
- Stuart Rosenstein has been upped to SVP/Resorts and Theatricals, Nickelodeon Recreation. He will continue to report to Howard Smith SVP/Nickelodeon Recreation. Rosenstein, who has been with Nick for 17 years, will oversee licensing operations of Nickelodeon’s hotel business and will work with Marriott International and Miller Global Properties to create 20 new Nickelodeon Resorts by Marriott. He will also continue to manage and lead the company’s live theatrical business, overseeing show development, production, marketing, franchise support, sponsorship integration, affiliate promotion, merchandise development and finances for all live theatrical productions, both domestic and international, as well as heading live events, costume character Program and theatrical licensing business.
